No Choice: You Were Always Mine

Chapter 16 - Intervention

The next day Samaiya went to work with a smile on her face. Her happiness was evident and contagious for all her colleagues. Her colleagues pestered her about the reason for her happiness but she decided she would tell everyone once everything was confirmed, she did not want to jinx anything.

After a long day of work, she returned to her apartment exhausted from playing catch up at work. Samaiya had only one d.e.s.i.r.e to cuddle up in her warm bed, with her huge blanket. But this dream was not going to come true so soon, entering her apartment, there was an interesting sight to behold.

Samaiya took a seat in the living room, her parents and grandparents were lined up sitting opposite from her. It was funny how all of them had sat in a line, with a very serious look on them. Noticing the atmosphere in the room, Samaiya was sure about one thing, there was a long lecture ready to take place and the subject was her.

"Samaiya dear, let me be the one to break the ice. We are here to talk about your marriage." Mrs. Agarwal started, determined to make her daughter agree to Ishaan's hand in marriage.

"Beta, I understand that you are an a.d.u.l.t and you have the right to make your own decisions. But you are at the age of getting married and..." Mr Agarwal was cut off by his father, who had always been short tempered.

"We gave you options, you must marry. Some girls don't even have a choice. You live in India, stop acting like a foreigner." They had already agreed to the arrangement a long time ago, he did not want to break his promise with Ishaan's family. Her grandfather knew that his words were sharp but he only wanted the best for his granddaughter.

"Dont talk like that with your granddaughter, it is the 21st century she has a choice." Samaiya's grandma scolded her husband sternly.

"Beta ignore the old man, listen, we dont want to see you live a life with no one by your side." Samaiya's grandma said, coaxing her granddaughter to understand their goal. It was amazing how thick blood was, she was stubborn exactly like her father and her grandfather. If she left the three alone in a room, they would probably lose their voice trying to convince the other people they were correct.

"Samaiya, I know you may not be intrested in getting married. But until you get married your sister cannot get married." Mrs Agarwal tried to drag Akshara's name to soften the older sister's heart.

Speaking of the devil, Akshara barged in to Smaiya's apartment determined to sleep over at her sister's place tonight. She had brought a lot of snacks to win her sister's favour and not get kicked.

As she walked into the living room she was shocked on seeing her whole family in that tiny space, with a serious look on their faces.

"Hi guys, what brought you to this place." Akshara asked, trying to break the silent atmosphere.

"They are here to convince me to marry Ishaan." Samaiya replied in a blank manner.

When Akshara heard the hint of unhappiness in Samaiya's voice, she got an amazing idea on how to convince her sister to let her stay.

She figured that if she helped her sister with the current situation, she would be able to stay and eat her sister's food and sleep in her comfy bed.

Withought much thought, she blurted out the first thing that came in her head.

"Samaiya's gay, that's why she doesn't want to get married."

Hearing Akshara's statement jaws dropped. Mrs Agarwal started shedding tears on the idea of her daughter never marrying and doing a.d.u.l.t things with another woman. Grandma was beating her c.h.e.s.t, as though she was about to get a heart attack.

"Hei Bhaghvan, what has happened to my child?" Mrs Agarwal cried even more profusely.

"She was such a good girl and now it turns out she she's..." Samaiya's grandma couldn't finish her sentence, she just couldn't say that word.

As the two women were winning an oscar, the men were in complete silence. They were too shocked to know what to say. Should they support their daughter's likes or force her to be straight.

Samaiya just stared at her sister, she didn't know if she should laugh or cry or claim that everything was false or just directly teach her sister a lesson and beat her up.

Samaiya liked the last option, she started walking towards Akshara.

Akshara saw the deadly look on her sister, she knew that this time, She F.u.c.k.e.d up!

Not allowing her sister to attempt her plans on taking revenge on what she had said, just now, She quickly clarified. "Oh! I was just joking. I meant gay as in happy, she is happy to marry Ishaan." Akshara said with a nervous laugh.

"Is what Akshara saying, the truth?" Mrs Agarwal said, hopeful that her daughter would not have to live a hard life.

"Yes, I dont know how she knows, but I did say yes to marrying Ishaan. Actually more like he said yes to me." Samaiya said, with a smile on her face.

"You should have said this sooner, then there would be no confusion." Mr Agarwal said, you could see the relief on his face.

"I knew this girl would do what we say, she always cares about us elders." Her grandmother said, her c.h.e.s.t beating stopped and was converted to patting Samaiya's back.

"Now that everything is solved, let's go home. It's getting late, and everyone has work the next day." Samaiya's grandfather stated. His words were final, everyone got up and exited Samaiya's apartment saying their goodbyes.

Akshara tried to sneak out, but was stopped by a firm voice. "Baby sis, where are you going? We haven't spent time with each other in a long time."

Akshara turned around slowly, her heartbeat quickening at the voice she just heard. She looked at her sister's devil smile. 'Shit I'm in huge trouble. God let her have mercy on me.' Akshara prayed whole heartedly.

1. Beta- child in an endearing way.

2. Hei Bhaghvan- Oh god in an exasperated way.
