49. People Are Less Important than a Cat

Translator: Vivian

Chen Ming attached such great importance to the small bottle containing the insect’s blood of witchcraft and the previous zombie bones that he locked them in the innermost concealed box of the drawer.

Three necessary things to resurrect a dead soul by borrowing a corpse were ready except one thing–the tears of a resentful baby.

Chen Ming wanted to ask Bai Wuchang about it, but for Bai Wuchang didn’t come to bother him these days, he had no idea where to find the guy and had no chance to ask.

Zhou Nan’s remaining one month of life was coming to the end gradually. However, the tears of a resentful baby were nowhere to be found.

Chen Ming looked gloomy for a few days because of the last unfortunate thing they lacked which was crucial to prolong Zhou Nan’s life.

However, Zhou Nan himself didn’t pay much attention to it. In his own words, “It doesn’t matter if my soul will be able to return to my body, because the time I’ll stay in the human world won’t change.” There was no regret for him to have met this interesting person Chen Ming and extensively travel with the man in his last month of life.

On the penultimate night before Zhou Nan’s soul would return to the underworld, Chen Ming had no other choice but to accept the unfortunate ending. After thinking it over for a long time, he took a deep breath and said softly, “Zhou Nan, do you have anyone in your family whom you are concerned about? I can help you appear in his dream and make a request.”

Zhou Nan shook his head decisively and refused, “I have nothing to say with the so-called family.”

Chen Ming remembered that Zhou Nan had a conflict with his family and knew that his words were ill-considered, “Do you have any unfulfilled wishes, or… other things you want to do?”

Zhou Nan was silent, and he recalled his short life again, frowning in disgust. Unexpectedly, something hit his soft heart. He suddenly raised his head and said to Chen Ming, “I want to see the stray cat I picked up once again.”

Chen Ming was stunned when some people were less important than a cat for Zhou Nan when he had no time left.

Seeing the extreme firmness in Zhou Nan’s eyes, he knew that Zhou Nan was serious, so he nodded and said, “Let me accompany you to find the cat.” He got up from the bed and changed clothes.

Zhou Nan didn’t expect that they would go without delay, “So soon?”

“Till when are you going to wait, little bro?” Chen Ming felt he was so worried about something that was none of his business. But what could he do? This little timid ghost was always not caring about his own affairs. If Chen Ming wouldn’t help him satisfy his desire, Zhou Nan would probably feel regretful when the guardian of hell came the next day.

Before Zhou Nan ran away from home, he put the lonely cat downstairs, hoping that it could find a better family with its own luck. As for where the cat was now, he had no clue. The only way was to go back to the building he once lived to try his luck.

Chen Ming went to the pet shop to buy cat food, and finally found a 24-hour store. Before entering the store, he specifically asked Zhou Nan what the cat liked, and the answer was the leftovers mixed with broth.

This was quite a difficult problem. Where to find leftovers in the dark night?

Chen Ming had no other choice but to buy the cat food sold in the store. Due to his habit of saving money, he chose the cheapest one all at once in the store. But before checking out, he hesitated–if the cat wasn’t fond of this kind of food and Zhou Nan failed to fulfill his wish, they would suffer greater losses because of the small gains.

Therefore, he put the cheapie back and asked the salesclerk, “Do you have the cat food liked by all kinds of cats?”

The salesclerk cheerfully led him to a counter, took out a delicate package of cat food and handed it to Chen Ming, saying, “Sir, this one is the most popular here.”

Chen Ming glanced at the price tag.

He was afraid that he was having a dream.

He wondered why the price of such a small bag of cat food could be nearly a hundred yuan, and an animal’s life could be more extravagant than a man’s. However, he didn’t show his feelings but asked with a smile, “The price is so high. Is the food good for health?”

“Yes, we imported the cat food of this famous brand from abroad. It is very good for the cats’ fur. Look at the ingredient list here.”

Chen Ming thought even a fool knew it was imported when seeing these lines of unknown words on the package, and if he bought this kind of cat food for cats’ fur, he was afraid that he would become a poor man.

“I wonder how old your cat is? If it’s a kitten, I suggest trying this one.”

Chen Ming looked in the direction of her hand.

Oh, it was a feeling of having a heart attack.
