64. I Like Someone Else

Translator: Haunted

“According to my common sense, they should.” Hearing Chen Ming’s question, Zhou Nan felt confused too. So he squatted down to look carefully.

“Then why didn’t she do it?” Chen Ming moved forward.

“Perhaps she forgot?”

The two adult men squatted over a girl’s bed to discuss removing makeup. That was quite a funny scene.

“It’s possible.” There was no certain answer to it. Chen Ming didn’t want to guess the girl’s mind anymore. He started to concentrate on waiting for the grieved baby to come.

While waiting, Chen Ming took a nap because it was just too boring. He was then woken by the cry of a baby. He hurriedly took out the compass, and had a close look. The needle pointed straight to the window.

The cry came from the window too.

Chen Ming was no longer sleepy. One second earlier, he was still in a dream. He was wide awake in just a second. Without any hesitation, he went around the bed, grabbed the curtains, paused for a moment, and then opened the curtains abruptly.

Zhou Nan looked over Chen Ming’s shoulders from behind, and the tall buildings across the street came into view.

Bai Yiyi’s home was on the tenth floor.

The cry was gone, and instead there were some baby giggles. Tracing the sound, he found there was a particularly small but quite human-like baby on the edge of the platform less than ten centimeters outside the window, whose limbs seemed to be patched together, and they could even see the blood-stained stitches and thin threads.

The baby grinned when it saw Chen Ming. Its mouth which was supposed to be bare was full of sharp teeth. It reached out its little hand and wiped on the window, leaving a small red handprint on it.

Chen Ming stared at it fiercely, “What are you laughing for? You want me to beat you up?” He rolled up his sleeves and opened the window to bring the grieved baby in.

The grieved baby seemed to know that it couldn’t beat Chen Ming. So it stuck out the tongue, turned around and ran away. To be precise, it was climbing straight down the wall like a mutated gecko.

Zhou Nan felt that it was the right time for him to deal with this on his own. So he took the advantage of being a ghost to walk straight out of the window and chased it first.

“Hey! Wait for me!” Chen Ming couldn’t just jump out of the window. The height of the tenth floor was no joke.

Zhou Nan didn’t listen, because if he didn’t chase it at that time, they probably couldn’t catch up later: “I can handle it!”

The grieved baby used all four limbs together, so it was very fast and it jumped well. It was just leaping freely among the buildings. Within just a few seconds, along with Zhou Nan who was chasing after it, they all disappeared in Chen Ming’s sight. No matter how Chen Ming leaned out from the window, he couldn’t see them.

“Shit…” Chen Ming was absolutely not sure about Zhou Nan’s ability. After all, Zhou Nan was just a young ghost that was definitely not experienced with this. He didn’t even close the window and turned back immediately. He planned to run downstairs and chase Zhou Nan in the rough direction, hoping that the distance was not too far and it was still within the effective range of the compass.

But before he could take more steps, his hand was pulled back. When he turned back, Bai Yiyi, who had been sleeping soundly, had already knelt on the bed and clutched Chen Ming’s wrist.

She bit her lips, and there was a kind of grievance in her eyes, “Don’t go. The annoying ghost is already gone now, right?”

Chen Ming was stunned, because the sleeping pill should not be so ineffective.

“It’s not your turn even if he is not here.” Chen Ming shook her hand away.

“I spat out that glass of water. You drugged it, right? You are afraid that I’ll get in the way?” Bai Yiyi didn’t want to give up. She struggled to straighten up, and hugged Chen Ming’s waist tightly, “I’ve learned a lot these days.”

And that surely included how to identify a man with something on his mind.

Chen Ming was not uncapable of getting away from Bai Yiyi and he just didn’t want to be too rude. But he didn’t expect that she could be so obsessed, and he thought it was meaningless to recover their relationship.

“Let go.” Chen Ming ordered without emotion.

But Bai Yiyi went even further. She tightened her arm around Chen Ming’s waist and leaned her head against his chest. Her voice was charming, “Don’t worry about the grieved baby. Your helper will solve it, right? Stay with me, please…”

Chen Ming instinctively felt sick in front of this woman who betrayed him. He pointed his finger to her forehead, and pushed her as far as possible. Then he solemnly repeated, “I said, let go.”

Bai Yiyi looked up at him. Her eyes were full of tears. She did not let go of her hand, and her body began to tremble with fear and unwillingness. She had to seize this chance because it was probably the last one.

“I really know I did wrong! I don’t have any friends, or income, and everything I need in my life has been taken away from me. I only have you, Chen Ming. Can you forget what happened before and we could start…”

Start all over again.

“I like someone else. Let go.”

Bai Yiyi glared. There were more and more tears in her eyes, and they finally dropped down her face.

Even Chen Ming himself couldn’t figure out who he meant.

“Are these crocodile tears?”

“You are lying…” Even if she couldn’t believe it, Bai Yiyi still loosened her grip.

Chen Ming responded with silence.

“Who do you like? The ghost who cares about you?”

Sometimes, women’s intuition could be such a terrifying thing, because they could detect things that they didn’t even know.

Bai Yiyi quickly noticed the fleeting consternation in Chen Ming’s eyes, which in her view was a stark affirmation.

“You like a ghost?” She lost all her ration and started screaming hysterically, “I’m worse than a ghost?”

Chen Ming was not in the mood to reason with a woman who lost her mind. He felt that it was time to find Zhou Nan, so he turned around and left her alone.

Bai Yiyi still didn’t want to give up. She got out of bed barefoot, ran over and caught up with Chen Ming, as if she was struggling in a torrent, just to grasp the edge of Chen Ming’s coat.

Chen Ming felt the pull. He originally wanted to pull away but he couldn’t manage to do it. So he turned around and planned to push Bai Yiyi away. Things had gone so far, and he didn’t care even if he had to pull her onto the ground.

Bai Yiyi’s strength was unusually strong. While they were pushing and shoving, she grabbed the collar of Chen Ming, pulled down and kissed him.

Chen Ming couldn’t break free and could only turn around with all his strength. Eventually the kiss landed on the cheek. He finally used up all his patience and became intolerant. He then slapped Bai Yiyi on her face right after the kiss.

Bai Yiyi’s brain almost stopped functioning. She stood there like a log, leaning her head and looking at the snow white wall with her dull eyes. It seemed that she even forgot to cry.

Chen Ming pulled over her collar. His eyes were filled with uncontrollable hatred and his teeth were clenched in extreme anger.

“Don’t be so cheap.”

“I just…”

“A grieved baby would only be formed by the miscarriage of a baby that is more than three months old. We broke up just around a month ago. There are some things that you’re not telling me. I didn’t point them out, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know.” Chen Ming let go of her hands, pushed her away, pointed at her nose and said, “Don’t ever come to me. We’ll never see each other again.”

He left behind all his feelings for this woman in the gaudy room, along with her cries.

When he came down to the street, he felt like he just woke up from a nightmare in which he had used up all his strength and could only stumble. He forgot to fix his shirt, or wipe off the lipstick mark on his face, but only remembered to look for Zhou Nan.

Chen Ming took out the compass immediately to check on the pointing. But unfortunately, after such a long delay, the grieved baby had gone too far away, and there was no clue.

He swore in a low tone, and the people who passed by all looked at him.

But swearing couldn’t help him at all. Chen Ming had to take the compass and walk in the direction that Zhou Nan left, calling Zhou Nan’s name as he walked.

He wondered if the city still remembered the man who had been dead for so long.
