NPC’s Domination

Chapter 43 - Assassination

A few minutes later, they finished talking and left the cave with their bows and equipment. Everybody else's attention was diverted to something else, like healing the injured people, or consoling the elders and children. So, I sneaked past the children holding guard at the entrance and walked into the woods, as well with my bow and quiver.

My dirty clothes helped me being camouflaged and stealthy. First, I had to know where the players were. If I didn't know that, I wouldn't be able to set up the trap, as I didn't know how many players there would be.

If it was crouching through bushes, sneaking on tip-toes and lying on the floor. I did everything that was needed to not be noticed by neither the elves nor the players.

Like this, hours passed and I finally found the players in a base they had constructed only recently in the woods. Provisional accommodations, made out of woods, leaves and dirt and a small fire, where they warmed their food they had raided from the village. What a negligence of security. It was a wonder that the elves hadn't found them yet. What a bunch of noobs.

There were eight different of these mud houses. In each slept a pair of three, while in the one that was a bit smaller, slept their leader. First construct a Plan B, as a theoretical back-up and plan A has been changed to assassinating their leader. Now I have to get a dagger or something spiky that is able to pierce their leather armour.

I retreated backwards into the dark and searched the floor, if I found something pointy. This was pretty difficult with practically no sight in the dark still trying to avoid the hunting elves, although I was pretty sure that they had already gone back to their cave and were resting. It all depended on me again. I had actually become pretty independent during the last days. Living without a father, getting a new father, having two fathers again and then being sent of to a life of training, which turned into a hunt, where I had to show all I already knew about the world.

Suddenly, I felt a piercing pain in my hand and smelled a faint trace of blood oozing in the air. Sh*t! Well, at least I had found something that is able to pierce their skin and injure them. I took the item in my hand and felt it. It seemed to be a spiky rock. Lifting it up, I weighed it and made a few swings with it. This rock was way more handier than a normal rock, it was balanced and it was completely flat on one side. On the other side there seemed to be something on it, but after the swings, the thing was gone and with the thing in my hand, I returned to camp, where only three of the players were standing guard.

They had a bad disadvantage on their side. Through the inciting of the fire, their eyes had adjusted to light conditions with such a brightness and weren't able to watch deep into the dark jungle. I on the other side was capable of seeing them perfectly and through these conditions, I snuggled past them carefully.

I arrived at the back of the tent-structured shabby accommodation of these players and as there was no guard on this side, I examined first the thing in my hand. What I saw gave me a great shock. It was the blade of the elven man who had told me to stay back at the cave.

But that meant, that the thing, which I had skidded away, was a part of that same young, elven man. I shuddered at the thought of what they would do when they caught me.

Next, I threw away my thoughts and just silently, but concentrated, worked on cutting open the surface at the back of the leader's tent. The opening got bigger and bigger and soon it was big enough for me to get past it.

I slipped in and I saw the sleeping shape of the elf in front me, his weapons lying beside him just in reach of his grip. First thing to do, was dispose of these weapons, so that he couldn't just attack me. Next, I took out a woollen velvet and stuffed it into his mouth. This way, he couldn't scream to warn his friends if I missed his vital points. An assassination was the most successful if the assassin was a higher-levelled individual than the victim. That way, there was a chance for an instant kill.

Let's hope I could do this fast enough. If not, it would get gruesome, since I would have to cut him at multiple spots until he either died of blood loss or injury.

With a deep breath, I struck out with the elven blade and directly into his heart. Unfortunately, although it was a lethal damage notification, it had neither killed him by instant death, nor had it killed him through the normal damage amount. And that was a lot for his health pool to process.

[Lethal damage done: 70*3]

These elven bastards had kept everything good for themselves. What a shame that they were already dead. If not, I would have killed them myself. If there would have been one at the cave left, I could have taken it and wouldn't have had to bother with searching for it for hours.

The guy, below me, woke up all of a sudden and wanted to scream, but the only thing that came out, was a muffled cry. Then my next strike came at the throat, so he couldn't scream anymore. It was, after all, still a chance there that the others would hear him.

With the next strike being lethal damage again, it killed him with the instant kill function and after making sure that he was dead for sure, I stepped of him and looked down at the carnage I had caused. There was blood everywhere and it was still flowing out of the warm body. I cleaned up my stuff and headed to the next tent.

The experience had made me a bit numb and I missed to notice a stick and as I stepped on it, it cracked. Time seemed to slow down as I saw one of the guards turn around after he had heard the unusual noise. Like a deer in the spotlight, I stood there frozen with my bloody outfit, waiting for him to react first. "Hey, Intruder!" He began to run towards me, but how could I let him catch me? I turned around and ran into the surrounding darkness and left him standing in the dark after just a few moments. He then returned to his friends, muttering something to them: "Elven bastards are everywhere! All of them want to go for our necks!"

He woke up the rest of the players and as soon as he wanted to wake up their leader, a gruesome sight was there. He exclaimed loudly: "What the heck?!" Immediately the rest crowded around him as they heard that something was wrong and soon saw their leader's corpse. Some of them had to vomit and ran off into the woods.

I had returned and saw their agitation from the dark. You wanted it like this! Let this be a lesson for all of you. If you want to mess with someone, make sure you are either as strong as them or you are smarter than them and these players were neither of this.

During the night, the players broke up their small camp and returned to the village, where they had a better ground to fight. I stayed at their old camp and in the morning, I saw the sight of the massacred young lads and lasses from the village. The elders and parents are probably out for revenge if they see this.
