Chapter 3 - Waking Up

"Stop…Please Stop…", a much, much younger Arbee cried.

He stared at the broken and beaten bodies of his parents, and then looked up to their captor, with tears streaming down his face, a distraught and scared face. A face that had quite a lot of emotion.

Arbee's mother had dark c.h.e.s.tnut colored skin and silky black hair, or at least what would have been silky if she wasn't so beaten and bruised. If someone were to see her, they would assume she comes from some sort of Indian descent. The color of Arbee's hair was very similar to his mother. His father, on the other hand, had the typical peach colored skin and blonde hair that was found in people of European descent. Arbee's skin color looked like a sort of mix between his mother and fathers, mostly favoring his father's side.

Their captor was a large man, completely covered up from head to toe, only his eyes could be seen. In his hand was a large handgun. That gun slowly turned towards Arbee's mother head.

"Noooo…. Stop!", The little Arbee cried.

The captor, showing no emotion at all, pointed the handgun at Arbee's mother head, and pulled the trigger.

[Bang!]

"Ahhhhh!" Arbee yelled as he woke up.

'I must have had another bad dream,' thought Arbee.

As far as he could remember he's always been having bad dreams, which has really disturbed his sleep. But whenever he wakes up he can never remember what the bad dream is about, besides the fact that it was bad. It has been quite annoying.

As Arbee woke up he noticed an extremely painful pounding in his head. He brought his hand to where the pain was and felt a piece of cloth on his head. He realized that his head was wrapped up with a cloth. He looked down and noticed that his black full sleeves shirt was ripped, turning it into a sort of ragged t-shirt.

He looked around for the girl that was here earlier, and found her a few feet away from him, just sitting there. She hadn't realized that Arbee had woken up yet.

"Hey what happened?" asked Arbee quietly.

The girl turned her head around quickly and saw that Arbee had awoken. In answer to Arbee's question she just shrugged her shoulders, stood up, and acted out falling down. She then pointed towards Arbee's head, and then towards the steel beam that he had it.

Arbee realized that she was probably just as confused as he was, and that she must have been the one to wrap up his head, probably to stop some sort of bleeding. From what had happened, Arbee summarized in his head, that they had both passed out, but because he had hit his head he had remained knocked out for longer, and was losing blood from a cut on his head. But luckily she had woken up and had stopped the bleeding. It seems that they were both indebted to each other, seeing that they had saved each other's life. Or maybe the debts canceled?

The question Arbee had was what had caused them to faint. He had heard that fear could cause people to faint, and they were plenty scared, but he doubted that they would both faint and practically the same time. His next guess was something in the air. He knew that different gases could make people faint. He then remembered that previously when he had looked up, the sky was black, like it was night. He looked up again, to see what the sky was like, and realized that it was like morning again. He hadn't realized before, but actually, since he woke up, it had been bright out.

He looked at his watch, and according to it had been 2 days since the earthquake had happened. He looked at the girl and asked her, "How long ago did you wake up?"

She looked startled, like she was also in deep thought, and hadn't been paying attention. She made a circle with her hand, as in repeat.

"How long ago did you wake up?", Arbee asked again.

To answer that she held up 1 finger.

"So one day ago?" Arbee asked.

She nodded her head up and down.

"Was the sky already bright like this?"

She nodded her head again.

While Arbee couldn't confirm anything, he felt that the cause of their fainting probably had something to do with that blackness in the sky. He just hoped it wasn't anything that will be bad in the long run.

After thinking for a while he got up, and motioned to the girl to follow him. He felt a need to protect the girl, at least a little since his life was probably indebted to her. It was actually interesting, because if he hadn't come to save this girl he probably would have collapsed somewhere else and possibly gotten injured again, which might have caused him to die. He was actually little bit curious why the girl had stayed with him. After all he had been there for a day. She should have been pretty hungry. That told a lot about her character.

The girl nodded her head up and down, and started to follow him. Earlier she had been thinking about what to do. She hoped rescuers would come soon, but the first thing she wanted to do was find her sister, and make sure she was okay.

She wasn't too sure about the rescues, because it had already been 2 days, and she hadn't seen any sign of anyone coming. Earlier, while Arbee was unconscious, she had gone outside, and hadn't seen a single living being. She had also tried to text people on her phone, but there was no connection. She had come back to make sure that Arbee was okay, and was holding out on leaving, but now that Arbee was seemingly okay, she was going to go find her sister. But she figured she would come with Arbee, at least until he was outside. To makes sure nothing bad happened to him, since he was already injured.

Arbee started walking outside. The classroom they currently were in wasn't too far from the entrance of the school. On the way there Arbee took a look at the girl and noticed that she was actually a lot smaller than he thought earlier. Arbee himself, while not extremely tall, was a slight bit taller than average. He was 182 cm tall, while the average is only 177. The girl, on the other hand, was only ⅘ his height. That was about 146 cm, which the average height of a 11-12 year old girl. In fact, if it wasn't for a more developed body, she could have gotten mistaken for one. Her smallness only made her more cute though, it naturally made people want to protect her, and this feeling wasn't lost on Arbee.

Arbee's current goal was just to see what exactly happened, he doesn't know how he was going to do that or what he would do after, so that was all he was focusing on. On the other hand, the girl's goal was to find her sister and make sure she was okay. The first step to that goal was to leave the school, which they did.
