Oh! My Empress

Chapter 42 - Don't Care

"There will be a few people coming in for trial classes. I want you to gauge from whom you would like to study and who clicks best with you."

A few days had passed since the almost public exam Kim Su Won had. Suddenly, her situation had completely flipped. Her wing was now filled with more servants, Anna had help, Chris had dedicated maids and her meals had become rather extraordinary.

The change was for good indeed, the original Emmeline Whittemore had been treated so bad till now. At least, she had gained respect of a few people, if not all.

Meanwhile, her mother had visited her only once, immediately the next day of the exam to yell at her. She got to hear many interesting questions from her mother that day. "What are you scheming now? "If you take away my Ceci's or Ivan's position, I will not forgive you," "If you wanted to study, you should have just told me, why embarrass your elder sister?" etc. etc.

And in the end, she even told her to go die somewhere. At this point of time, Kim Su Won really had an urge to ask this mother of Emmeline if she was her real daughter at all.

But in the end, she stayed quiet. She had to, for her own peace of mind. She had learned that in her original life, her mother would eventually get tired and leave her alone once she realized that her profanities were not working on her daughter.

And it did. Audrey Lazarus just stomped her feet on the floor on being ignored and left. She could not even touch Emmeline anymore, she so wanted to beat this little runt up though.

Anyway, today, after a week, Isaac Laurent had finally visited her wing personally. She had made her new servants prepare a room which would be dedicated to her study time. She separated a room for Chris too. There were too many empty rooms here and the poor kid could use a few too.

She had made this room pretty simple, just like her original room in her previous life. Since her wing was located in the east direction, she put her table near the window, so that she could watch sunrises in peace.

She had this vision, the pure golden sunlight filtering through the window, a slow cool breeze flowing on a summer morning, the light satin curtain gliding along with it and her reading a book, probably a heart fluttering romance novel. Wasn't this something every avid reader wanted to do once in their lifetime?

Her table and chair were also quite simple, made out of wood with no decorations. How could she afford any distractions? She did not want any.

Beside the chair and the table, there were only shelves against the walls. These would later be filled with books. Of course, to entertain her teachers, she had to put a sofa set and table. She did not want to initially, but Anna convinced her otherwise.

She was not the student Kim Su Won anymore. She was the third kid of the Whittemore family and she had a reputation to maintain.

The first thing Isaac told her was that there would be several people visiting her in the coming week. They would all be experts from different walks of life, things Isaac wanted her to learn.

Although she was skeptical but when in her life had she got to choose her teachers? Plus, Isaac really emphasized on her and her teachers' compatibility.

"But Sir Laurent, how can you leave the decision to me? I am just a twelve year old," Kim Su Won asked curiously, her big round eyes blinking a few times.

"Oh? Are you now?" Isaac Laurent, the handsome guy with those fiery red eyes adjusted his glasses, without even giving her a glance. He was fixated on the papers in his hands.

Kim Su Won's heart skipped a beat. What did he mean by that? Did he already suspect her to be someone else? What if they tried to find her secret? The novel did not have any magic in it but she had already created quite a few events that were never mentioned in the novel.

She kept staring at the man in front of her. Also, how was this guy in forties? He looked like someone in his late twenties. His skin was as smooth as her, a kid. Such genes. Was Alex going to look like him too when he grew up?

Isaac was very aware of the looks this seemingly mature kid was giving him. He slapped the papers in his hands on the table.

"Why? It took me a week to analyze your answers in depth. At that time all the big words coming out of a twelve year old good for nothing sounded fancy. Ah, she must have really poured her heart into studying…"

"… But when I really sat down to think about them, they were the simplest ideas I had ever seen, yet they were all brilliant. The way you spoke, it seemed as if you had lived those situations. Are you still telling me you are a twelve year old?"

Isaac Laurent spoke rationally but if he really suspected her to be an impostor of Emmeline Whittemore, why was he not kicking her out of the house or punishing her for impersonating a prestigious daughter of a duke? Kim Su Won could not really understand but she could not really speak anything either. She was pretty much busted.

"Look, I don't care who you really are. Whether you replaced original Emmeline Whittemore somehow, or if you woke up with memories of your past life after your accident. I don't really care. You are a person who is capable of saving our country from its current plight. I will look past everything for that."

It was as if Isaac Laurent could read her thoughts. He answered her exact doubts, taking her by surprise. Her wildly beating heart had suddenly gone cold after his last declaration. Was this it? He was just a country state maniac who would look past everything? Who did he think he was, a patriot? A nationalist?

She scoffed. "I appreciate your sentiments towards the country Earl Isaac Laurent, but are you saying just because you see potential in me, you are ready to forgive anything? What if I was a murderer? Or a person from your enemy country who was going to betray you in the end?"

She had thought she had found one sane person here who really thought about the people and wanted to work towards it. But this man was ready to let go of the criminals if it meant good for the country?

"And are you not putting too much responsibility on the shoulders of a kid? Just because I suddenly found myself with this treasure of knowledge, you want me to save the whole country? I am sorry earl, I only want to study for myself," she replied to him coldly.
