Seeing older brothers, fathers and uncles who left the village high spirited come back on the back of wooden wagons, lifeless, was a blow to the kids confidence. They saw those men as admirable figures, people they can look up to and say, they helped to rebuild the Sacred Ghoul empire from the beginning. But they wouldn't be alive to see that.

The women and elderly knew what to expect, so they prepared themselves mentally, but seeing it happen to their loved ones was completely different. Knowing that they died to protect them was enough motivation to become stronger. So their husbands, sons and brothers could be worry-free out there.

Zhong Yi was happy to see that his people were able to get over their losses and strive to become better, especially the soldiers.

His soldiers were aggravated, they blamed themselves for being incapable of protecting their own people. The people they had been fighting to protect had been attacked, when they should've been safe. If not for his majesty's timely appearance, their friends and loved ones could've been hurt or worse, killed.

They felt like they weren't strong enough, that with enough strength they would've been able to protect them better. As a result, The soldiers upped the intensity and frequency in their training coming up with a hellish training regimen leaving them unable to walk unless they cultivated for a while.

Huang Lin had no recollection of the power wielded on the battlefield, nor did he know how to control it. While it was a small problem, they couldn't keep having such an unstable element when in battle.

So for the meanwhile, Huang Lin was ordered to cultivate and reinforce his mental state.

While his brother, Xiao Huang was there to keep him in check. For some reason when transformed, Huang Lin listened to Xiao Huang.

"Your majesty, With the village at intermediate, we can conquer more villages. But, it would be wise to only have silver and up villages as the village special stats would only apply to the next 4 villages we do get."

Minister Cheng looked completely different to when he was on the battlefield. No longer was he a battle maniac, inside that village standing next to Zhong Yi was a man with refined and cultured aura.

"We lost 24 ghouls and 13 more were injured; eleven minor and two major injuries. They have been healed with the eleven back in training while the other two had been advised to rest and recuperate. We have begun to populate the other villages by leaving the summoned there with 10 soldiers to each village."

General Cheng was next, to present his report

"Your majesty, we have regained back our numbers and should have enough to launch an offensive against the goblins at any time, the new soldiers are being put through the hellish training regime and should be ready in another ten days. we found decayed silver grade armour on both goblin general's bodies. I made the decision to send it to the scholars to study, they should be done by next week. But by the analysis given by the head Scholar, he seems to believe that the goblins have found an inheritance at least."

"Good, you did good. I want patrols around the mountain range so we can at least keep the territory temporarily safe. Make the Ghost scout out the entire 250 kilometres and then make them scout another 200. By their speed, they should be able to finish in 2 weeks. General Cheng, Minister Cheng, I want you both to cultivate to stage 3. Both your duties will be handed over to someone of your choice for the time being."

Despite knowing that no one will go against their authority, Yan Zhong Yi wanted them to have strength. in case, a strong foe is encountered and he was not around.

"I have decided!"

Instead of waiting around, Zhong Yi decided to explore the mountain. The strength of the attacker at the time wasn't below his and there could be strong beast inside the mountains just waiting to be killed or better yet, tamed.

"I will go into the mountains along with a squad of our best men to find this thing myself."

"Please your majesty, That's not a good idea. We hardly know anything about the mountain ridges, it could be very dangerous. We should wait until we have more soldiers." Cheng Jian Jun argued persistently but every argument he could think of was calmly rebutted by his majesty.

"Cheng Jian Jun, you remember the attack on the mogesh people." interrupted Zhong Yi, he grew tired of his nagging. While his concern was approved off and welcomed, he was adamant in his decision to go into the mountains.

"How can I not know your majesty" Cheng Jian Jun's expression turned to one of conflict and shame. "I personally led the conquest by order of emperor Ghoul."

"Then you understand why I have decided to go?" questioned Zhong Yi. General Cheng knew, any further argument from himself would anger Zhong Yi.

Bowing his head, Cheng Jian Jun could only reply with a simple "Yes, your majesty"

"We do not want a repeat of that situation whatsoever, So I am going and that's final!"

Cheng Jianguo could only watch from the side as his brothers arguments were rendered useless. "I will prepare the soldiers for the expedition, your majesty"

he dragged his brother out of the village hall and went off to complete his task

Zhong Yi watched as they left and heaved a sigh. With that done, he could focus on himself for a few hours.

Currently, they didn't have any other type of armour that was suitable for Ghouls. Leather was a temporary fixture to the problem, they still were looking for a lightweight, flexible yet strong armour but that would have to wait.

The blood absorption was overpowered, considering that all ghouls are born with it. It made cultivation so much easier, the blood would always carry traces of heavenly aura, the stronger the cultivation, the more the blood carried.

