My Brother Pulled Me Into Another World

Chapter 78 - Negotiations on Information (2)

Ryuji is thinking that if a god wants him to finish a quest with no complete information or riddle-like objectives, the quest will be rejected. This is an important matter that Yubis should understand right now. Ryuji might have committed a mistake with the deal with Vreta before, but if more quests from the gods would be happening in the future, a line must be drawn. If Yubis still persists to withhold information, he will just take away his brother to safety and then leave the rest to their own devices regardless of the consequences.

"Ok give me a second." Yubis looked away from Ryuji and into an empty space. This goblin made him put in a real bind. He put out his phone and started to dial. He did a speed dial for Hades. This is quite too much for him, but he can decide as the adoptive father for Takehiko.

Ryuji is watching this in real time. He thought that he should teach these gods to make a proper proposal soon if this trend will continue in the future. While he is a mortal, he needs to be treated equally for such quests. Besides if they want to save his brother, they should have calculated what they should say to him. Saying save your brother but withholding information is something like a cruel joke. Them being the gods of the underworld judging mortals previously, they should be aware that this kind of trickery is tantamount to a form of betrayal. Or was he overthinking it. Regardless, Ryuji thinks that his brother is a top priority but if they want to help, they should get the vague details off.

Horus who had been listening to the whole conversation had sent instant messages to Morticia to urge Hades and Sefie to come to Lab #2 where they are doing the hologram. He looked at Yubis who is now flustered. 'Is this a power of the demigod? No, this might be a higher form of being…' He wondered but he would be surprised if he knew that this attitude stems from years of experience from his past occupations.

After a few minutes Hades and Sefie opened the door of the Lab #2. When Yubis saw that the couple arrived, he felt relieved.

"I will take over from here." Hades said in a stoic manner. "Prepare the holographic projector."

Horus immediately pointed on where Hades should stand. He started to type something on his computer. After he hit the last key, the projector light pointed to where Hades was standing lit up. Horus did not turn off the projector for Yubis so both gods were currently being projected to the other party simultaneously.

"Hades-sama." Ryuji bowed.

"I trust that you have learned from Yubis." Hades asked.

"Yes." Ryuji answered.

"But I hear you are requiring more information." Hades spoke again. He was disappointed in how the conversation went through with Yubis and Ryuji but at the same time he understood.

"Yes." Ryuji did not bother to deny and flatly gave his answer.

"How come?" Hades asked. He wanted to probe the intentions and the insight of an older brother from the previous life of his now adopted son.

"I believe Hades-sama, you do know why I am asking for more information." Ryuji looked at Hades without fear. Indeed, he is talking to god and might be acting rudely right now. However, he believed that he wasn't protecting his brother at all costs if he backed down now. His eyes might have opened about the existence of god, but he remembered how he blamed all the gods right after his brother died. It is not a new thing if he started despising them all over again if he loses his brother again.

"You do realize your impudence as of this moment." Hades maintained his composure, but his words are like warning the goblin that he is pushing too far.

"Indeed, I have, but I believe Hades-sama also realizes the implications of me saving my brother. If you merely bet on my previous memories of him being my brother in my past life should be enough in saving him, you have quite a wrong ȧssumption. Hades-sama, you should already be aware that a mere quest to save him is not the answer." Ryuji calmly stated.

"If we divulge too much, a calamity will trigger as a repercussion." Yubis can't help himself to speak. It is that damned non-intervention clause. They did not have much problem with it previously but right now, it's really a big pain for them dealing with things.

"Fair point. However, if you don't tell me what I need. There will be a bigger repercussion." Ryuji felt something from his heart. He felt all the emptiness, angst, and pain from his memories. Even in a new body, he could feel his heart pounding. He is aware that he might not be able to take it if he hears someone close to him loses his life for the second time. His hands started to tremble. His voice shook for a moment, but he continued, "Forbid that harm shall befall my brother. Because if that happened, I might do something that we can all regret." Ryuji regained his composure trying to control himself with the sudden flashback of memories, but his hands were trembling.

"How dare-" Yubis snapped that he wanted to scold Ryuji. He is angry for the impudence of the goblin, but the dilemma of the world rules is hampering them. He wanted to scream on the goblin's face right now and possibly borrow the thunder strike system that Asian Gods use. Hades was silent observing them, he quickly noticed that the goblin's lanky hands were shaking.

"Yes, I dare to end the lives of people who will bring harm to my brother. Keep in mind that any information that is withheld from me, may actually hinder in saving him effectively. Moreover, it will also affect the survival of the rest of the party." Ryuji resolutely replied. He held his hands at the back together to keep them from shaking. He is furious right now thinking his brother is in danger. He might not have killed another person but with the fury that is now festering within him, he might be able to do it.

"Is this a threat?" Hades calmly looked at the goblin. .

"Yes… Yes, it is. I lost him once and to think that I might lose him again if you still keep your mouth shut. If that happens… I will never forgive anyone." Ryuji's composure is slowly crumbling. His mind is being reminded how he wanted to scream at the person who made him work that day. He wanted to strangle the doctor who failed in saving him. He wanted to hurt the director who had made him several revisions that time. He wanted to punch himself for failing his promise to protect his only kin that time. But he was not able to. It is as if his brother died yesterday. Now the dreaded event is about to happen again, he can't bear that thought. He wanted to focus any effort that he could spare to prevent it from happening again. It might be selfish to say this, but Ryuji wishes not to undergo all the emptiness and pain again. Was it too much to ask for this?

"Alright, give him the information." Sefie said. She is not being projected, but she felt it for a moment. The genuine feeling of how to care and the grief after the loss of a loved one. It might not be exactly the same, but she had that similar feeling before, that same helplessness. They wanted to do something to change the event but were unable to do so. She somehow understands why Ryuji is acting adamant. They had the same goal, to keep their current loved one safe from harm.

Hades gaze upon his wife, observing the wide variety of emotions that is noticeable from her face. Her eyes shined of determination. 'Ha, to call ourselves as adoptive parents and we can't do a simple thing for our child.' Hades smiled upon this thought. He then turned his gaze towards the projection screen where the goblin remains unfazed while his hands are at his back. What the goblin said is not far-fetched, since he is a suspected demigod, he might actually bring calamity if they don't yield. He has strong attachment despite both of them were reborn with different bodies. Hades maintained his composure and finally spoke, "What information do you need then?"

Horus shocked while Yubis sighed. Both the jackal and the falcon gods are thinking that their careers are soon over. They are quite restless because of the system triggers once Hades provides more information. But they can't do anything but trust Hades at this point. He must have a good reason in doing so. The prospect of demotion is quite scary for them individually, but it will be disastrous for the whole organization. Since they unified their devotees as a resource, the gods who has lots of devotees has a large amount to lose at this point. Both of them may probably lose their positions as administrators and power at the same time if the calamity was triggered it might spell an apocalyptic event to the world which may further decrease the devotion that they already have.

"Who is the traitor?" Ryuji asked.
