Nikita

Chapter 36 - The First Call-Out[2]

"Kyle, I'm going to need you to track Natalya. I need everything you could find about that woman. I don't care how you do it. Get me everything from her childhood to now. Make it thorough," Nikita said the moment that Kyle picked up. He didn't do any greetings, and they had done much of that already earlier today.

"When do you expect it, boss," Kyle asked. He knew the situation was dire, and there was a chance that the virus showing up at the hospital was a way to distract Nikita and keep him from knowing what was going on in his home.

Kyle had already activated the surveillance system and monitored everything Natalya was doing in the house. So far, there was nothing substantial, but he knew better than to get his eyes off the screen.

Now that he was getting another ȧssignment, he would have to pass the tea over to another member of their hacker legion. They would have to share responsibilities as usual.

"In three hours," Nikita said absentmindedly. He was watching the chaos unfold in the hospital. People were scared, and those that were trying to make a run for it were not going to get out quickly.

Liza had locked the hospital, entrances, and exits with her override codes. The only person for whom the gates would open was the CDC, who would be here in thirty more minutes, thanks to the traffic.

"Three?" Kyle asked, making Nikita question him ridiculously, "can't you do it?" Nikita asked, wondering if there was something more than Kyle wanted to tell him.

Natalya was somehow at the center of all this, and Nikita needed to know her connection to the bodies because that was actually the only way to pick up the pieces.

"No sir, I'll send it in two and a half," Kyle said, having sent the call to their team. They were on this, they would be on this, and they would make it all better, Hopefully.

"Good," Nikita said before hanging up and walking into the lion's den. The hospital was full of panic, and despite Liza's voice replaying over the intercoms, nothing was going to make it better.

An outbreak was different from an injury, and injuries could be patched up during an outbreak; that shit would take a while even to have a cure designed, let alone a vaccine. Nikita watched the televisions in the hospital talking about how dire the situation was at Todotorov.

Thanks to the internet, everything in the hospital was already out there, which they couldn't control. So hopelessly, he waved at India before walking to the director's office so that if she hadn't plucked out all her hair from her head because she was overthinking.

Outside of Todorov, there was literally no soul except for the cars that were driving by, with their windows rolled up and their air freshener systems active. Their sanitizers were there with them, too, and the tissues.

Pandemics were not easy things to get through.

They weren't issues that were taken lightly, and Todorov was right at the center of it. Maybe not yet, but what if they couldn't control it, and it all became an insane type of virus? What would they even do then?

Nikita wanted to convince himself that staying positive would help, but would he tell that to the heart patients who were waiting for hearts that the deliveries would be delayed and there was a chance they couldn't make it here in time.

The children were cuddled with their parents, the elderly looking around wondering when the fuċk they had gone back to the 1920 pandemic. This was crazy.

The men in the hospital, at least the strong ones, were helping everyone Settle down, having come to the reaLization that whatever they did, they weren't getting out of here. So it was either they help with keeping people safe and sane while

Amazed by how people were exactly itching at the hospital, Nikita walked his way toward the director's office. Earlier, everything had been okay here, and they were expected, as normal as any den of sick people could be, but here and now, that shouldn't have happened.

He was about to get in the elevator when Maggie called, and he couldn't have been happier. At least for the situation. He wanted to know more about the killswitch victims, especially those who wore Yuri's face like it was his own. It was almost like he had been programmed to do that, but had he?

"Hello, Maggie, who's the pathologist handling the killswitch victims?" Nikita asked as he looked around the hospital. He couldn't get in the elevator because he thought there would be no signal in there.

"Dr. Julia Rostova," Maggie responded with a worried voice. She already knew what was happening in Todorov and wasn't really sure that everyone was okay. She wanted to ask Nikita many things, but time wasn't on their side.

Then again, if the cases were actual, then Maggie was already affected, considering she was there in both instances. That alone made Nikita want to scream in agony, but what would be the use? He had to step up.

" Never heard of that name, but thanks. And don't worry about the hospital; we're working on things here; I'll call you later," Nikita said as he hung up and made it back to the receptionist, Reginia. He needed more information on this Julia Rostova.

Whoever they were, had to have some connection to the victims. Maybe because he was their doctor, but Nikita knew there was something amiss.

"Hey, Reginia, please check the hospital records for a pathologist named Julia Rostova, please, thanks,'' Nikita said as he patiently waited for the response from the beautiful receptionist.

If there really were a Julia Rostova in their system, then he would want to know how long this doctor had been here and whether he was new. Maybe he was new, but why did Nikita's gut tell him otherwise?

"There's no one in our database with that name," of course, there wasn't, but Nikita wanted to be sure.

"Are you sure you checked all the databases of Todorov?"

"Yes, doc, there's no one by that name" well, that made sense and didn't make anything more straightforward. The pathologist was a fake, and right now, whoever they were, they would have already used the dead bodies to their advantage.

What kind of hell loop was this?
