Nightmares And Dreams

Chapter 1 - Prologue

A faint light was seen by the eyes of tiny children.

"Mom..?" a young voice of a girl uttered.

"Dad..?" a boy's voice followed.

Their mother looked at her husband's eyes. They were excited. They have heard their twins saying their first words. The couple hugged each other in joy.

"Dear, please hold Luca for me..." the mother says in a gentle voice as she carries Viviene on her arms.

"Alright dear." The husband replies as he carries the little boy carefully. He tries to support Luca's head with one hand and support his body using another hand.

"Dear... he has your eyes." The mother says to her husband.

The family were happy. They were contented in life. The heiress was happy with her husband and their twins.

4 years later.

Viviene and Luca were now toddlers and were playing around their yard. For their age, they were smart and less child-like.

"Luca! Viviene!" Their mother calls. This caught the attention of the twins.

"Mom, where is daddy?" Luca asked with cute puppy eyes.

Their mother bent down her knees and looked at Luca.

"Ah, dear. Your father is at work right now." She says.

"Mommy, what about lunch?" Asks Viviene as she sits on the floor.

"Don't worry." She starts.

"I made your dad lunch so he won't get hungry, he'll be eating at work." She ends with a smile.

The twins were reassured and were persuaded by their mother to sit on the chairs besides the dining table. She serves lunch and the twins ate happily.

This became the situation almost everyday until...

That night a few months later...

(This situation happened when the twins' father were on a business trip.)

The twins woke up for they have heard glass shattering downstairs.

"Mom!" They shouted in unison and both went out of their bedroom.

No one answered but a faint sound of screaming was heard. Both ran downstairs and were surprised by the situation of their house. The kitchen was a mess, the living room had shattered glasses everywhere, the dining room was filthy and... their mother was nowhere to be seen.

"Do you think mommy is okay?" Luca asked, with tears nearly dripping.

"Y-Yeah..." Viviene replies as she hugs Luca very tightly.

They took small steps together to the nearby window to see who might be outside.

"Mom!" Luca exclaimed.

He saw a man carrying his mother. He started to run outside, but Viviene was able to grab his arm.

"Luca! It's not safe..." Viviene said to Luca.

"No! Mom is held by a man." He shouted. He forced to run and was able to escape his sister's grip.

"Luca!"

Luca ran outside and saw his mother, tied up with a cloth around her mouth, struggling to get out. Their mother tried to shout 'Don't Come!' as loud as she can but it was all blocked by the cloth around her mouth.

"Mom!" Luca shouts as he came and tried to save her.

Viviene was able to catch up on Luca. They were able to untie their mother's hand, but before they could untie their mother's feet, their mother saw the man who was about to stab the kids. She "jumps" up to then with all her energy to save them from the knife.

"Oof!"

The kids fell on the ground.

The masked man was nearing their mother, but Luca tried to stop him. The masked man jabbed Luca using his elbows. Luca flew unconscious.

"LUCA!" Their mother cried out.

*MOM!* Viviene thought as she heard a stab.

That's right, she saw the masked man stab their mother. She fell and was unable to move. Blood was continuously flowing around her wound. She fell unconscious.

Viviene, who was almost scared to death, quickly grabbed Luca and tried to escape, but the man somehow caught up to them and they were smacked by something hard on their heads. The twins fell and the masked man left with a grin on his face which Viviene was able to see ever-so-slightly.

After the incident, the twins woke up in a hospital. Viviene was able to remember everything from last night, but for some reason, Luca had remembered the incident partially. Viviene was shivering from the experienced.

*Mom?!* she remembered.

"DAD!" She suddenly shouted. Luca was startled.

Their father quickly entered their hospital room. He saw her daughter... trembling with fear.

"Mom..." Viviene says slowly.

Their father looked away. He paced through the beds, and beside Viviene he whispers, "I'm sorry honey."

Viviene was dumbfounded at that time. She began shaking even more. Luca, upon hearing the news, cried hard.

Apparently, after the incident, the husband's wife disappeared and was never found at the crime scene. This fact, not bringing upon the twins, remained a secret for the time being.

Nine years have passed since the incident. Viviene seemed to remember the harsh past. She was never able to cope with the trauma, thus, she thought that maybe their mother died because she was part of an enviable clan. Because of this, Viviene struggled to say her true origins (clan and parents). She also developed a bittersweet personality, often times being rude to people except for the ones she cared for, Luca and her cousin, Rebecca who recently moved near their mansion. Luca, on the other hand, was only able to remember parts of the incident, but was also struggling on revealing his true identity to others.

Will the twins be able to cope with the trauma of the past?
