Marvel: I Wish To Be One Above All

Chapter 6 - A Glimpse of Power...

"You know, I'm getting a little tired of blinking and finding myself in a different place. It's seriously the third time this has happened in my life. And the funny thing, is that it's all but guaranteed that this won't be the last time." Corvus said to no one in particular. However, he knew Unova could hear him. However, if she was listening, she didn't deign to show him a sign of it. If she was though, he imagined that she'd be chuckling to herself with a smirk and confirming that it most definitely would not be the last time.

Shaking his head of these thoughts he blinked into the glare of the morning sun. As his eyes adjusted he couldn't help but think, 'I'm what anyone would consider to be an almighty being, albeit a still developing one, and yet my irises are unable to filter out and focus ultraviolet light at a better rate than regular humans. Or is this just another change that came with being inside one of 'mother's' universes.' As soon as the word crossed his mind, he shuddered. He definitely preferred her female form over her Jack Kirby form, but it would take time to get used to the concept of a gender fluid entity, which he apparently now was as well.

As his eyes adjusted, the first thing that entered his vision was green. Verdant rolling hills of a deep green plant life with waves forming in the grass due to the swift crisp wind, the sunlight evaporated the morning dew and formed a light mist over the top giving the world a bit of an ethereal feel. Corvus smiled and felt refreshed looking at the pleasant scenery. The cool morning wind brushed over him and helped to clear his mind.

'Wow, this… this is something. I'm sure I'm going to have something ruin this day later with the way she sent me off. But this moment, right here? I can only say thank you for letting this be the first thing I see.'

What Corvus didn't realize, was that impactful moments like this that resonated with his entire being, did exactly that in the literal sense. The reactions were mixed as the image and the feelings involved with the scenery bubbled up from within the Primordials. However, each of them could sense their dominion at work in the scenery.

It provided them with a concrete example of how Eternity, Infinity, Chaos, Order, Life, and Death all together could create something wonderful. As they pondered this thought, they each regarded each other's presence before dismissing it for now.

The quickest to return to creating their yet unfinished domain was Siwang as she felt her power in that scene the least. The second was Baihu, who felt that the scene could use an explosion or two. The third was Archon, who felt it didn't really matter to him anyway. He just filed it away as something that was possible when balance was achieved. Xuanyuan made a note to look forward to the point in time when such scenery was achieved by them and then returned to his work in order to bring about the eventuality sooner. Qinglong, Zhuque, and Nuwa all basked in the feelings of the memory for a bit longer before going back to work, all three taking away something different from the experience.

Corvus allowed himself a moment of emptiness until the mist settled and disappeared before he started moving. As he did his attire came to his attention. It looked like a rough-spun linen grey robe. It had several layers underneath covering him from shoulders down. Behind his neck he felt a bit of extra fabric that could be used as a hood, probably for rain. On his feet were soft leather sandals with a hard leather sole. Overall it was quite comfortable, but it reminded him of something. They were reminiscent of monk robes from Asia, he couldn't place the exact region. They were easy to move in, but protective enough from the elements.

'Interesting choice but not altogether inappropriate. Would really stand out in the city though. Maybe I'm supposed to live like a hermit for now? It's not as if I'd lose any time or anything. I don't eat or sleep, I'm basically invulnerable, so I suppose it really doesn't matter where I go.

Then again, it would be nice to have some company and meet someone new. So I could look for sapient life. This environment has the perfect conditions for supporting intelligent life, so there's bound to be some. But on the flip side, if I shook someone's hand without knowing the proper force... eesh. Hermit life it is then. at least until I can figure out just what all I'm capable of and how to control it. Besides, I bring my company with me.' Corvus smiles at the thought of seeing his Primordials again so soon after their last meeting.

