My Swarm Academia: Call Of The Void

Chapter 48 - Divided in Dire Straits!

"The main battle starts now, class!" Kai announced. "Stay together and cover each other's backs. And watch well- Aizawa-sensei is going to get to work."

"He's going to fight them alone?" Deku asked, incredulous. That seemed like suicide. "There's too many of them!"

"A hero always has more than one trick up their sleeves!" Aizawa replied, pulling his goggles into position. "No. 13, I'm counting on you!"

With that, he jumped down into the pit, letting his capture scarf billow out behind him. As he fell, several villains prepared long range Quirks to shoot him down. But as they tried to fire, they realized their Quirks wouldn't fire off. Aizawa took advantage of that moment of confusion to wrap them in his capture scarf and pulled as soon as he landed, knocking two of them into each other headfirst. They fell to the ground unconscious.

"You morons! That's the Quirk that erases other Quirks! Eraserhead!"

Apparently, Handy Manny hadn't given them the greatest briefing on their opponents. Still, these guys weren't all idiots.

"Can you even erase mutant types like us?" taunted a huge, masked man with rock-like skin and four arms. He and a group of similar compatriots rushed forward with confidence in their Quirks. They didn't have to worry about being depowered like the shooters.

As Aizawa began to punch and throw and wrap up villains below, Kai looked down with approval.

"See, guys? That's why I'm saying you need to work on skills and experience! As far as attacking goes, he is basically Quirkless! But he has far more skill than necessary to deal with basic thugs!"

"Can we analyze later? We've got to evacuate!" Iida called as the rest of the class was running towards the door behind them.

"No! Wait!" Kai called out.

It's a trap! There's no way they would let hostages go!

"I'm afraid I can't allow that," the dark mist man said. In the blink of an eye, he had positioned himself between them and the exit.

Porters were so hard to deal with. And looking at the nebulous form before him, Kai decided this guy might have a demat, too.

Even worse- dematerialization is a Prime Invincibility, too.

"Greetings," the mist continued calmly. "We are the League of Villains. I apologize for all this, but we took it upon ourselves to enter UA, the base of heroes, in order to engage with All Might, the Symbol of Peace. We were wondering if we might be allowed the opportunity to extinguish him, you see."

Good! You can be negotiated with!

But before Kai could talk, Kirishima and Bakugo leapt past 13 to attack Black Mist man. Bakugo sent two huge blasts into the mist, dissipating a lot of it. However, a moment later, it reformed a few meters out of reach.

"That was rather perilous. But that was to be expected. Though you may be mere students, you are also the hero world's golden eggs."

The mist surged forward.

"Grab on to someone so you don't go alone!" Kai shouted. Hopefully, someone would have time to do so. The worst thing that could happen in this situation would be everyone being isolated and surrounded.

"YOU WILL BE SCATTERED. AND TORTURED. AND SLAIN." The Black Mist's deep voice boomed around them as it consumed the group.

Damn, Kai thought. At least he's not from the Clan, or this would have been the end of my story right here.

When the mist dissipated, Kai felt water pelting his face through the veil. He was in the middle of a city in the middle of a typhoon. As he got used to the water he called out.

"Report! Who's there?"

"Just me," came Tokoyami's voice. Kai cleared the water out of his eyes and found him.

"Let's get shelter! This rain is really annoying! We need to talk!"

Kai could handle fighting in this situation, but he needed to be able to look at the bigger picture. He needed to be able to guarantee everybody's safety. Altogether, there were eight areas in USJ: the entrance he had just been warped from, the central plaza Aizawa was fighting in, and the Ruins, Landslide, Mountain, Conflagration, Flood, and Downpour disaster zones.

If this League of Villains had done their homework, then everyone had been divided between these areas. The Zergling that Kai had summoned at the entrance was still there and confirmed that a few classmates had been left there with 13. Luckily, nobody had been thrown into Aizawa's melee. That would have complicated things.

Once they found a place to prepare, Kai explained his thoughts to Tokoyami.

"If they are attacking here, they are either absolute idiots, or they have ways to do exactly what they are trying to do. Seeing Black Mist, it's the latter. They can kill All Might, so we are the ones who have to protect ourselves.

"As for me, I'm going to try to protect everyone. But in order to do that, we need to clear this area. Then I'll be able to cover every area here. By what Black Mist said, there's no way they are going to send their elites to take care of us- these are just grunts."

Ideally, he would send two zerglings to each area the students were in. They would climb to high ground overseeing each battlefield to observe everyone's efforts. Should it become necessary, they would step in to save them if things got too dangerous. Still, these kids weren't weak. Even Mineta, who had the courage of a chicken with heart problems, was not paralyzed by fear. At least, that was how it seemed in the entrance exam.

However, having seven areas to cover meant that he would have to push his limit of fourteen. With the migraine that would come with it, he couldn't simply sit in the rain and wind. Kai needed to own this area. Then not only could he send the zerglings out, he could have Tokoyami assist the others, and use the pair that would have this area help Aizawa.

If anyone was going to get in the middle of that particular mess, the two who had proxies would be the safest.

"This fake city isn't really that big. Ready to fight?" Kai drew his wooden sword. With the back scabbard, the longsword was also an easy draw, if he found a fitting opponent. For now, he would try to be nonlethal.

"Of course," Tokoyami said. To him, Kai was strange, but far from crazy. Everything he had said made sense. And most promisingly, he had drawn the wooden sword instead of opting for zerglings. It seemed that he really meant what he said.

"Alright. Plus Ultraaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!" Kai shouted, holding his sword aloft as he ran back out into the rain. He kept screaming, daring someone to come and find him.

It didn't take long for the seven thugs in the area to find him, even with the wind howling.

As much as Kai wanted to let off some quips, he was pressed for time. He jumped straight into the thick of things, making sure all eyes were on him. While they were sizing him up, he ignited his eyes, making them back off, unsure of what was going on.

Two of them, at least, never saw Tokoyami coming up behind them. With Dark Shadow's speed and strength, they were crashed together before they had a chance to notice. Kai launched an attack at the same time, feinting towards the nearest goon and redirecting his sword to strike his throat.

This particular goon had a strange swelling there. His Quirk likely was based on the action of spitting. Whether it was fire, acid, or something else, once his throat was hit, he wouldn't be able to do it at all.

While he was coughing, Kai broke his nose and threw him to the ground. Then he stomped his head into the ground for good measure. He didn't want this guy to regain consciousness any time soon. A little head trauma wasn't going to hurt.

Kai, that is.

Now that the baseline of the goons had been determined, Kai felt much better. He was going to have plenty of time to check on everyone else.
