"Now, Miss Jiang. Just don't leave like what you did last time. We have so much to talk about," Hero said in a low voice against her ear. The woman in front of him looked like a scared kitten trapped in a corner. He could see her arms trembling, her back stiff against the wall, and her eyes refusing to meet his.

"How about no? I already said that we should forget about it. You already got what you wanted. What else do you want from me?" Luna retorted but still refused his glaring eyes. She could feel his warmth against her body, and to be honest, it was hard for her to ignore the racing beat of her heart.

"Who said I already got what I want?" The difference in his voice made Luna lift her eyes back to him. There was something different on his eyes like he was trying to see beyond her eyes, trying to seek her soul.

"Then what do you want?" Luna tried to stay calm. She couldn't allow him to intimidate her. "You want to sleep with me again? That will never happen. Whatever happened between us that night is the biggest mistake of my life."

A stunned silence descended between them. Hero's eyes narrowed with frozen ice, effectively masking his reaction. Luna leaned farther away from him.

"Don't say that because, for me, it was never a mistake." Hero kept his hand in the wall and regarded her with a chilling gaze. How dare she say it was a mistake? "It is you that I want."

Luna was stunned by his blunt words. Why was he trying to make things complicated between them? She didn't want to have anything to do with him. She fell silent for a moment.

"Please don't make this hard for me," she finally relented. "I have a lot of problems right now. I helped you with Amber because she needed it. Whether she is your daughter or not, I will still do the same thing for her."

"That's a noble cause you did there, but I didn't mean I want you because of Amber. Whether you like it or not, you will come to me," Hero said softly, and Luna was tense enough as it was.

"That's very unlikely, Mr. Li. I told you, I will never become your woman."

No. Luna refused to be treated like a prize to be won. She would never become a trophy wife of some rich businessman.

"I'll give you enough time to think it over." Hero released her from being pinned on the wall, making Luna went limp with relief.

"There's no need for that, Mr. Li."

"You're quite certain you wouldn't fall for me. How sure are you that it won't happen?"

Luna nibbled nervously on her lower lip.

"Because there's nothing going between us. I'm not yours to keep. I already apologized for what happened, and I will very much appreciate it if you wouldn't use it against me." Luna raised her hand in a small gesture.

Hero immediately grasped the implications of her words. Did she really think he would stoop that low just to get her? No. It wasn't his way. He would rather wait for her to realize that she was his than to force her to stay with him.

"I understand, but if you must know, there's something about you that's different."

"W-what?" Luna went still.

But Hero ignored her as he turned his back on her to leave. Seeing him like this, Luna realized how tall and manly he was. His every move was precise and domineering like a king.

"Remember this, Luna Jiang. You can try to run or hide, but you can never deny that there's something going on between us. It will just be a matter of time before you come running back to me."

Luna wanted to say something and to argue about what he'd said, but she couldn't find it in herself to correct him. As he left her alone in the hallway, Luna felt empty and disturbed. Why did it hurt seeing him walk away from her?

'Relax, Luna. Breathe," Luna told herself. "It would be impossible to cross his path the next time."

If only she knew that she was already trapped by the series of misfortune, and there would be no haven for her except in his arms.