"Okay, first things first. My powers outside worked how and when I intended them to work. So, could it be that easy here?" He imagined holding a pipe and tobacco, because for some reason these hills reminded him of the shire and hobbits. And what hobbits loved to do between meals was smoke. He felt a kind of power emanate from himself as he directed his will and imagination. As this happened Corvus' eyes emitted black and white cosmic power and he felt his connections to his Primordials grow. In his hand appeared a long stem clay pipe with a smoldering heap of tobacco within it, already lit. So, to test it, in the name of science of course, he took a drag, held the smoke within his mouth, and slowly exhaled. The taste of the tobacco lingered for a good while before being expelled from him.

"Oh man, I didn't realize how much I missed that."

He hadn't smoked since his last deployment. He had quit thinking that his girlfriend at the time wouldn't want him smoking when he came home. When he found out that she had left him, the fact that he was still cold turkey slipped his mind. He had more important things to think about, anyway. By the time he had been able to slow down and notice the fact that he lost his reason to quit, he had long since lost any cravings for it anyway.

However, now that he was immortal and didn't even really have organs that he could pollute. Well, he figured why the hell shouldn't he pick it up again? It's not like it'll kill him. Cancer? What's that? Is it tasty?

Still, there were downsides, a lack of an organic brain also meant he couldn't get a nicotine high, or any kind of high for that matter. However, just the act helped to relax him.

"Summon temporary constructs by bending reality, check. Wonder how far it can go."

Now he tried to will something ridiculous, like the grass turning blue, the air smelling like chocolate, and a talking floating recliner appearing before him. And as he focused he felt a small tug in his gut, and only felt slightly fatigued.

With him as the focal point the grass started to change color and kept doing so up until a half kilometer radius, at which point it stopped and he was bombarded with the taste of chocolate every time the wind blew. 'No way...' he thought as he turned around to see a La-Z-Boy floating there. It's cushions moved as it spoke... "Oi, ah you the topsy what made me?"

"Holy shit!" Corvus waved his hand and willed all to return to how it was. The grass turned green, the wind smelled of nature, and the talking furniture disappeared.

Suddenly, a note appeared out of thin air and floated in front of Corvus' face. On it was written, "I don't get why you're so surprised. This is a serious step down from what you are capable of within your own multiverse. Has it not yet settled in that you can do literally anything you want there? And yet here, where you aren't capable of wielding even a micro fraction of your real power, you get surprised from animated furniture? Well, then I hope you can get used to surprises, because the rest of your abilities are about the same. - Unova"

Starting to get a little annoyed at his supposed parent, he growled at the air and said, "Well I'm sorry if I'm only now really realizing all of this, thank you very much. I had only conducted a few experiments myself and even the fact that I created living breathing GODS is still throwing me for a loop. I wouldn't have even known I could do that if you weren't there to direct me. You speak as if I'm supposed to already be used to the fact that I'm all powerful but I hadn't even used my strength to its fullest capacity yet even out there. So I'd appreciate a bit of patience, sorry for being such a disappointment." He tore the paper to pieces and ignited it as his eyes glowed red.

After a few deep breaths, Corvus calmed himself and continued with his experiments. Now that he has confirmed that he's able to control his powers through his intent like always, he decided to run through the list of what he was told earlier regarding what he'd be able to do. There weren't any people around so he couldn't check aura viewing, death prediction, or telepathy. 'Or… can I? There should be wild life. Maybe animals have auras as well?'

So he decided to reach out with his spatial awareness to find a few animals. He found a few, easily, they were a few hundred meters away. But he found them in an instant, and it called to question just how effective his ability with space was. So he continued to reach further around him. He soon found that his spatial awareness dwarfed his other abilities by an order of magnitude, at least from his perspective. Due to this, very quickly, he was extremely aware of where he was. "This… this is Earth. And… I'm in England? There's North America… South America… Antarctica… Japan… I can sense the entire globe?"

His hands were shaking as he made this realization, and even more shaken when he realized that this wasn't the limit. He was a little hesitant but ultimately he reached further.

