Naruto Hikikaeru

Chapter 35 - 35 Saying Farewell.

Looks like it's finally over now. Naruto thought to himself as he began walking toward the The Third Hokage and Jiraiya. He was honestly pretty tired, as his body began to weigh down on him. His feet dragged across the dirt as he slowly made his way over. I think I'm going to sleep for an entire week, my body is killing me! Naruto complained inwardly.

Sarutobi and Jiraiya both breathed a sigh of relief as they felt that they had finally weathered this disaster. While they had to cancel the chunin exams, Sarutobi figured it wouldn't take too long for them to put on another exam in the near future. However, he knew that things would be different for Naruto, because Jiraiya had already decided on taking Naruto away from the village for quite some time.

"Looks like we've managed to avoid a disaster from happening." Jiraiya smiled.

"It would seem to be the case, but I don't think we played too large a part in this case." Sarutobi replied.

"Why do you say that?" Jiraiya asked.

"Hmm, shall we call it an old man's intuition?" Sarutobi laughed.

Jiraiya stared at Sarutobi for a moment before he laughed as well.

"Well, whatever the case, it's time for me to take Naruto now." Jiraiya said as he turned and started walking toward Naruto.

Suddenly a group of men surrounded Naruto wearing Anbu masks and cloaks.

"PROTECT THE HOKAGE AND THE VILLAGE!!" One of the men shouted.

Then two of them rushed toward Naruto while holding kunais in their hands. One of them went to stab Naruto's heart while the other was aiming for Naruto's neck.

Both Sarutobi and Jiraiya were shocked to see this sudden attack and were caught off guard. Naruto's eyes opened wide as he stared at the two masked men that were aiming for his life. He didn't even have time to think.

Don't think, just act! Naruto heard a voice inside his head tell him. His body then began moving and before anyone realized it, Naruto had grabbed the wrists of the two masked men and spun, throwing them in opposite directions away from him. Naruto felt his muscles tearing in his arms after making the sudden motions in order to avoid a fatal blow.

What's going on? Naruto wondered as his mind started catching up with the situation that was happening. It would seem that someone has become impatient and is taking action against you now. The voice in his head replied. Hateshi? Is that you? Naruto wondered. Who else would you expect to be speaking to you through your mind? Hateshi replied. But don't worry about that, you have other issues to be worrying about now, stay focused. Naruto then focused back onto the masked men that had taken action against him once more.

Naruto pulled out his kunai and deflected several incoming shurikens that were thrown at him, then he leaned back and fell onto the ground to avoid getting kicked in the head. His eyes widened as he saw another foot coming toward his head while he was on the ground so he began rolling to the side to dodge.

However, before anyone could attack Naruto any further, Sarutobi and Jiraiya had taken action. Jiraiya had summoned a large toad that had stretched out it's tongue and wrapped around several of the masked men before placing them inside it's mouth. Sarutobi had created two shadow clones, and with them subdued the rest of the masked men.

"Seal off this area!" Sarutobi commanded to the surrounding Anbu and ninja's that he had gathered here.

While they hadn't been able to serve a real purpose during the battle that had taken place. The least they could do was at least ensure that no more unwanted guests got in or out of the area without them knowing about it.

Sarutobi was furious right now, just as the situation had started calming down, someone had ordered an attack on Naruto. If Naruto hadn't been able to react in time to the assault, then he would have most likely been dead right now. He and Jiraiya then rushed to Naruto's side after they tied up the masked men.

An Anbu member wearing a white cloak appeared beside The Hokage as he issued another command.

"Bring me Ibiki, Inoichi, and Shikaku!" Sarutobi ordered.

"Yes!" The White Anbu Member replied before disappearing from his spot.

Sarutobi and Jiraiya approached Naruto who was breathing hard. Once they arrived by his side, he had managed to sit up while gritting his teeth in pain.

"I want a medical team here now!" Sarutobi commanded to a nearby Anbu team as he began to examine Naruto's injuries.

They quickly vanished and rushed off to complete the task they were given.

"What do you think Jiraiya?" Sarutobi asked.

Jiraiya looked at the masked men before he finally made his response. "I have no proof, but my gut says it's Danzo!"

Sarutobi frowned as he was deep in thought. "Hmmm, I agree with you, but without proof, there's nothing I can do against him…... I'm afraid that with the current situation, there are many who have been reminded of their fear toward the Nine-Tails, and that fear will attach itself to Naruto."

