He needed to go there and see what the NPCs were up to but he can't just barge in, he needs a plan.

Alex peeked from where he was hiding and looked at the stairs to see if any more NPCs were coming.

Alex carefully walked towards the stairs without making a single noise, even when he walked normally it felt like there was a noise canceling effect in his legs.

'The perks of being an assassin, I'm already good at hiding and stealth, I can't wait to start unlocking special skills'

Alex reached the stairs and started to climb back up when a sound startled him, the underground door to the stairs was just opened by someone.

Alex quickly turn around and ran back, he wanted to run back to the pillar where he would be hidden but an idea came to his head.

Instead of running he stood close to one side of the wall, and brought out his dagger from his inventory, he wanted to stab the NPC as soon as he entered the room.

"This would be like every other time, there is nothing to be afraid of," a voice said.

'Shit, there are two of them, what if there are more, if I stab the first one I can't come out of this alive' Alex mumbled.

He wanted to run back to the pillar but it was already too late, the first NPC was close to Alex, instead of striking the first NPC Alex stood still hoping they wouldn't look towards him.

The NPC were two in number and they didn't glance in Alex's direction.

Alex wanted to run outside but the NPC were not walking side by side, one of them was in front and the other one was at the back, Alex's instincts began to run wild.

He carefully walked towards the NPC at the back without making a single noise, he used his left hand to cover the mouth of the NPC and held him in place.

Before the NPC could struggle or make a sound, Alex used the dagger to slash the throat of the NPC and gently laid him down on the ground.

The NPC in front was still busy talking when a hand touched his shoulder, he turned around thinking it was his friend that he came with but it was Alex.

The NPC gasped as Alex drove the dagger deep inside his stomach, the NPC held Alex's shoulder and wanted to speak but before he could open his mouth, his body turned to pixel and faded away.

'Phew, that was very thrilling, James must be a level 2 NPC given that I got 50XP' Alex smiled.

He quickly grabbed everything the NPC dropped into his inventory without checking it and made his way back to the stairs.

This time he climbed all the way up without anyone coming in, he wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.

The door creaked loudly as Alex opened it, he wanted to peek outside but the sound the door made was loud enough to alert anyone around so he came out immediately.

Hopefully, no one was around to see him or so he thought, a player saw Alex coming out of the door. The player hid and waited till Alex walked away before coming towards the building.

"When I saw this building I was also suspicious, maybe there is some kind of hidden treasure inside, that player that came out didn't want anyone to see him so there must be something important in here.

The player opened the door only two find two NPCs walking towards the door with steel swords in both of their hands.

The player reeled backward in surprise and the two NPCs looked at each other before speaking, "Welcome to the secret hideout"

"Complete the mission to obtain a unique legendary reward"

"What!! if I complete the mission, I would get a unique legendary reward..."

"Yes" the NPC answered.

"What task would I complete?" the player asked.

"Follow me," one of the NPC told him.

Without thinking twice the player entered the building and followed the NPC behind, one of the NPC turned around and gave the player his steel sword.

"Does my task require me to defeat a beast?"

"Yes"

'I hope it's nothing too strong, what am I saying, this is the newbie village there is nothing above level 10 here so I'm going to get my unique legendary reward'

The three of them arrived at the underground door that led to the room where Alex was before, both of the NPCs stopped and made way for the player to move ahead.

"This door led to the room where the beast is kept, this is where our mission stops so you would be alone"

"How do I obtain my reward after defeating the beast?" the player asked.

"The beast drops a unique legendary reward when killed"

The player faced the wooden door on the ground and opened it, he smiled as he saw the stairs that led to another room.

"This is my lucky day, a unique legendary on my first day, I can't wait to show everyone, I hope I get a fancy weapon or armor considering that I'm a knight, I'm going to aim for the top 3 spot and defeat..."

The player felt a tingling sensation in his stomach, he looked down and saw a sword sticking out of his stomach, the sword in his hands fell down, and slowly he faded away.

"Is this player stupid, how can you get a unique legendary reward in the newbie village" one of the NPC spoke.

"He was so excited, now he has to buy a new VR helmet"

"I still don't know why we are building this project here in the newbie village"

"This is to avoid suspicious eyes, and besides only the newbie village is safe because there is no high level player that can destroy the project"
