“Qing Qing, if we end up swimming back later, can you ask Director Kong for some swimming rings?” Luo Xi trailed behind Cheng Qing, glancing around as if trying to be helpful, but she couldn’t spot anything.

Cheng Qing paused as she pushed aside the grass and turned back with a helpless smile. “It’s not time yet. How can you be so sure that we’ll have to swim back?”

Luo Xi didn’t mind much. “It’s always better to be prepared for the worst in any situation!”

Cheng Qing nodded and continued her serious search, casually replying, “With your stamina, swimming back might be a challenge.”

This annoyed Luo Xi. “I do go swimming regularly!”

Cheng Qing chuckled and shook her head. “But can you maintain that routine with your busy work schedule?”

Luo Xi: “……” No, she couldn’t.

Cheng Qing stopped and looked back at her. “Once filming starts, it could last for two or three months. Even if you’re good at swimming, such a long break will affect your performance, especially for long-distance swimming, which requires stamina.”

Luo Xi put her hands behind her head, and her curly black hair puffed up, making her look somewhat cute.

Despite what Cheng Qing said, Luo Xi felt oddly confident that she could handle it. Besides, it wasn’t something she could opt out of!

She gazed up at the sky. “Well, there’s nothing we can do! Director Kong just enjoys seeing us embarrassed. We’ve signed the contract, so if we lose, we have to accept the punishment.”

Cheng Qing felt relieved and happy hearing this. The old Luo Xi wouldn’t have accepted such a punishment.

“Well, if we really have to swim back, there’s no choice,” Cheng Qing said, motioning for Luo Xi to come closer. “Come over here!”

Intrigued, Luo Xi walked over and saw a disordered clump of grass with a small, nameless white wildflower growing amidst it.

The flower had six white petals with a yellow center, not a famous one, but it looked vibrant and cute.

Cheng Qing frowned and smiled wryly, pointing to the stem, “Look here. I meant for you to look at this.”

Luo Xi was puzzled and finally shifted her gaze away from the flower. Upon closer inspection, she noticed a small golden card tied to the stem.

She first felt taken aback, then surprised, and finally overwhelmed with joy, “Oh, oh, oh, we really found it, we found it!”

Cheng Qing smiled, feeling pleased to see her so happy.

Excitedly, Luo Xi twirled around the flower a couple of times, then looked around and indeed spotted a surveillance camera not far away, facing their direction.

Just as Cheng Qing had guessed, the card was hidden in a place under surveillance. Luo Xi felt inexplicably proud and grinned foolishly at Cheng Qing, “This is the first time I’ve found a task item in the competition!”

Saying that, she happily crouched down and made it ceremonious, “So, I’m taking it!”

Cheng Qing chuckled and joined in the laughter, “Go ahead! After all, even if we lose points, they won’t be of much use.”

Luo Xi nodded happily, then extended her hand and untied the card. As soon as she held it in her hand, an announcement was made through the loudspeakers.

“The civilians have obtained one card! The civilians have obtained one card! The civilians have obtained one card!”

Everyone on the island who heard the announcement breathed a sigh of relief. With the first card obtained, the rest should come more quickly.

Luo Xi got the first card and excitedly jumped in place a couple of times.

She turned to show it to Cheng Qing, who briefly raised her hand and quickly put it back down.

“Put it away!” Cheng Qing said.

Luo Xi looked puzzled, “Aren’t you going to take a look?”

Cheng Qing chuckled, “Who found it? Of course, I’ve already seen it.”

Luo Xi happily and carefully put the card into her pocket and then jumped to Cheng Qing’s side, saying, “Cheng Qing, you’re really amazing!”

Cheng Qing felt delighted by the praise and replied playfully, “Wait until I get you on the boat, then praise me!”

Luo Xi was taken aback, her brain instantly going blank, and her face turned bright red.

Her blushing was so obvious that even Cheng Qing noticed.

Cheng Qing stammered, “N-n-no, I mean, the boat for swimming.”

Luo Xi replied loudly, “Of course, I know!” She already knew that, of course!