… {short period of silence or duration of time}

"Oh COME ON! The moon? I can teleport to the moon!? … No! No, don't send me a note. I get it. Compared to teleporting between realities from one end of the multiverse to the other with a thought and pinpoint accuracy this is what you would consider 'short range teleportation.' However, from my perspective, as a person who used to consider teleportation flat out impossible and something only found in works of fiction, even if I could teleport within just LINE-OF-SIGHT I would be floored and excited. And DON'T mention my own multiverse. It's OBVIOUS when you think about it that within my own body I'd be able to go anywhere at any time. This is your body, and I'm able to teleport through it, I'm sure you don't consider that crazy, but it feels crazy to me!"

Panting, he sat on the ground. Flipping his hand he held another pipe, the other got forcefully deconstructed after the chair talked, and took a looong drag. After calming down significantly. Another note popped up. "You done? – Unova"

Corvus rolled his eyes, ground his teeth, and then let out an exasperated sigh. "Yes… I'm done… Sorry. I'll try to take this stuff in stride from now on." Taking another few drags, he moved on. As he dropped the pipe it dematerialized into nothing once again. The cool wind against his face calmed him down once again and he felt he could focus.

Determined not to be surprised anymore at what he's capable of. As he stood up, he noticed a fly buzzing around. Deciding it's an opportunity, his eyes flashed purple as the fly suddenly stopped midair. Well, stopped is inaccurate, as when he concentrated, he could see the fly's wings ever so slowly moving down from the up position they started in. 'Ok, that's pretty much within my expectations. I'm not going to test the reversal, or speeding up time. I'm sure they're rather ridiculous. However, I do need to test the speeding up of time later. I think I can use it to spend more time with the Primordials.'

Another deep breath later, Corvus realized more and more that this is much easier than powers were ever supposed to be. How much work had people put in to master their own powers across not only the Marvel multiverse but the DC multiverse as well. Yet, by the simple nature of what kind of being he is, he has a massive headstart on everyone regarding development, with no visible peak in sight. It's like he's Goku from the end of the Dragon Ball series and never had to go through the grueling training to get there. The possibilities were probably completely limitless.

As his thoughts wandered in this direction. It felt as if he was on the cusp of something, something grand, but it slipped away as he heard a voice behind him, accompanied by the sound of horse hooves and metal clanking together. 'A person! I can try the other powers now.'

He turned and almost stumbled when what could only be described as a knight on horseback came into view. Glittering plate mail, a cape and a cloth covering the c.h.e.s.t with a coat of arms stitched in. Hands gripping the reins and a sword at his waist, the man was, in every definition, a knight. The horse was tall, c.h.e.s.tnut brown, and had a bit of armor itself. A horse that was unmistakably bred for war.

'Cool... ah, I should try these powers now. What was it again? Aura vision, death intuition, and telepathy, ah and strength... strength can wait, unless the knight has bad intentions.' Corvus thought and then directed his concentration to his eyes and to reaching out to the knight's mind. All of a sudden, color surrounded the knight and thoughts started to sound out in Corvus' mind that were not his own. The colors were a mixture of several different ones. Shades of purple, mostly lavender, grey, a lime green and forest green colors emanated from the man. The colors translated themselves as he processed them. The knight was feeling contempt, overall negativity towards the person in his sight, apprehension, and envy. His thoughts started to become clear as well.

'Just as the damned court wizard said... someone in the same vestments as he indeed appeared on mine patrol route. What makes this knave so special, another 'fated apprentice' for him, I suppose. As if that damned Celtic witch child wasn't enough. If offending the arcane bastard wasn't a sure ticket to death I wouldn't even bother.' Thought the knight and as his thoughts started to take a darker turn Corvus decided to cut the connection.

'A wizard? What time period am I even in? Obviously medieval, but I wonder what century. Fated apprentice? As if. The fact that he knew I'd arrive is interesting though.'

