CHAPTER 29

His Hugs

An Chuxia looks at Han Qilu. It may just be her hallucination but he truly looks godly compared to the other boys.

Eyes barely open, lips slightly parted, she slowly slurs, “I just don’t want to be seen as a lightweight. It’s nothing but a dozen laps… I’m not too weak to finish a few laps!”

Everything around her gradually sounds louder and louder, and after that, she pants. Her thin body almost collapses to the ground. Qilu gets to her in time to hold on to her shoulder. This time, she does not refuse. She lays in his arms, panting.

Has she gone for so long that she has no strength left? However, relying on her senses is beyond her will.

Han Qilu purses his lips tightly. The sun pours on them, so the people can not see his current expression.

“Are you a fool?” Suddenly the sound his voice makes An Chuxia stiffen. She wakes up from her stupor and pushes Han Qilu away. The inertia forces her feet to come to a stop.

“I’m sorry.” She nods slightly and says to him, “Please tell ayi I will not go back for lunch today.”

Han Qilu smiles, although his smile does not reach his eyes as he instinctively carries his feet toward her. He suddenly stretches out a hand as An Chuxia instinctively closes her eyes.

Yes, she thought he was going to hit her.

She anticipated a slap in the face. Instead, she is caught by surprise when he turns her over. She quickly opens her eyes to find herself scooped off her feet by Han Qilu.

“You… what are you doing?” She unexpectedly wants to break free. They are so close, people can misunderstand his intent.

It is made evident, when she sat in the car that morning, Han Qilu holds a high standard amongst the female population in Stein College. She isn’t anywhere in the designated status Mo Xinwei belongs to. Her current predicament leaves her wondering what status she’d be occupying after this drama ends.

“Do not move.” Han Qilu looks at her. “I am sorry. I can’t say to my mother you’re not going back. She will be constantly nagging me if I don’t get you home, dead or otherwise.”

Then…

And then he actually takes her spot as he finishes running the lap!

Is he crazy? An Chuxia is surprised beyond words.

“What is Han Qilu doing?” Ling Hanyu unknowingly looks at Xiao Mingluo. Mingluo shakes his head, but a few seconds later, nods, and then shakes his head again.

“What does your head shaking even mean?” Ling Hanyu eyes him.

Xiao Mingluo places the basketball over his shoulders, seemingly casually. “I probably understand why Qilu is carrying An Chuxia while he runs, but that’s not the point. The point is… a few people will be living very uncomfortably the next few days.”

A short time later, Han Qilu jogs to Mingluo’s side, still carrying An Chuxia in his arms.

His gaze falls on An Chuxia’s closed eyes; her face, red like a ripe apple. She finally succumbed to her fatigue and fell asleep in Han Qilu’s arms as he ran carrying her.
