Chapter 6: Baby Please Come Home – Part 1

Suzutsuki had changed from her maid outfit to casual clothes. As usual the big ribbon in her hair and the expensive long skirt stood out.

For some reason she had been against changing at first…

“There’s no way I can let you go out wearing an apron dress, right?”

“But wouldn’t it be a whole new experience going out in a maid outfit?”

“Stop that. If someone saw us, that would cause all kinds of misunderstandings!”

A single boy walking with a maid after nightfall would have to be a complete pervert. It wouldn’t be strange if someone called the police.

“Why are you so scared? If someone saw us you could just tell them the truth.”

“The truth?”

“Like, ‘What’s the problem, I am only dressing my dog(1) and going for a walk!’ right?”

“They’d think I’m a pervert! A complete pervert!”

“By the way, I would scream ‘Please help me, he said that if I don’t cooperate he would kill my family!’”

“You traitor! You only want to save yourself!”

“It’s like having your hand bitten by your own dog, right?”

“I just want to tell you that’s not really nice!”

Suzutsuki took a playful bite in my ear.

“Don’t bite me for real!”

I was already breathing heavily. To think that my body couldn’t take even this level of banter. Even my feet were feeling lazy. I felt like I could barely walk.

“Now, tell me, where are we going?”

Ahead of us was a street that didn’t have many street lights. It was the causeway by our town’s riverbank.

Suzutsuki and I were walking on the asphalt path. If we were going to see Konoe’s old man Suzutsuki’s mansion was in the opposite direction. And more than that, the causeway was cramped between the river and the street, and the car noise made the conversation difficult.

“You will understand soon. You are sure you weren’t found out by Subaru, right?”

“Don’t worry, I made my way out by my room’s window. She won’t notice it soon.”

It had been a long time since I last jumped from my window. I had tried to land in a cool way, but I slipped up – as expected since my body wasn’t in its normal condition.

“I will trust you. But once Subaru knows you went missing she will be mad. If she finds you out, she may lock you in your own room.”

Heh, this girl is smiling while she says that. Maybe she wants to try locking me in! I can tell because of her sadistic hobbies.

“To begin with, why do you need my help? The ones who are fighting are Konoe and her old man, right?”

When I said that, Suzutsuki looked away awkwardly. “Because you have to help… After all, the reason why they are fighting is you.”

“Heh?” They are fighting because of me? What did I ever do?

“Last month, there was that incident at the leisure land, right? When Nagare beat the crap out of you.”

“I remember, the old man was the one dressed up as the kidnapper… Ah, don’t tell me…”

“Yes, exactly what you are thinking. After that, Subaru and Nagare have been in a cold war, but this time it went overboard and turned out in a family fight. In other words, everything that happened this golden week was caused by that incident last month.”

Hey, stop that! How many weeks do you think have passed since that? Even though my wounds have cured, even though I barely hold any grudge against the old man anymore…

Even so– She fought because of me.

“Konoe and Nagare are quite troublesome. You know how thick headed those two are, and their family fight was almost like a war.”

“A war?”

“Everything that came close was being involved, it was like a storm.” Suzutsuki breathed deeply. “I never would have expected it would turn in an apple pie throwing festival involving the whole mansion like it did.”

Why apple pie?

Such a family fight without any tension.

“It was like hell you see, to think that half of the mansion would be destroyed by a pie throwing festival.”

“You seem to be enjoying it…”

What kind pie throwing festival was that? I almost wish I had been there to see…

“But for Subaru, her first school-friend being beaten up must have been quite the shock, right? Even though he wasn’t supposed to do that much in my plans. It was also his fault for being driven mad…”

Strangely she is making a complicated face. If she was the one that planned that, I can’t help but feel that there was no way of not falling for it…

Okay… Now that it’s come to this, let’s talk to the old man and make them make up. I also feel bad for being the reason for a family fight.

And once this ends, I will spend a lazy Golden Week, or what remains of it – this is a sudden Home Run.

Kureha will also not do anything harsh to a sick person. There are only a few days remaining, but this is my one and only chance to retrieve my own Golden Week all by myself.

“We are there. Nagare is supposed to be here.”

“Okay, then lets–”

Huh? It’s really here?

We arrived at a… bridge. I didn’t remember its name, but it was a quite large 50 meters big bridge that crossed the river. And from what I could see, there didn’t seem to be any house nearby.

“This way.”

Huh? That way? But that way you go under the bridge. There’s no way someone would be living in such a…

It was quite dark under the bridge, but there was a small cardboard there, and inside there was someone sitting holding their legs. When I saw that I let out a surprised shout.

It was a tall and slender figure wearing a black vest and social pants – the same kind that Konoe uses, but in this case the butler clothing was all torn up. A wild hair cut and silver glasses. And in the chin area a small beard.

When that person saw Suzutsuki that was by my side, he suddenly rose.

“Kanade-Ojou-sama?”

I recognized that husky voice.

The one inside that dirty cardboard was Konoe’s father, Konoe Nagare.