Corvus had his hand on his chin and looked at the knight with an amused expression as he approached. This gave the knight an even worse impression of the supposed peasant in the distance. As he got closer and saw just how wide and tall the man was though, a bit of fear mixed in his countenance. The fact that he didn't seem intimidated by the royal coat of arms nor his station made his apprehension grow. However, in the end, he dismissed it as the willful ignorance of the lower masses and the arrogance of a man who doesn't know his place. The knight stopped in front of the man. From horseback, he began to speak, his voice gruff and in forced politeness yet dripping with contempt.

"Ho there, honored guest. Wilt thou come with my humble self. Our esteemed court wizard has foreseen thy arrival and doth wish for a meeting. As a decorated knight of this fair kingdom, it would be mine honor to escort thee hence."

As he spoke, a separate color filled the left side of Corvus' vision, but it was fleeting, like mist, no, more like it was trying to be concealed. Lavender, contempt, not directed at Corvus, but the knight, and a bright yellowy-orange, amus.e.m.e.nt. As he turned to face the empty space that held those colors, Corvus could see the colors change to that of shaky green and indigo, followed quickly by a deep red orange which was maintained. A flash of terror, amazement, and then extreme vigilance, he processed.

His attention was brought back to the knight. His lack of response and outright dismissal of the knight's words seemed to upset him further. The lavender of his contempt starting to turn to a shade of scarlet rage. The grey color of negativity turning darker in shade, killing intent started to permeate the air. To a person of Corvus' strength, it was negligible. Thus, even though it was the first time he felt killing intent, he couldn't bring himself to be afraid. It seemed as though the knight still had some sense of propriety though, as he forced himself to swallow his anger and coughed into his armored hand.

"Excuse me, sir. I don't believe thee had heard mine words. I would like to escort thee to the court wizard's office in the castle."

A fun idea started to form in Corvus' mind. "No, sir knight. Mine ears work remarkably well, actually. I had just elected to ignore thy words in favor of a slight distraction in the breeze. Even were it not the case that such a breeze was more important than thou, why must I be escorted by a mediocre person who can't even properly contain his contempt and killing intent long enough to properly entertain a guest of his betters?"

The whispy colors in the air to the left, still maintained the orange of vigilance, but a bright yellow and marigold couldn't help but creep inside it. Amus.e.m.e.nt and satisfaction. A glance and a smile from Corvus was enough to bring back the vigilance, but a lighter shade of orange, curiosity, started to overtake it.

The scarlet rage dominated the knight's other feelings. However, still having a bit of decorum left the knight bit out "Knave, thee dare impugn mine honor and station?"

"Honor? Station? Dost thou have such things? If these things are indeed thine, then I do impugn upon them For it seems to not be worth the shite that comes from the a.s.s thee call a steed." He chuckled and started to walk away. "If thy waste thou call words continue to pollute the air I would very much rather not bother with thee. Begone, if such an 'esteemed' individual wishes to meet with me, he should send someone of actual worth to relay the message." As he walked away, he spread his awareness through a thirty meter radius. He could feel the knight shake.

As he almost got to the crest of a hill, the knight spurred his horse on. 'Here he comes.'

The knight wasn't thinking clearly, obviously, but in this age of honor and prestige there was no way he could let such words lay. So he decided to strike the rudest man he'd ever met down, wizard be damned. The powerful muscles of the horse churned beneath his saddle and brought him forward. He unsheathed his blade. The sound of which he knew would carry, in addition to the hooves beating the ground. As he expected, his target turned back to face him at the noise. He expected to see panic and anger. What he saw was neither, just calm indifference. This set off a few alarms in his mind, but he grit his teeth, gripped his blade, and began to swing as he passed. He expected the feeling of steel cutting flesh and possibly getting stuck in bone, but felt nothing but air. Then a rush of air, the scenery blurring together, a sharp pain racked through his head and lost consciousness.

