New Emperor Of Ghouls

Chapter 68 - 68: Assassination

Beneath the cover of the moonlit sky, two small figures moved swiftly over the rooftops of a Goblin city.

Their trained footsteps muffled all sounds, as the leather armour wrapped tightly around their small bodies.

"Will this even work?" One of the assassins spoke voicing his thoughts.

The other grabbed the one who spoke and pulled him behind him down into an ally. The expertly landed on their feet and hid. The darkness of the alleyway hid their figure perfectly.

"What was that for? I was only trying to..." A hand covered the talkative assassin's mouth, and stern yellow eyes stopped any more chances of speech in his throat.

The talkative one watched with scepticism as figures jumped over the alleyway. He counted more than 10 people before they disappeared.

"How did you know they were coming?" He spoke once more in amazement. Not even he could sense people that far out.

The silent assassin looked at his companion with annoyance. " You speak too much for a Goblin assassin. Speak less."

"It's one of my endearing traits, thank you very much. Anyway, don't we have a prince to assassinate."

Without any further words, The silent Goblin assassin climbed the side of the building swiftly and surveyed the rooftops.

Seeing it was clear, he signalled with his hands that the coast was clear, and carried on moving.

They dodged patrols and other suspicious activity searching groups and stopped at the heavily guarded walls of the palace of their target.

A soldier was patrolling every 10 metres of the wall walking back and forth with a torch in hand.

On the inside, they could see the yellow light of torches moving back and forth, suggesting even more guards.

They dropped into a nearby alleyway and moved through the darkness as if they know the layout off by heart.

"When will our contact open the backdoor." Asked the talkative assassin, even though he was sure he wouldn't get an answer.

To his surprise, his silent companion replied. "They regularly open the back door for servants to empty the rubbish and are always escorted by two guards."

The talkative one g.r.o.a.n.e.d. "I'm not impersonating a guard again, Shan Yuan."

Shan Yuan stopped and pointed towards a pair of doors attached to the 5-metre stone wall defending the palace.

"You don't have a choice An Rong."

An Rong stopped messing around when the door opened, and two goblins walked out, placing bags to the side of the wall.

They watched closely as one of the goblins looked out searching for something discreetly, and did various hand signals.

An Rong smiled. "That's our guy."

They both moved quickly. Both guards were facing the opposite direction as the duo approached.

Shan Yuan reached for the dagger at his hip and pulled it out slowly.

His body was crouched low, and his dagger end pointed outwards.

The Goblin guard shuffled uncomfortably. Rubbing the back of his head, he turned towards his partner and saw something moving quickly behind him.

"behind..." His words were cut off as two small yet firm hands grasped his chin and the back of his neck and twisted.

"We have been expecting you." The Goblin servant greeted the assassin duo with bloodied hands. The assassin duo looked past the Goblin servant at the bloodied figure of the other goblin servant.

"Follow me, this path leads to the servant quarters in the right-wing of the palace."

Both assassins had donned the Guards attire before dragging the originals and covering their bodies with the bags of rubbish.

They walked for another 2 minutes before they walked through a small door leading to the servant quarters.

The servant escorted them though rooms of bunk beds. Small kitchens and an ominous looking black door till they came to another for.

"This is where my mission ends. Servants aren't allowed to be out during the night, so my accompanying you would be detrimental to your mission. I wish you the best." The servant popped his head through the door, and looked both ways before ushering the duo through the door and closed it behind them.

"The inside should have the guards sparsely placed, so we shouldn't encounter any guards anytime..." Hands covered his mouth once again and a death glare shut him up.

"Do not jinx.." His words were cut off when a guard walking around spotted the two.

"Hey, you two, what you up to over there." The footsteps got louder as the guard approached.

Shen Yuan's death glare intensified. His eyes conveyed words only An Rong would know from their years of working together. 'I'm going to murder you later.'

"Oi, answer me." Shen Yuan felt the hands touch his shoulder and swivelled round to face the Goblin.

One of his hands covered the mans mouth and the other grabbed the guards hand on his shoulder.

An Rong moved quickly. He glided around the two gracefully before latching onto the guard's head.

"You should've stayed away." He whispered before a crack echoed through the hall. The body limped into him as he dragged it to the room adjacent the one leading towards the servant quarters.

When they dumped the body, they slit its throat and left a dagger on the ground.

The assassin duo walked through the halls with a quick pace. An Ring made sure not say another or even think it because of his jinxing ability that had screwed him over on numerous occasions.

They stopped at the corner of the wall leading the hall where the prince's bedchamber was. An Rong peeked around to see a guard stood at both sides of the door.

"Two guards at the door. How about we did it like that time at that merchant's house." Shen Yuan smiled as both walked around the corner towards the guards.

"Hey buddy, we're here to relieve you." Spoke An Rong.

The Guards at the door exchanged glances. "We hadn't heard of any schedule changes."

"Yeah, that fat one suddenly came out of nowhere and said we had to switch with you guys."

The Guards began reaching for their swords, but it was too late.

A dagger reached their throats and sprang forth a fountain of blood.

"Shit, I must have hit a vein." Cursed An Rong as the floor began to dirt and the scent of iron began to permeate through the air.

"Quick." Whisper-shouted Shen Yuan as they pushed open the door loudly.

"Your majesty, there has been an attack." Shouted Shen Yuan.

The Royal Goblin woke up startled. The female human slaves around him woke up just as quickly. "Your majesty, we have to move now."

"Who dares to attack the palace of the Crown prince of the Scabby eye clan." The royal Goblin stood up from his large royal-sized bed to show off his heavily muscled figure, with anger plastered on his face. The arrogance deep within his bones wouldn't stand for this attack.

"Attend me!" Both assassin duo walked over to the prince at his request.

The malicious smile on their faces wasn't missed by the slaves who stood back purposely.

The prince turned around so they could put on his clothing easier.

However, the gleam from something metal caught his attention in the reflective window in front of him. He turned around quickly to catch the wrist of An Rong who held the dagger.

"I thought something was suspicious. The halls are still quiet and I don't hear no sound of battle like you spoke of." The anger in the prince multiplied from being deceived.

He grabbed An rong by the neck and lifted him off the ground.

In his anger, he forgot the second "Guard" who came with the one still in his hands, and it was a massive mistake that leads to his demise.

A massive spurt of pain caused the Royal prince to let go of the An Rong, who huddled his broken left arm and clutched at his neck.

The prince choked on his blood, struggling to get air into his lungs.

"Prince Alucard demands your death." Whispered Shen Yuan harshly quiet enough for only the dying prince to hear and smiled triumphantly his eyes widened.

Shen Yuan walked over to his partner and picked him up, draping his arms around his neck. "The clan leader will go on a rampage. Get out of here as fast as you can."
