Nightmares And Dreams

Chapter 43 - 31: The Reunion

Clyde tried almost everything to cross the river but nothing worked. If he tried to swim in it, his body heat turns the water into clouds of mist which makes him unable to see and pass through. If he tried to build something to cross over the river, it will take too much time, for the trees around the river are thick and almost impossible to cut in just a day. And if he waited for help — which will not happen in the scary forest — it might take an eternity and Viviene would have been dead by that time. "If Pas were here, we might've gotten to the other side an hour ago." Clyde thought as he lets out a sigh.

Step, step, step.

Clyde heard rustles at the nearby bushes. "More rogues?" he thought. Clyde turned around to check if there are signs that people were nearby — and there was. He crept slowly towards the bushes, trying to be cautious just in case someone were to attack him from behind. "No one..?" he whispered to himself.

^Clyde..?^ a manly voices suddenly says. Clyde turned around yet again quickly. As he saw the ones standing, he rubbed his eyes in disbelief — it was Knight and Luca. They rejoiced altogether for they all had not seen each other for days. ^It's a miracle we're able to find you accidentally,^ Knight says, ^By the way, where's Vivi?^ The smile formed in Clyde's face began to subside. He wasn't so sure if he is going to tell the truth, to avoid the question or to tell a lie. "Clyde?"

"So where is she now?" Luca asked trying to not show worry. "She's with a good friend of mine." Clyde tried to not show nervousness within his words. Strangely, Knight did not ask any questions nor said comments as he just kept quiet throughout the whole situation. The three of them stared right at each other. Silence just crept in unconsciously. "We have no time to waste," — he walked towards the edge of the river — "We have to cross this as soon as possible." Luca had the idea of just crossing it hiking style since the river currents are not to strong. "We can't, our body heat turns the water into mist." Luca thought that it wouldn't be a bad idea, but Clyde corrected him — "It would be bad because the mist might obstruct our view and create a fog in the forest."

Knight finally spoke and presented an idea which made more sense and is more practical in their current situation. Luca just agreed to Knight's idea, however, Clyde was not totally on board with the idea. ^Hey, it will work, trust me.^ — he slapped Clyde's shoulder — ^We just need to get Sophie out of Luca first.^ Knight asked Luca if he could command Sophie out. "I'll try." Knight knew that Sophie might still be mad at him, but he also knew that Sophie cares for Viviene since she was just a little kid.

^Knight.^ Knight looked up and saw Sophie. She was as beautiful as ever even though they just had a fight. ^I heard Viviene got poisoned, so I decided to help you.^ she said. ^Good^

With four people, the idea Knight thought began to take shape. Within hours of gathering resources and using it, the group eventually finished the task. "Phew!"

They made a long bridge from the thick wood from the trees around the river and string from the clothes of the dead rogues Clyde fought previously. "Thanks, Knight." said Clyde. He was grateful for Knight's idea and leadership throughout the whole process.

Sophie stood with a smile on her face. It's as if she just made up with Knight. Knight noticed Sophie's beautiful smile and went closer to her while Clyde and Luca talked to each other. "What's with that smile of yours?" Knight had a nervous tone to his voice. "I just like seeing them happy." She didn't look at him but she felt weird being able to talk to him without arguing. She wanted to say something — explain perhaps, but her mouth can't move. It's as if it was glued or stitched shut.

Knight gathered all his courage to hold Sophie's hand. Sophie didn't pull her hand away from his, rather, she let him pull towards the bridge. His hand was warm and soft — filled with love and his everlasting endurance through the strains that their relationship had.

Clyde called Knight, not paying attention to their public display of affection. "So they made up?" he thought as they all crossed the ugly but tough bridge. Surprisingly, it was sturdy enough to hold four people at once. "So, are we going to the mountain?" Luca asked, trying to sound playful. "Yes" he says in an eager tone, "We finally are."
