Oh! My Empress

Chapter 13 - Learning From The Maid

"Ahaha, I am sorry," Kim Su Won nodded, rather embarrassingly. "Can you please discreetly arrange for a teacher for me who could teach me how to read and write? I do not want anyone in the family to know." She had to tell the maid that the real Emmeline Whittemore had been playing the pretending game till now. The maid would be heartbroken but at lease she would not need to make any excuses.

It was weird that this maid, who was so fast on her feet, was somewhat dimwit and could not tell that her original miss was just avoiding learning even the basics. Anyway, even if she did know what could she do? Emmeline was a little tyrant after all. Anna wanted to ask vast multitude of questions from her miss but this was not the time. They were having some serious discussion here.

"Miss, it would be very hard to get a teacher without anyone knowing. How about I teach you those?" Anna thought for a bit, placing her index finger under her chin but still could not come up with a better idea. Even just gathering the names of the least offended teachers for her miss was something that had spread far and wide in the house. Even the Duke was surprised and sent a servant to inquire about it. It took her so much time to convince the servant that her miss did not have any ill intentions.

In this house, secrecy and privacy were impossible. Plus, because of her miss's status, her own status among the servants was not that great. Which was why she did not have many friends in the servants' circle that could help her keep the secrets.

"That would work too! I would love to learn from you!" Kim Su Won, who was sitting in her living room in loose clothes, clasped her hands together in excitement. Not only did she need to work on her personal skills, she had to work on her social skills too and start attending tea parties of other noble ladies in her circle. She had to make friends no matter what. And first step would be to be able to send and receive invitations from these places.

Anna was elated hearing the response from her miss. Something had really changed after the accident, had it not? Her miss had become more amiable, she was even enlisting her help.

A sudden fear crept into Anna's heart suddenly. This was too good to be true. Having born her miss's tantrums for eight years now, there was no way she could change so suddenly. What if this were all a dream? Or worse, a practical joke her miss was playing? What if, one day, she would tell her that this all was an act? Anna looked at her miss suspiciously once again. How could she make sure this was not the case?

Kim Su Won shook her head. She could relay read what was written on Anna's face. She was still skeptical, even after a week? Wait, what if this was her power that she gained after transmigration? What if she could read people easily? She had to test it out!

"So, when are we starting?" the miss asked, smiling. She still had to earn the trust of her maid. Life was not easy, eh?

"M-Miss! You want to start now? I mean, we could! I will arrange for a pen and a paper!" Anna could not hide her enthusiasm, despite her doubts. She had, in an instant, decided to see it when the time came. Right now, she could enjoy some peace, at least. She scurried off to bring a pen and paper.

Kim Su Won placed the letter in her hand on the shiny glass table. For the past week, she had just been admiring the luxuries she was getting, a full separate wing of the whole castle was dedicated to each of the legitimate family members.

She herself had east wing because no one was interested in getting bothered by sunrises. It was good for her because she personally enjoyed watching sunrises. West wing was given to her elder sister Cecilia Whittemore for she enjoyed watching sunsets.

North wing was near the front of the castle and was naturally habituated by the Duke and Duchess while the south wing was occupied by her elder brother, the first young master of the house. This was some medieval period society so there were still horse carriages and stuff around. There were also no phones, no TVs, not her usual source of entertainments.. And if she really wanted to get back into her hobby and read novels, she would need to become literate.