However, her face remained very red, making Cheng Qing feel embarrassed as well. She placed a hand on Luo Xi’s shoulder and said, “Then don’t be embarrassed, and I won’t be either.”

Luo Xi covered her face with both hands and shook her head in denial, “I’m not embarrassed!”

Cheng Qing choked back a laugh, refraining from mentioning that her face was as red as an apple, and simply said with a smile, “Alright, alright.”

Then she led the way to the next location, and Luo Xi breathed a sigh of relief, patted her face, and hurriedly caught up.

***

They arrived at a new spot by the lake, where the wind carried cool, moist air from the water. It was already past 3 o’clock in the afternoon, and the weather had become less warm than when they first got there.

If they didn’t hurry, it would only get colder.

Cheng Qing scanned the surroundings; she had noted down the locations of 10 cards from the start. The place she brought Luo Xi to search was one of them.

To keep Luo Xi from suspecting anything, she also took her to many other places along the way.

But every time, they returned empty-handed. So when they reached the shore, Luo Xi felt a bit disheartened.

Cheng Qing led her to squat by the lake to enjoy the scenery, and soon enough, a green-colored carp swam over. The fish frolicked in the water, shaking its head and tail, appearing somewhat foolish. It didn’t seem afraid when it saw the two of them squatting there; instead, it came closer and blew bubbles.

Cheng Qing chuckled, “This fish must be used to being fed by people; it’s not even afraid of humans.”

Luo Xi playfully threatened the carp, “I’ll catch you and eat you.”

Cheng Qing burst into laughter, looking at her and saying, “You can’t eat the carp here, can you? Besides, it can’t understand what you’re saying.”

Luo Xi had just said it casually, and seeing Cheng Qing laugh at her own joke, she felt happy. But she also felt a bit childish and embarrassed, so she defended herself by saying, “I was just saying it without thinking.”

Then, Luo Xi, with her wild imagination taking over, asked Cheng Qing, “Do you think Director Kong might have hidden the cards inside the carp’s belly?”

Finding her incredibly adorable, Cheng Qing leaned against Luo Xi’s shoulder while laughing, “Oh my goodness! Are you seriously considering that?”

Luo Xi hesitated for a moment before saying, “Of course not! I was just joking, but Kong Mingyan is capable of doing such things.”

Cheng Qing nodded, “He does indeed do things that are hard for people to understand, but there are so many carp in this lake!”

She pointed at the vast lake and continued, “Countless carp swim here, and only a few have come over! If he had hidden the cards inside a carp’s belly, it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.”

Luo Xi blushed and didn’t admit to her wild imagination earlier. She said, “I was just teasing you with that.”

Cheng Qing playfully ruffled her hair and smiled, “Well, I really enjoyed it. Thank you.”

Now amused by Cheng Qing’s words, Luo Xi also touched her own hair, with a joyful expression on her face.

As the time was approaching, Cheng Qing got up and led Luo Xi to search around. As expected, they found a golden card hidden in the grass by the lakeside. The card was suspended by a string, not easily noticeable unless you paid close attention.

Luo Xi excitedly took the card, and the announcement was broadcast again. Cheers were even heard not far away, amusing Cheng Qing with everyone taking the game so seriously.

After Luo Xi’s excitement subsided, she furrowed her brows and cursed Kong Mingyan, “This is so twisted, hiding the cards in such obscure places on such a huge island.”

Cheng Qing nodded in agreement, “Absolutely!” If it were easier to find, she wouldn’t have to take Luo Xi all the way to search for them. If she took her time, it could ensure the victory of the civilian team.

Having thoroughly searched this area, Cheng Qing suggested moving to another side. Luo Xi had no objections and simply followed Cheng Qing, chatting away.

Cheng Qing didn’t leave her to talk to herself; she responded to Luo Xi’s words from time to time.

Soon, the two arrived at the small wooden house they had seen when they first came ashore.

At first, Luo Xi hadn’t gone in this direction, so this time, she took a few more glances as she passed by the wooden house.

As a result, she noticed something peculiar about the stone next to the wooden house.

“Hmm? Qing Qing!” Luo Xi paused and called out to Cheng Qing, who was already ahead.

