My New Life In Another World

Chapter 14 - Back to the Guild

After finishing his dinner, Zander went immediately to sleep. He didn't have enough patiance to wash himself or to take care of his sword, he just wanted to get rid of his poisoned condition.

When he woke up that morning he was feeling revitalized. All the unpleasant sensations, the result of been poisoned, had vanished, which lead him to believe that he was in a health condition again.

After washing himself, Zander took a simple breakfast and went immediately to the Adventurer Guild with the head of the Mid-Boss inside of a sack, so he could raise his rank.

As soon as he arrived, Zander went immediately to Madeleine's counter. To his luck, she wasn't attending anyone at the moment. Before she was able to say anything, Zander put the sack in front of her and revealed what was inside, making her dumbfounded.

"Humm... what is this?"

"It's the head of a monster."

"... I know that. What I want to know is what monster is this. It looks like a [Goblin] but is unlike anyone I have seen before."

"I don't know either, I encountered this 'thing' inside the first [Boss Room] of the Beginner Dungeon."

"... What?"

Madeleine was surprised with what Zander said, and she wasn't the only one. The moment that Zander revealed the head of the Mid-Boss, most of the adventurers that were in the Guild started to pay attention to their conversation.

Zander wasn't aware of this but he was someone that has caught the attention of the adventurers of Enek. Enek was a small city, just recently being recognized as one, with the numbers of inhabitants being little over a thousand. As a result, the number of adventurers, that aren't considered habitants, that the city can accommodate is small, close to 150.

Zander registered as an adventurer a week ago and on the next day went directly to a dungeon, without any kind of protection. Most adventurers when they register spend some time making the most simple quests available on the Guild, not the things one usually associate to adventurers like repairs, cleaning and so on, in order to acc.u.mulate enough money to buy yhe minimum protection. Zander however went directly to the Beginner Dungeon on the next day and after he returned he was carrying a sword and a great number of items to sell. This facts alone made he stand out.

Now he was claiming that had defeated the first Mid-Bos of the Beginner Dungeon after just one week as an adventurer. Most adventurers would only consider fighting agains't their first Mid-Boss after three weeks to one month fighing normal monsters, and even than they would do so as members of a party, since doing it alone, in most cases, was the same as court death, even in a Beginner Dungeon.

Simple put, Zander was an anomaly.

"Gi-give me a moment, I need to take this... item to be analysed."

Saying that, Madeleine tried to carry the head with her, but she was clearly having difficulty in touching it. Zander imagined that she was used to dealing with items after they were extracted of the monsters. After some time Zander finally was out of patience and simple put the head back in the sack and hand over everything to her.

After Madeleine left, Zander was left with nothing to do but wait, so he started to look properly at his rewards after the fight with the Mid-Boss. He had already analysed the fight and the possibilities of what might had happened, but he hadn't looked properly on what he had gained.

First, the levels he gained. His [Peasant] job had gained one level and his [Apprentice Swordsman] had gained thre levels. The fact that he had an explosive improvement after a week was good, but it was more luck than anything else. According to the message he received, the EXP that he received was multiplied by a factor of five due to the fact that he killed his first Mid-Boss alone, and combined with his blessing of [2x EXP], the total amount of EXP he received was ten times the normal quantity. Zander decided that he shouldn't expect to gain that much EXP with frequency, just in times that can be considered he achieved something. He expected that the next time would only be when he conquered the Beginner Dungeon.

Second, his new skill. The first skill he received was a passive one, meaning that it was constantly activated, but his new skill, [Slash], didn't seen to be the same. The name of the skill was self explanatory, but Zander wasn't sure on how to properly use the skill, so before he went to combat again, inside a dungeon or not, he should run some experiments to learn how his skill worked.

Third, the [Tittle] thing. On this matter, Zander hadn't made any questions to the system, since he didn't had any [Tittles], but now hat he had, it was time to make them.

'System, what are [Tittles] and what effects they have?'

[A [Tittle] serve as proof that the host has achieved something or overcame certain difficult situations. All [Tittles] give a small benefit to the host when equipped, when the right conditions are met.]

After reading that message, Zander knew what he should do next.

'Equip the tittle [Lone Warrior] and tell me it's benefits.'

[Acknowledge. The tittle [Lone Warrior] improve all attributes by a factor of five percent when host isn't part of a party]

Zander considered that benefit especially useful to him. Right now he wasn't sure of when he would be able to enter in a party, so having that little advantage was especially useful.

After he finished to review his rewards, Zander simple waited for Madeleine return.

It was taking more time than he expected. According to his watch, Madeleine had left for more than twenty minutes. Just when Zander was considering that he should call for her, she returned.

"S-sorry for making you wait."

She seemed out of breath. Clearly something unusual had happened.

"No problem. So, when can I raise my rank?"

"About that, there is something that the Guildmaster would like to discuss with you before raising your rank."

Hearing that, a frown formed on his face.

'The Guildmaster, what does he want?'

Zander was confused. As far as he knew, the Guildmaster was the higuer authority on the Guild, responsible for the administration of not only the adventurers but all the employees, receptionists, appraisers, waiters, cooks and others. He was also responsible for all the accords that the Guild had with the local shops, the city leadership and all the connections the Guild have outside the city. Zander had no idea what this person would want with him, an adventurer at the lowest rank trying to raise his position.

But there was nothing else he could do besides hearing what the person had to say. If possible, Zander wanted to avoid a situation where he needed to go to another city to raise his rank, so the last thing he could do is offend someone so powerful.

"Fine. When do I need to meet him"

"Come with me, he is already waiting."

Saying that, Madeleine left the counter again, heading to a door on the back, and Zander simple followed her.