Jiraiya nodded in agreement. "All the more reason for me to take him away somewhere safe."

"Hopefully, between Ibiki, Inoichi and Shikaku, we may be able to gain something from these men. But I don't expect to gain much, Danzo is clever, he wouldn't make such a simple mistake." Sarutobi said bitterly.

"I understand. But don't worry, I'll make sure Naruto is strong enough to handle himself before I let him come back." Jiraiya replied.

"It seems that I have failed The Fourth…" Sarutobi suddenly said as he looked up at the sky.

"After everything he did, I wasn't able to accomplish his final request."

Jiraiya was silent as he stood beside Sarutobi, he looked over at Naruto who was clutching his arms in pain.

...

...

...

Danzo was sitting down by a small table drinking tea.

"What is it?" Danzo asked.

"Reporting from the mission, we failed to eliminate the jinchūriki." A man cloaked in black while wearing a mask appeared behind Danzo.

"I see, have you eliminated all the trails leading back to me?" Danzo asked.

"Yes!" The man answered.

"You may leave now." Danzo instructed.

"Yes!" The man replied before vanishing.

So, the Nine-Tails child still lives. No matter, if Sarutobi believes that the child will still be welcomed here after this incident, then he truly is a fool. Danzo thought to himself. He then began to continue sipping from his tea in silence.

Kakashi and the others were making their way away from the battle that had been taking place. They could feel the tremors that stemmed from there. Kakashi noticed the expressions on his team's faces as well as the other genin. He sighed inwardly to himself as he continued leading the group. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks as he brought his hand up to his ear to listen to the radio he wore.

"Yes. I understand." Kakashi replied after listening.

"You guys continue on; I'll be heading back." Kakashi said suddenly before turning around and leaving.

The other jonin stared at Kakashi with some confusion on their faces before bringing their attention back toward the group of genin.

"Alright, it's time we get going, we're almost to the edge of the forest." Kurenai spoke.

The group nodded in response to her words, however, Sakura, Sasuke, and Hinata barely registered them, as they were caught up with their own thoughts.

Kakashi rushed toward the battlefield as quickly as he could. He thought about the moment when he spoke to Jiraiya before everything started.

-Flashback-

"Yo! Kakashi." Jiraiya greeted as he walked into Ichiraku's ramen shop and sat down beside Kakashi.

"Jiraiya!?" Kakashi looked up in surprise.

"Worried about those kids taking the exams?" Jiraiya asked.

Kakashi looked down at his bowl before he replied. "I'm not worried about Naruto, or Sasuke, but I am worried about Sakura, she's had trouble with her self-confidence recently."

"I see…. Well, I wouldn't worry too much…. Those kids will be just fine!" Jiraiya grinned.

Kakashi smiled back. "Yes, you're right."

"Well, that's not the real reason I came to speak to you." Jiraiya spoke.

"What is it?" Kakashi asked.

"I'm thinking about taking Naruto on as my student." Jiraiya answered.

Kakashi stared at Jiraiya for a moment in surprise. He then looked away in thought, it made sense to him why Jiraiya would take on Naruto. He was Minato's son after all, and the resemblance between the two of them was astonishing. But after spending as much time as he did training Naruto, Kakashi couldn't help but want to refuse.

"Are you asking? Or telling?" Kakashi asked.

Jiraiya thought for a moment before chuckling to himself. "If you're upset about me wanting to take your student from you, then I'll apologize in advance. But how about you think about it, what do you think is best for Naruto?" Jiraiya responded.

Kakashi looked away, just as he was about to respond, they saw the Hokage's summon signal. They both got up from their seats and rushed over to the Hokage's office.

"Lord Hokage! What's wrong?!" A jonin asked, after Kakashi and Jiraiya appeared.

Sarutobi breathed in deeply from his pipe before exhaling.

"The Nine-Tails seal is breaking, and Naruto has begun transforming." Sarutobi announced.

"WHAT?! THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!" A jonin shouted.

Kakashi stared with wide eyes and before anyone could say anything, he had already begun leaving the room.

"Kakashi!" Sarutobi called out, halting Kakashi's movements.

"I understand your urgency, but we can't make any mistakes here, this is a very delicate matter that must be handled with care." Sarutobi explained.

