New Emperor Of Ghouls

Chapter 25 - 25: Revenge (2)

Cavalry soldiers charged into the forest with a fierce momentum swerving through the trees with practised ease. The horses under the human soldiers galloped with strength in every stride, leaving imprints in the ground.

Compared to the large ancient trees, 30,000 soldiers still seemed small. But from above, they looked like a swarm of bugs and to the ghouls, its all they could ever amount too.

Cavalrymen followed behind the group of ghouls who were fleeing with their tails tucked between their legs. They did not care to check their surroundings, and the few that did never caught sight of the flashes of silver above them and the red eyes in the shadow of the trees or the red plants the forest floor like a sea of blood.

Inside the forest, the legion of cavalry followed the ghouls with passion, even the normally level-headed commander seemed to be driven by his d.e.s.i.r.e to win the battle that he never took notice of how dark the forest had become and when they did, something just clicked inside his head.

He called the cavalry to a halt. His voice travelling over the noise of hooves to all the soldiers who pulled the reins of the horse, coming to a halt

A flash of surprise flickered across General Cheng's face. Deep in these parts of the forest, there was a red plant called [Demisire]. It had the ability to strengthen the emotion or d.e.s.i.r.e of any surrounding beings by insane amounts only if the spores are taken into the body. For the spores to be released the plant had to be crushed and the large amounts of spores being released into the air should have kept them going till they reached the trap point.

But, the human commander was able to snap out of the trance and keep his emotions under control. Once he finished that, he ordered a halt because he wasn't liking his situation.

The soldiers were still being slightly influenced by the Demisire which was good and the horses. Luckily or unluckily, the horses were heavily influenced by the plant and would struggle against the human soldiers control for a bit until their third leg penetrated the ground, and they got stuck.

The observing Ghoul soldiers in the trees internally cringed at the sight, they couldn't even begin to imagine the amount of pain the horses were in. Their clenched jaws with foam flowing down their mouths was the only indication of it.

General Cheng gave the order to begin before he vanished from his spot. When he reappeared, he stood beside commander Ho. The commander was surprised by his sudden visitor and the world went dark soon after he felt a pang of pain in his abdomen.

Before he was whisked away from life, he heard a voice speak to him. "You should've just followed us and you would've lived albeit a harsh life"

The archers were positioned at the rear of the army and on General Cheng's orders to commence the operation. They began to fire volleys of arrows into the rear of the army, they had a large supply of arrows for each archer because their stationary position in the trees.

The surprise attack had caught them off guard and without the commanders further orders, they were unsure of how to act.

Because of the lapse in judgement, both their right and left flank were simultaneously attacked. The rest of the Ghouls entered from then left carving a path of blood through not caring if their retreat was cut off. On the other side, the Linthos entered with such ferocity that the soldiers were frozen still from fear.

With no head to lead the army, They did what their neighbour did and turned towards the closest attacking group intending on charging over and trampling them with ease, only to have the horse under them collapse.

With almost all the horses out for the count, The ghoul army found their work more easy. The horses were out of the way, so they simply walked over to the soldiers who also abandoned the horse, dumbfounded at what they found under it.

Desimire were showing their effect with the human soldiers making mistakes from their hyped up emotions.

Ghouls flowed through the enemy ranks dogging sword swipes, sabre slashes, spear stabs like water and reaped lives as payment for the performance.

An Ming led the Ghoul soldiers from the left to cleave through the left flank. Most of the cavalrymen turned infantry's pitiful attempts at enacting their revenge for their comrades was thrown out the window with a simple kagune through the neck.

With both hands free and kagune acting as a second pair, he and the soldiers behind him appeared like Ashuras on the battlefield. They were so in their element that they never realised their kagune was turning black at the roots and was very slowly expanding.

He jogged at a steady pace with the soldiers maintaining the same pace and grabbed a human soldier by the neck from the corner of his eye. He flared his spirit energy to show his cultivation of a stage 1-3 but his was way more potent. The other Ghoul soldiers followed his example by flaring their cultivation.

