My Brother Pulled Me Into Another World

"What do you mean brother?" Fuji asked in shock. He was more sėnsɨtɨvė to mana, so the surrounding mana was the first thing he noticed. This always clouds his perception of small critters and some even insects unless they use mana or utilizing mana, if that happens, he will surely notice them. His brother, Raiji on the other hand has senses closer to the South Onorian wolves which is why he was included in the hunting pack not so long ago. He could easily tell where the critters and prey are due to his senses. So, it came as a surprise that his brother could not feel any small creatures in the area.

When Ryuji heard this, he also started to notice the deafening silence that envelops the area. No bird or any animal sounds that could be heard at all. They could only hear the flowing water from the stream beside them and their own footsteps. Even the cave that he settled when he first arrived here has rustling sounds but right now, no sound can be heard. It's like no indicators of anything living within the surrounding area. He could not even detect insects. As if he was in a horror movie where the silence before someone will pounce on the people to get scared shitless. The only sound that is constant is the sounds of gentle flowing water could be heard at the nearby stream.

As oblivious to their conversation, they kept walking as Pyun-Pyun kept moving forward. As the fog grew thicker as they walked further away from their cave and even the sound of water seemed to be fading. It was a stifling silence that they could feel. But aside from silence, they could feel something within the fog, but they don't know if it's watching them or not. Ryuji was reminded of a horror game using the fog momentarily distracting himself, but he quickly dispelled the thought because he knows that they need to be vigilant of whatever comes out of the fog.

Pyun-Pyun suddenly stopped hopping where the trees seemed to end and stared at the fog. The silence and the fog make the place very eerie at this point. Ryuji could bȧrėly make it out of the area because of the fog but he is noticing it's a bit brighter when looking above since the trees made it look dimmer while they are on the way here. He has a hunch that this might be a small clearing. Everyone was on a standstill for a moment. The fact that everyone is on guard does not make the feeling better. When Pyun-Pyun suddenly cast wind that made the fog move to the side. 'I think I need to review the status of Pyun-Pyun and the rest soon.' Ryuji thought. The spell looked grand when the slime casted it.

A burst of air surrounding them dispelled the fog in a ten-meter radius around them. Then Pyun-Pyun directed it in front and like a violent wind that passed through, it cut the fog in the middle. These led to reveal things hidden in the fog as the wind passed through. The fog was cut into two and moved away from the clearing and revealed several green and yellow slimes appearing gathering at the shores of the pond each side.

Ryuji noticed this immediately and was cautious about the green and yellow slimes. Pyun-Pyun was light blue when he first saw him but based on some video games, different colors may correspond to different attributes for the slime. 'Different color? They are probably a slime of a higher level.' Ryuji keep this notion in mind. He subconsciously counted the number of slimes, eight green slimes and three yellow slimes. "Be vigilant and do not underestimate the slimes." Ryuji whispered.

The slimes on the other hand had a slower reaction. They were bewildered at first but then they noticed that fog that hid them had been moved to the sides of the pond. A rare sight where the sunlight hit the translucent body of these creatures made them shine a bit. Then they looked around and saw a light blue slime, a goblin and two wolves at the small delta where the stream starts. Sensing danger, the slimes specifically the green ones jumped to surround the new arrivals.

One of them reacted by spewing out a green blob aiming for Ryuji and the wolves.

"What the!? Dodge!" Ryuji flinched. By nature, if something is thrown at you, your reflex action is to avoid and that is what he instinctively did. He avoided the blob towards him and hit the bush at his back instead.

A faint sizzling noise was heard. Ryuji and the wolves looked at where the blob landed. He saw smoke emitted from the plant that was hit by the blob and slowly it started to melt into a puddle. In a video game or movie, it is ok to get hit by that but seeing that this is not a game and getting hit by the blob spells danger, Ryuji felt chills.

It is corrosive. Probably acid.

'It might be cool to get one but right now they are enemies.' Ryuji gulped. He was terrified with the situation. He quickly glanced back to the green slimes and saw more than the initial count of slimes that he had. He can only ȧssume that more had emerged from the fog.

"Raiji, Fuji, avoid the green things that they throw." Ryuji whispered. These slimes cannot be underestimated. They are here and protecting something. This is a sign of intelligence.

Raiji wanted to swipe these creatures with his paws. He growled at the slimes but seeing that they have more numbers he could only growl. 'these pieces of shit.' Raiji was angry. Even if he became a familiar, a wolf should not be bowing down with the slimes. They were the apex predator of the southern part of the valley, but these green slimes are more powerful than him right now. This hurts his pride as a wolf. He was planning to pounce the nearest green slime but stopped when he heard his brother speak.

"Master, we need to kill them." Fuji calmly suggested though he is still distracted by the lingering mana even if the fog was moved away from the pond area. "Slimes will die if we hit their orbs."

'As I have thought, they die when their nucleus is broken.' Ryuji was thinking about possible weaknesses like the games and fiction he read. It may sound dumb but right now he is in a fantasy world and these fiction stories can help him survive.

Oddly enough Pyun-Pyun stood very still throughout the exchange. He is unfazed with the actions of the green slime despite their numbers. Right now, the green slimes seemed to be plenty, double the number when they first saw them.

"Pyun, look out!" Ryuji blurted out in panic.

Pyun-Pyun is still unfazed on the incoming blob. Ryuji dashed toward Pyun-Pyun, it was his first familiar and it's his instinct to grab him and yeet the slime familiar out of danger. Two steps before Pyun-Pyun the ground elevated and it was higher than the trajectory of the second blob. It looked like a small pedestal for Pyun-Pyun. The blob made a splat kind of noise as it hit the earth pedestal that Pyun-Pyun made. It sizzled and slightly dented.

Ryuji was surprised and at the same time embarrassed with the way he acted. He is a middle-aged man who had a second life but in the heat of the moment, he acted like an idiot running to save people or rather monsters. He had forgotten that in a fantasy world, these monsters have their own skills for survival. He was relieved that Pyun-Pyun was unharmed and looking a bit of smug for a moment. His first familiar is a genius. Though there were questions in his mind. 'Where did he learn that?' Ryuji thought but then he reminded himself that this is not the time where his thoughts would need to wander because the green slimes are still adding their numbers, right now the slimes are more than 20 excluding the yellow slimes. The yellow slimes are also adding their numbers. Right now, there are seven yellow slimes. .

Raiji and Fuji watched the exchange between their new master and his first familiar. They are also quite surprised. They knew that this slime cannot be underestimated. Raiji felt jealous with Pyun-Pyun. He was the strongest among the three familiars but right now he is quite useless. He felt pathetic.

"Brother let's try to learn from Pyun-Pyun-sama" Fuji whispered to Raiji. He understood how his brother felt. They were a bit useless this time. They don't know what to do. It's the first time they encountered these many slimes. Usually, they encounter one or two slimes in the past, but they are facing right now numbering to 30 slimes which is a lot. And to top off, these slimes have special characteristics.

The yellow slimes started to make their move.. Among the fog a crackling noise was heard.