Kakashi took a deep breath before letting it out. He gripped his fists tightly together before he relaxed them. "Yes, Lord Hokage."

Suddenly, the room shook as they felt the earth quake in the distance. Screams could be heard outside from the villagers as the wind began blowing erratically outside.

"This is a high priority mission; I want all the jonin in charge of the genin participating in the exam to evacuate them while the rest of you shall assist me in restraining Naruto!!" Sarutobi commanded.

All of the jonin in the room saluted before vanishing from their places as they rushed to meet the Hokage's orders.

"Jiraiya, I would like you to assist us in this matter as well." Sarutobi spoke.

"Understood." Jiraiya replied.

Jiraiya then turned to leave as Kakashi walked out beside him.

"Kakashi, if things get worse, then I will have no choice but to take Naruto with me. He won't be safe here for awhile." Jiraiya spoke.

Kakashi remained silent.

Jiraiya sighed before giving one last comment. "Just be aware of the situation."

"Jiraiya, if what you say does happen, please contact me." Kakashi suddenly said.

Jiraiya looked at Kakashi for a moment before he nodded his head in response. Then he rushed off, leaving Kakashi alone with his thoughts. As Kakashi was walking out of the Hokage building and met up with the other jonin in charge of the genin teams participating in the exam and together they rushed off.

-End of Flashback-

Soon Kakashi finally arrived at the battlefield. Where he saw Naruto over by The Hokage and Jiraiya, he also noticed several unconscious men that had been tied up and grouped together. He also noticed Ibiki and Inoichi working on them while Shikaku had begun walking toward The Hokage after speaking with the other two.

Kakashi made his way toward The Hokage, Naruto, and Jiraiya as well.

Once he got there, he overheard Shikaku speaking to The Hokage.

"Their minds have been shattered Lord Hokage, it seems they were prepared in case of failure, so we can't be sure we'll gain anything useful from them. But it does match similar cases we've encountered before in regards to Danzo's men."

"I see, thank you Shikaku, you may go." Sarutobi replied.

Then he looked over at Kakashi who was walking toward them.

"Kakashi, why are you here? I thought I told you to evacuate the genin." Sarutobi asked.

"I contacted him, he asked me to if things ended up like this." Jiraiya answered Sarutobi's question.

"I see. Then are you aware of what has happened?" Sarutobi asked.

"Yes!" Kakashi answered.

"Then I'll leave you alone with Naruto, I'm sure there are things you'd like to say to him." Sarutobi said as he walked away.

Kakashi approached Naruto and nodded toward Jiraiya who responded similarly.

By this time, Naruto had mostly recovered, his body was still exhausted, and he was still in pain, but it was now bearable. Naruto looked up to see Kakashi standing in front of him.

"Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto said as he wondered what was going on.

Kakashi squatted down in front of Naruto and placed his hand on Naruto's shoulder.

"Naruto…. I'm sorry…." Kakashi said as he tried to find the words to say.

"Eh? Why are you apologizing for Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked, confused.

"Because of what has happened, Jiraiya will be taking you away from the village…" Kakashi said.

"Eh? Why?" Naruto asked.

But then he paused and thought for a moment as he remembered everything that had happened. It was most likely because he had gotten so close to transforming in Kurama, and put everyone at risk in the village.

Kakashi looked down for a moment before he continued speaking.

"I had wanted to continue training you and seeing your growth, but it looks like I won't be able to do that now." Kakashi smiled bitterly.

"Naruto…. Grow up strong, I believe you'll become a very important shinobi one day!" Kakashi said.

Naruto looked up at Kakashi and nodded his head as he revealed a determined look in his eyes.

"I will!" He replied.

"Shall we go now?" Jiraiya said as he walked up beside Naruto.

"Mm!" Naruto nodded.

Jiraiya laid down a scroll in front of the two. Naruto then looked back to Kakashi one last time.

"Tell Sasuke and Sakura that I'm sorry, and I'll see them as soon as I can!" Naruto called out to Kakashi.

Naruto then gazed in the direction of the village for one last time before he disappeared.

Kakashi watched Naruto disappear with Jiraiya silently, he wondered when he would ever see him again, how much Naruto would have grown by then. Looks like I have to make sure to increase Sasuke's and Sakura's training before he comes back, otherwise they won't be able to keep up at all with him. Kakashi smiled inwardly as he turned to leave.
