My League Of Villains

Chapter 8 - The Results!

Early in the morning, a lonely ray shined through the window. The noise of the city waking up was vibrating on the thick glass. The growls of cars making their way in the wild of the modern jungle, and the honks of their owners suffering from the lack of decent rest. The wonderful pink and reddish shades of the sky were clear beyond the blanket of grey smoke and white clouds, giving a mysterious air to the newborn sun. Commuters and inhabitants alike were wandering from one side to the other of the concrete maze busy with their everyday life, like laborious ants, indifferent to the sight above their heads. Tokyo in the morning wasn't much different than it was in the day or at night. Truly deserving of the title of Metropolis, the city was utter chaos hidden under the illusion of order, laws and common sense. And this city, since today, had at least one more dweller. The alarm rang and Izuku was seized from the sweet embrace of Lady Night. As quickly as possible he finished the steps of his daily routine and dashed out of the small apartment. The owner was his mom's old classmate from high school, so the rent was lower than you would expect for one this close to Shinjuku Station. Also, the elevator was broken and he was living on the 7th floor. His school path was full of hardsh.i.p.s... even starting from his own doorstep! [Well, It's like I'm training my legs...]

To arrive at the Academy he had to take the train to Fuchu and then the shuttle bus. The trip was about an hour and the lessons began at eight o'clock, so he had to wake up very early. But it was for the best. When the Acceptance Letter came he and his family were going crazy! His mom was crying and calling all her acquaintances. She was so proud of her son! Then, she realized the distance problem. If one of her friends didn't offer him a place, he would have had to wake up in the middle of the night and travel for more than three hours. It would have been hell. The school actually had a dormitory, but it was available through merit, so first-year students had to wait for the midterm exams to apply. This would be his first day in high school, and Midoriya was excited and worried. Before the Opening Ceremony, the Admission Rankings would be made public and everybody would be sorted in their classes: based on the score, there was a maximum of ten classes (A-J). They were also going to receive their uniforms!

When he arrived at the Academy there was already a big crowd surrounding the doors where the results would be posted. Remembering the feeling of the Junior High Final Exams, his heart fluttered. Like back then, he pushed his way to the front and looked for his name. This time, starting from the top. He wasn't disappointed.

He was in the top 10! He hoped to make it in the top 50, but to be so high up, it was the best. What surprised the most him were those two familiar names at first and second third place. To think there were such geniuses in his team, but he turned out to be the captain. It was a strange feeling. It felt great knowing he got to be above them, even if it was just a one-time thing. He suppressed those thoughts. It was pathetic and made him feel guilty afterwards. It wasn't their fault they had been born with awesome quirks. Also, this kind of success needed a lot of hard work too! They had to be demonic workaholics just like him. He wanted to keep reading, but the bell went off and he was dragged away by the crowd. The Opening Ceremony was as boring as it could be expected. The first one to speak was Minoru Sasaki, the principal, followed by the funny teacher who was talking at the beginning of the Admissions Exams, Toshiro Yanagi, who once again managed to place the school motto in his speech.

"In face of adversities, be 'always ready'! But enough chit chat. The lessons will soon start, but the new year can't begin without one last event: the delivery of your uniforms! Under your seats, there's a box with your name on it, so don't hesitate, go change! May this be a good year for all of you!"

Walking towards his class, Midoriya admired his new looks. The uniform was pretty cool. It was similar to a normal police officer, but instead of blue it was white and it was made of a different material. The black pants were also quite comfortable, and the peaked cap with the TMPD golden symbol filled him with pride. The only downside was the tie. The class was still half empty and there was no one he knew. He chose a seat in the first row near the window. The scenery outside was truly outstanding.

"If it isn't the captain! I wasn't surprised at all when I saw your name on the list!"

Suddenly, Ren Ryuzaki appeared in his field of view. Somehow, even if was wearing the same uniform as him, he looked as sloppy and messy as ever. Behind him, Naoto Suzuki was pestering him about it. Needless to say, he was as perfect as ever too.

"Ryuzaki, you have to think of the school's image! You are the number one among the new students, how can you be this way! Tell him something, captain!"

Izuku scratched his head, "Guys, let's drop this 'captain' thing. It's in the past now. Just call me Midoriya. But, yes, Ryuzaki, you should mind your appearance more. After all, everyone will be looking at you, from now on!"

"You too, capt... Midoriya? Look at me, I'm wearing it neatly! I showered and combed my hair this morning! It's a curse! A curse I tell you!"

At that moment, another few known faces came in. They were Benkei Osaka, Eiichiro Soba, Masahide Shimizu and Yasuo Watabe. It seemed it wasn't a matter of luck if they won against their senpai: half of the team made it in class 1-A! Or maybe, it was because they won that their score was so high. In that case, the others shouldn't be that far off the mark either. There were other three teams who had a perfect victory in the Practical Exam, so it was understandable some of the others fell short. There were also the other Exams to take in consideration. Izuku was relieved. It seemed he already had a few friends this year. [It's going to be the best school year I had until now!]

And, like this, it began, literally the worse year of his life.
