53. Good Fortune Boy

Zhou Nan wouldn’t say he was lying behind someone, staring at the back of the man’s neck and staying silent for the night.

Chen Ming would not say that he had been watched by a ghost for a whole night, and that gaze kept him up until the sun rose.

Coal Ball had watched the whole thing from the beginning to the end, but it couldn’t tell even if it wanted to. So the man and the ghost stayed in silence for a night, and no one had the courage to speak it out until the end of the night.

When the sunlight filtered through the curtains, Chen Ming slowly got up, and seemingly deliberately gave Zhou Nan time to hide. He moved his stiff neck and the sound could be heard clearly.

Zhou Nan seized the opportunity and quietly floated to the corner, his eyes on the Coal Ball that was stretching itself. Chen Ming still pretended to greet him when he turned around, “Are you awake?”

Chen Ming already had dark circles under the eyes and his eyes were bloodshot. Clearly, he was still sleepy. But he still nodded and said, “Mmm.”

He didn’t even move for the whole night and was breathing evenly, not to mention turning over. Zhou Nan didn’t even think that he could be sleepless. Seeing that he was so haggard, Zhou Nan thought it was the result of lending his life yesterday, asking tentatively, “Was it because… your master lent his life to the ghost that he died so early?”

The past, which he had never mentioned to anyone, struck Chen Ming suddenly. Chen Ming felt that each word hurt him deeply. When facing Zhou Nan, he could only do his best to hide his feelings. The more he  hid, the better he was at it. But the eyes that were looking away subconsciously still showed that he was avoiding the topic.

Zhou Nan dared not ask again.

Chen Ming wobbled into the bathroom and left with a sentence, “I’m not as stupid as him, lending all of his life to a useless soul.”

Zhou Nan couldn’t understand what he was saying, but could only guess secretly, ‘Is it possible that I am still a little useful for Chen Ming?’

After washing up, Chen Ming stepped on his flip-flops to eat at the breakfast shop. He was two streets away from the store when he remembered that he didn’t lock the door. He was too lazy to go back. After all, there was still a ghost and a cat in the store, and few guests would come here in the morning, so there should be no worries.

Unfortunately, today was different- the flower shop had a visitor today. Holding a small leather bag, the person knocked on the window for a few times and found out that no one answered. Then the man tried to push the door directly.

Zhou Nan thought Chen Ming was back when the door opened. Just as he was wondering why Chen Ming was particularly fast today, he looked sideways and saw a face he was not expecting. He could not help but shiver.

He quickly recognized that this person was Li Muquan, whose ancestral grave had an accident before. He then looked at the bag that was tightly held, and Zhou Nan could easily guess that he was here to pay back the money.

Zhou Nan couldn’t really say anything when Chen Ming was not here. He could only secretly watch every move of this uninvited guest.

“Master Chen Ming?” Li Muquan probably didn’t expect the door was not locked yet no one was in the shop. He then called the funny name over and over again, and Zhou Nan almost failed to hold back his laughter.

Probably because he was certain that there was no one here, Li Muquan carefully sat on the old cane chair, his eyes scanning every item in the room.

There were many rare and bizarre things in Chen Ming’s place here: a small bronze statue, a copper penny sword, a black folding fan… These were all used for matters of Yin and Yang, and it was inevitable that people would be curious of them. After sitting for a while, Li Muquan couldn’t stay put. At first, he got close to those antiques for a better look and details, and then he even started to hold and touch them.

If this person had broken Chen Ming’s stuff, Zhou Nan was afraid he would be doomed. After thinking about it for a while, he finally decided to do something. So he repeated his “trick”and brought his pen and paper. He floated right in front of Li Muquan and wrote fearlessly, “My dear guest, please don’t touch or move anything. Chen Ming will be back immediately.”

Li Muquan was a superstitious person, but he was not panicky when he saw the paper and pen floating in mid-air. He nodded his sweaty head, apologized and quickly returned to the cane chair.

He was sitting tight until Chen Ming came back.

“Well? What brings you here?” Chen Ming did not forget about the formalities.

“I, I’m here to pay back the money.” Li Muquan respectfully opened his bag, counted the ten notes with drool and placed them on the small table, “Just now I was curious and I moved some of the things in the room. Then an immortal spirit showed up and warned me. I’m sorry, again. I hope I can be forgiven…”

Chen Ming was stunned–‘Where did the immortal spirit come from? What kind of spirit was it?’

He looked at Zhou Nan and found that the ghost was pointing to his chest and using body language, “It’s me, it’s me!”

Chen Ming understood what happened immediately, and he decided to tease Li, “There’s basically nothing here in this room, what immortal spirit were you talking about?”

Li Muquan was startled, “But I clearly saw that…”

“That’s my good fortune boy.”

The “good fortune boy” who let him willingly lose money and his life in a month’s time.