This allowed for ghouls to cultivate quickly, However, they had to stabilise their foundation. Nonetheless, this was still good. The beast herds that happened to be in the territory were slaughtered and fed to the villagers making their cultivation around stage 1.

Ghouls were always on the lookout for more blood even from goblins but that, was only for soldiers because of how bad it tastes. Goblin blood wasn't delicious but it helped and with the amount of goblins that died, the army had enough "resources" to cultivate till they were all stage 3. However, They had to take into account future soldiers and unforseen occasions.

Once a soldier reached stage 2, they had to spend a month stabilising their foundation. Because of how fast they cultivated, their cultivation base was a bit shaky.

A problen with that is their instincts get stronger with them. like on the battlefield, their reason slowly starts to get consumed by their instincts and raw emotions, so they have to cultivate a strong mind or else they would become a beast.

Luckily, no one has gone through it yet, but Zhong Yi wants to find a way to combat it.

On the other hand, battling made their foundation stabilize faster. Therefore, you would always catch glimpses of shadows running around the territory in search of magical beasts and strong monsters.

Zhong Yi and the Cheng brothers were different, probably because of their Grade but they took a shorter amount of time to all of those. For Yan Zhong Yi, it was even shorter than them with half the time.

Feeling in a good mood. Zhong Yi, went to go look for his little girl. He made a promise that wasn't possible at the moment, unless he found one in the mountains.

Even though the village had visibly grown and was teeming with life, Zhong Yi could still pick out Zhong Mei's scent. It was times like this that made him grateful at how convenient beast-like instincts was.

It didn't take him long to find her and when he did, he was surprised.

Zhong Mei stood in front of a crowd with Xiao Huang standing 2 steps behind.

The duo stood in front of children ranging from 5 to 12 like royalty addressing their subjects. It looked like they were having a Court session?

"My daddy said he is going to get me a pet of my choice."

The crowd of children ah'd at Zhong Mei's announcement, staring at her with sparkles in their eyes.

"My uncle said that there is a cave where pets go and make more pets called a den, so you all can get one."

The crowd of children were all visibly excited, who wouldn't want a pet, the princess was giving them one for free.

Seeing their admiration, Zhong Mei stood proud like a peac.o.c.k showing their feathers.

One of the older kids were quick to catch on. "Will they all be the same as your pet."

Zhong Mei nodded excitedly "that's why we are gonna pick one for all of us.

The rest of the kids all crowded Zhong mei and Xiao Huang.

"I want a horse!" "I want a dragon" "I want a dragon too!" "No, I want a kitten" "Yes, lets get kitten" "Eww, I don't want a kitten, it is too girly" "I don't want a dragon, they're ugly" "No…."

Whatever shape or form of order remaining instantly disappeared and Pandemonium soon broke out. Zhong Yi could see Xiao Huang small figure, waving his frantically saying "please calm down" with tears threatening to fall out of his eyes.

The noise attracted curious gazes from a.d.u.l.ts walking by, seeing that they were going to intervene. He waved his hand at them and put a finger to lips signalling them to just wait.

5 minutes had passed and the noise had gotten louder with a few older ones on the brink of fighting it out. Yan Zhong Yi looked over to his daughter whose patience had run out and Xiao Huang who stood behind her because of the threatening gazes of some of the boys in the crowd.

"SHUT UP!"

Zhong Mei's voice tore through all the noise reaching each and everyone of those kids ears. "I am asking MY DADDY to get a BIRD! And that's final!"

"So you want a bird?" Asked Zhong Yi just to make sure.

His voice surprised her but she reacted almost instantly hiding her surprise and morphing her expression to the one that Zhong Yi both loved and despised at the same time.

It was Yan Zhong Yi's weakness.

"It has to be big enough to ride on and sleep on and eat on and ummm… What else Xiao Huang?"

Her eyes sparkled and she puffed her cheeks slightly, Along with her waist long hair and her red eye. She looked absolutely adorable.

"Look at my little girl, looking after her people and being thoughtful. Because of that, I am going to look for a super strong and pretty bird for you" Zhong Yi knew that he would be able to find a few in the world somewhere, as long as they look for it hard enough, maybe even capture a few dens, raise a couple dragons.

His thoughts got carried away, as he started imaging his little girl riding a little dragon with Xiao Hu….

Then it all clicked. He looked down to see Xiao Huang holding the hem of Zhong Mei's dress with a tight grip as if he was afraid she would disappear.

Zhong YI looked Zhong Mei and then Xiao Huang again.

'We'll see'
