My Hero Academia - Saiyaman

Chapter 19 - Quirk Apprehension Test

- P.E. Grounds -

We were currently standing on one of the many, many training fields in U.A. High. We had also already changed into the U.A. sports uniform that had been sent to us a few days ago.

I was additionally wearing my wolf fang necklace around my neck, which I hid under the uniform since accessories weren't usually allowed or recommended during practice.

Well, only when you weren't wearing your hero costume, though.

"Quirk Apprehension Test?!" the others shouted in unison after hearing our teacher said that we would be conducting a test.

"What about the entrance ceremony or the orientation?" asked Uraraka confused.

"If you're going to become a hero, you don't have time for such leisurely events. You all understand the school's reputation for freedom on campus. Well, that 'freedom' does apply to us teachers as well. You kids have been doing this since junior high, too, right? Physical tests where you weren't allowed to use your Quirks."

"Ball Throw, Standing Long Jump, 50-Meter Dash, Long-distance Run, Grip Strength, Repeated Side Steps, Seated Toe-touch and Sit-ups. You will compete in these eight physical tests, so I can properly evaluate your abilities and potential."

"Jin, you finished at the top of the practical exam, right? In junior high, what was your best result for the softball throw?" Aizawa-sensei turned his droopy eyes towards me.

"I don't really remember, but it should be somewhere around a few hundred meters or something." I answered nonchalantly.

I indeed had to take these tests back in middle school, but it was so boring and unimportant that I didn't even bother to memorize the results in these tests.

At the same time, I also hadn't even given it my all back then. I didn't see the need for me to show off in middle school and attract too much attention.

Naturally, this didn't apply to U.A. High. From now on, I actually didn't care whether I stayed low-key or not.

It'll all depend on the situation I'll be in, I guess.

Anyway, Aizawa-sensei and the others were clearly surprised hearing my results for the ball throw.

You must know that you weren't allowed to use your Quirk in those tests in middle school, so if you didn't have a Mutant-type Quirk which boosted your natural physical abilities without actually activating the Quirk, it was extremely rare for someone to throw over hundreds of meters wide as a 'normal' human.

Actually, I could somehow be considered to have a Mutant-type Quirk, since my Saiyan bloodline had already changed my bodily constitution completely, resulting in me having not a normal human body anymore.

So, other than the techniques that utilized Ki, my physical abilities were already abnormal strong.

Although surprised for a second, Aizawa-sensei immediately continued on with his usual lazy expression, "Try using your Quirk this time around. As long as you don't exit the circle, anything you do is fine."

"I understand."

I picked up a softball from the ground and positioned myself inside the circle. I took a short deep breath and took on a pitcher stance.

"Ashido-san, you are good friends with Jin-kun, right? Could you tell us what Quirk he has-desuwa~?" Yaoyorozu Momo asked Mina in a low voice.

And although she tried to ask her quietly, the other students next to her had clearly heard her as well, and immediately shifted their attention towards Mina. They were quite curious about it, too.

Some of them knew that I had placed first in the practical exam, but the majority of them had neither seen nor heard about me or my abilities, so they were quite eager to know of my Quirk.

Even Bakugou and Todoroki perked up their ears. Bakugou, because he thought of me as a stepping stone, and Todoroki, because to him, I seemed to be the strongest in the class, based on his intuition.

"Hm~, it's a bit complicated. Basically, he can control some type of energy from inside or outside his body to attack, defend or use it for something entirely different. I think he can also somehow boost his strength..or..his strength has already been enhanced from the beginning? Ehh~, I don't really remember what he has exactly told me back then. I only know that he is super strong, hehe~!" Mina tried to explain my Quirk to them.

"Wow! It sounds like a versatile Quirk."

"I'm curious of how strong he is."

"What an awesome Quirk!"