Doubt started to grow inside the human soldiers, the enemy was around the cultivation but the ease they killed them made them doubt whether they were showing their actual cultivation.

Seeing that he was spared a few seconds to do what he was supposed to. With a sinister smirk on his face, his kagune impaled the soldier through his shoulder.

"AAARRRGGGHHH!!" Screamed the soldier in pain, yet somehow he was still alive. He could feel foreign spirit energy more potent and richer than his was and it healed him rapidly before he felt another kagune stab through his body.

The watching ghouls were envious but knew they would get a chance later.

An Ming found the sound heavenly and wished to hear more. His kagune acted like they had a mind of their own and pierced the soldier again and again and again. Each stab taking more blood and chipped away at the soldier insignificant life with ease.

The battlefield on the right flank turned silent in an instant, the occasional scream of pain would ricochet through the dimly lit forest.

The fear acc.u.mulating inside them was multiplied from the Demisire under their feet and now they had a direct contact with it instead of the horse breathing in most, meant they were near breaking point

Obviously, not all the humans saw the horrible scene but General Cheng saw it and thought ahead and it's the reason why the same scene was being repeated over at the right flank led by General Hong's son.

*Ten minutes earlier*

Hong Shen saw the cavalry soldiers would soon lose their horses and become weak. Soldiers trained to be cavalry would lose a quarter of their battle power from not having a horse.

*RRROOOAAARRR*

After letting loose a ferocious roar, he sprinted into the unsuspecting victims with a strong force.

He leapt into the air and tackled a soldier of his horse and bore his fangs at the soldier under him still in shock from the attack and bit down on his neck.

*CRUNCH*

The satisfying sound of bones breaking echoed over the stunned silence, scaring the soldiers who was the closest to the victim and even they didn't have time to reach before a different monster leapt at them and repeated the process.

Soon 600 Linthos jumped into the crowd, killing left and right. They moved at fast speeds killing a cavalryman every five seconds.

The cavalry soldiers managed to bring themselves around and push their fears down. They grabbed the reins on the horse with such force as if to convince themselves, they were strong enough.

With a "YA", Some pushed forward intending to gallop into the menace before them and put an end to the torture of their comrades under the monsters. But, it didn't turn out the way it went in their minds.

After being forced forward by the rider, the horse fainted from the pain. Falling onto another horse and making them faint from pain. They dropped like dominoes dropping the soldiers and a few unlucky was crushed and got trapped between two horses.

The trapped humans yelled for help and the fear and desperation carried across the left flank of the battlefield striking fear into the soldiers in the middle, who still didn't know the situation and their commander who had disappeared with a blur.

Hong Shen understood that now would be the opportunity and capitalised on this fact simply by scaring them. The Desimire would do the rest.

With a whistle, the other Linthos around him started to grow in size. From the original size of a cart to thrice that, like when Zhong Yi and Hong Hanjing fought.

Each Lintho bore their terrifyingly long fangs to the humans. Their huge frame as well as the blood dripping from their fangs scared the humans witless.

Seeing 600 of the large monsters was all they could take at this point. The Demisire was a godsend to the Ghoul army.

The fear emanating of the humans was palpable.

Then the unbearable smell of human faeces and urine floated into the Linthos noses. The smell irritated a Lintho who roared at the ones who defecated on themselves.

Hong Shen was unsure of what the Lintho was trying to accomplish because if it was to get rid of the smell, it backfired on him because the stench instead got stronger.

With their task complete. Hong Shen looked over to the Right wing and with his height he could see An Ming playing around with a human, and he had to admit, it looked fun.

Hong Shen he just wanted to finish this and go home because the Demisire was starting to influence some Linthos who had withdrawn slightly from the front line.

So he passed a hurried glance towards General Cheng's direction.