'That was too close...' Jon said. He had intended to duck under the blade, then slap the horse on the rear in a taunting manner. The dodging went fine... but the slap was where it went wrong. The force of his light slap propelled the horse through the air, they almost hit a tree. Thankfully though, he had the presence of mind to teleport to the knight and grabbed him before impact. The horse, unfortunately, didn't make it and its mangled meat was wrapped around the tree. The grab forced the knight unconscious due to sudden deceleration. Physics didn't seem to apply in Corvus' hands, since at that speed, suddenly stopping should have killed the knight. Perhaps because he didn't want the knight to die, he simply didn't. His body isn't meant to stop functioning until he's fifty six anyway. Intention makes his powers work, after all. However, he didn't notice any of this. As he was more concerned with the fear and vigilance radiating from his front, with a bit of hatred and killing intent peppered in. To avoid any unpleasantness, Corvus decided to be the first to speak, while looking at the aura directly.

"I didn't mean for that to happen. Honestly. I didn't measure my strength properly." He sighed, "I'm going to put him down and move away from him now, and I'll keep my hands in view. Alright?" He didn't wait for the aura to change and laid the armored knight down slowly. After which, he raised his arms, placed his hands above his head, stood up, and backed away.

Once he was an adequate distance, the aura lost its killing intent, the fear went away slightly as well but the vigilance was still there. In an attempt to calm whoever it was down, Corvus added, "Though I'm sure thou would have rather I saved the horse. Quite frankly, I would have as well." Slight amus.e.m.e.nt was shown but the caution was not dropped.

Silence reigned, and as the minutes went by the caution devolved again into curiosity. Seeing this, Corvus relaxed and sat on the ground. He flipped his hand and his pipe appeared. He took a drag and begun to speak once again.

"If I had to guess, you're currently in the mirror dimension." Shock was shown, but he pointed the neck of his pipe at the muted aura and continued, "Ah, so I was correct. Then thou art either the sorcerer supreme or an apprentice of his. Mine own guess is that thou art his apprentice, but not just any. If he truly predicted mine arrival than he wouldn't trust my escort to just any hackneyed master of the mystical arts. But he also wouldn't tell thee what I am, if he even knows, he would just tell thee to be careful, so I must be just an enigma to thee as thee are to me. Judging by the reaction to mine strength, the killing intent and instant of hatred, I believe thou had been enemies to similarly mighty beings, Asgardians perhaps." More surprise. To which Corvus nodded, "Which would mean that the Norse Vikings have already invaded these lands once before. They were then repelled by probably thyself, the sorcerer supreme, and the king of knights." Confusion and fear began to permeate the surroundings. "I apologize, I don't mean to confuse thee or mean to cause alarm. I'm trying to make sense of where and when I am, and if thou won't come out and speak I have to make conjectures of mine own. Even if they are wild assumptions.

To continue, that would put me in the eighth or ninth century anno domini. As the Vikings invaded... in the seven... nineties? However, that clashes with what I know of Arthur. The Arthur a good friend of mine made me painfully familiar with fought the Saxons in the late fifth or early sixth century if true. Regardless, if that coat of arms is legitimate, then Camelot still stands, Arthur or his heirs reign, the current sorcerer supreme is Agamotto's heir apparent, Merlin. Which would make thee... the Celtic 'witch' child that the knight was thinking so rudely of."

The feelings permeating the air were mixed. Surprise, satisfaction, and curiosity we're slowly prevailing over caution and vigilance. Suddenly, the air shimmered, and a woman appeared. She had a fierce yet gentle look, long strawberry blonde hair swept back and braided intricately. Light green round eyes. Very fair pale skin, mostly covered by the same robes he was wearing. Except with more color. Corvus believed her to be a rather beautiful woman but what stunned him wasn't this. But rather her face. That face, he'd know that face anywhere.

'Well, what do you know. The Ancient One. Wonder why she ever shaved her head?'

He knew what universe he was in. He was in the MCU, but over a millennium early.