"Is it a strength-enhancing Quirk that takes energy to enhance his powers? What does she mean with 'something entirely different'? Maybe a support-type technique? And if his strength was enhanced from the beginning, does that mean that he has a Mutant-type Quirk of some sort. But he clearly doesn't show any signs of it in his appearance. According to Ashido-san, his Quirk seems to be a really flexible one. The potential of the Quirk should be huge."

Hearing Mina's description of my abilities, the others were very surprised and immediately commented on the versatility of my Quirk, while Midoriya switched onto his nerd-mode and rapidly muttered to himself.

Although I could clearly hear them speaking about me, but I just ignored them and concentrated on my next action.

Still in the pitcher stance, I slowly gathered Ki into the ball in my right hand. I had to do it carefully since if I injected too much energy into the ball, it might explode.

After a few seconds, I had finally acc.u.mulated enough Ki and I was ready to throw the ball. I ferociously whipped out my arm and threw the ball into the distance.

Shortly after the ball was thrown, it seemingly broke through the barrier of sound and got blasted off into the distance.

When the ball reached a certain distance of a few hundred meters and seemed to slowly lose height, a small, unnoticeable blue light radiated from the ball, pulling it back up and sending it even further away.

What I did here was actually quite simple. I used my Ki to create some sort of shockwave that would set off after a calculated period of time and distance, which would then propel the ball further upwards the moment it was going to lose altitude.

Soon, the ball was out of our sights and the only thing that could tell us how far it went, was the small device in Aizawa-sensei's hand.

"Before anything else, one must know what they're capable of. That is the most rational way to form the foundation of a hero. Jin Jayden, Ball Throw distance: 2.4 kilometers." Aizawa-sensei announced my result.

"Awesome! That looks so fun!"

"What? 2.4 km??"

"We can use our Quirks as much as we want? As expected from the hero course!"

'Oh, no. You shouldn't talk so happily about it..' I thought to myself because I knew what was now about to come.

"It looks fun, huh?" Aizawa muttered silently.

"You have three years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time?"

Suddenly, Aizawa-sensei fiendishly grinned, "All right then. In that case, whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion!"

"WHAT?!" they all yelled in unison.

Most of the students were shocked by what their teacher had just said.

Obviously, there were still some who either didn't fully believe in his threat and remained calm, or some others who didn't even care since they were confident about not coming in last place.

I belonged to the latter. I was pretty confident in placing somewhere at the top, if not first in the class.

Some students questioned the teacher as to why he would do that, to which he replied that there will be lots of obstacles and hardsh.i.p.s we had to overcome in order to become a hero.

The typical 'Go Beyond and Plus Ultra' speech.

Funnily, I could also sense All Might's presence hiding behind a building. He was watching us, well, rather he was watching Midoriya. He seemed to be still alright, considering his injury and that he had given away his Quirk to Midoriya.

It was quite unfortunate that we hadn't seen each other that often since our first meeting. In total, he had visited us only two more times before he had become quite busy with taking care of school-related stuff, searching for a successor, and at the end, even training Midoriya.

I should make a note to myself, to give him another treatment soon. My various abilities developed even further since the last time we'd met, so I wanted to try healing him some more.

Although I won't be able to permanently keep his remaining powers from One For All inside his body, but at least I could slowly heal and strengthen his body, so he could still have a certain amount of strength when the time comes when he won't be able to use his Quirk anymore.

He wouldn't have to live on in his skeleton form any longer and could slowly build up and regain his muscles again.

I wasn't going to let such a wonderful human being die like that or get depressed in thinking he had become useless after his Quirk had completely vanished.

'Who knows? Maybe All Might could become the first popular Quirkless hero after he lose his Quirk.'

You must not forget that All Might's physical capability was already immensely high during his teens, thus allowing him to use 100% of One For All's power from the very beginning.

And if you also looked at Aizawa-sensei's strength as an individual without any physical enhancement on his body, this claim of mine seemed to be even more realistic and achievable, right?

Anyway, this was something to consider in the future. It'll not happen any time soon.

Now, I should rather just focus on the task at hand..