Cheng Qing turned back to look at her and asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”

Luo Xi’s eyes lit up, “What is that?”

Cheng Qing walked over to her side, “What? It’s just a stone!”

Excitedly, Luo Xi turned her head to look at Cheng Qing as if she had discovered a new continent. Then, she rushed over to the stone.

After confirming her suspicions were right, she happily shouted, “Qing Qing, come quickly!”

Cheng Qing breathed a sigh of relief and quickly ran over.

As Cheng Qing approached, Luo Xi pointed at the freshly disturbed soil on the ground. Her eyes sparkled like gemstones, fixedly staring at Cheng Qing.

Cheng Qing asked with a half-hearted tone, “What’s going on?”

Luo Xi explained, “The soil around the stone is fresh. It means someone moved the stone!”

Cheng Qing pondered for a moment and then nodded, “That’s very likely.”

Immediately, Luo Xi exerted all her strength to push the stone. The stone wasn’t very heavy, but she used all her might to flip it over.

“There’s a card!!!” Luo Xi’s voice was filled with excitement.

Cheng Qing timely explained, “The werewolf must be afraid of being searched, so they hid the card here.”

Luo Xi was puzzled, “But no one searched anyone just now!”

Cheng Qing smiled and ruffled her hair, saying, “Well, because the werewolf only has 5 cards. If she had 6 or 7 cards, everyone would surely conduct a full search. That would be troublesome for her, so she found a way to hide the cards first!”

“Is that so? But we found it,” Luo Xi responded, but then immediately became suspicious, “All 7 cards… were they all found by us?”

Cheng Qing felt a slight jolt in her heart; she knew there was a flaw in her plan.

However, she didn’t have much time to fix this loophole.

The biggest flaw was that only Luo Xi found all the cards.

This… was unreasonable. Probability-wise, she and Luo Xi were only two people, while the other group had nine people. It was not possible for all the cards to be found by Luo Xi alone.

Although she knew it was unreasonable, once the competition ended, Luo Xi would also realize that she was the werewolf. Cheng Qing had never planned to hide it forever from the beginning, so she didn’t have such a comprehensive plan in place.

To prevent Luo Xi from realizing her plan, Cheng Qing smiled and asked her, “Is there anything you’d like to eat tonight?”

“Huh?” As expected, Luo Xi’s attention shifted, and she laughed brightly, saying, “Kong Director will probably treat us to a meal tonight, right?”

Saying that, she reached out and picked up the five cards one by one.

At the same time, a familiar voice came over the broadcast: “The civilians have obtained 7 cards! The civilians have obtained 7 cards! The civilians have obtained 7 cards!”

After a moment’s pause, the broadcast continued, “The civilians have completed the mission and can go to the shore to take the boat back. Please gather at the shore, the boat will depart soon.”

Cheers could be heard from all around the island.

The two of them were already close to the small wooden house, just a hundred meters away from where the boat was docked. Cheng Qing smiled and said to Luo Xi, “Let’s go there first!”

She breathed a sigh of relief. Although her plan wasn’t perfect, the outcome was good.

For Cheng Qing, her mission was to help Luo Xi obtain the cards, and now that the mission was completed, she felt relieved.

She turned around and led Luo Xi towards the shore. The others were probably still in other parts of the island, so they hadn’t arrived yet.

Cheng Qing was about to ask Luo Xi to put on a life jacket when she noticed out of the corner of her eye that Luo Xi was secretly trying to put something in her pocket.

With lightning speed, Cheng Qing grabbed her wrist, and both of their hands were suspended in the air. Cheng Qing could easily see that Luo Xi was holding 7 task cards.

Cheng Qing was taken aback and looked closely at Luo Xi, noticing her expression filled with sadness and anger.

Frowning, Cheng Qing asked, “What are you doing?”

Luo Xi looked up at her, seemingly calmer now. She asserted, “You said you would take me to the boat, but you never said you would go with me. Only when you were with me did I find all 7 task cards. That means you are the werewolf, right?”

There was no hiding it now, Cheng Qing sighed and admitted, “Yes, I am.”
