On The Court

Chapter 16 - Andy's big problems

"I'd love to meet Nick." I say to break the silence troubling our discussions.

"I'd really love you to meet him." I smile as Andy says.

Paul is training me harder than ever. I surely would like doing this kind of stuff daily. Difficult trainings and motivation popping in my head. Paul told me to start a career during the U.S. Open. I'm considering it, even though I'm not sure if I'm ready. Andy told me I was ready if I was able to beat Serena Williams but I've always doubted if my capacities were as impressive as a pro player's one.

"What's on your mind?" Andy questions after another big moment of thinking.

"My day. I'm doubting the fact that I can start a career that easily and actually be able to play tournaments. It's a thing I've never done before." I admit.

"It's normal to be nervous. I know exactly what you mean. You want it, but you have to be sure. I'm sure. You can do great." Andy says to encourage me.

I don't answer and keep requesting money to the people passing. But at this time, people barely even notice you. With the day I had, I'd rather have a good night of sleep. I go in the metro station and sit on a bench where I'll be sleeping tonight. Even though it's only seven o'clock when I close my eyes, I open them the next time at six in the morning. After a moment I stop enduring Andy snoring next to me and come out on the street. My legs and arms are pretty sore and heavy. People used to tell me I was weird about being tired. Sometimes I think it feels good, sometimes I feel like it tells me that all my hard work gave me something and sometimes I just want to cut my legs off how much I hate it. I just sit there and don't even ask money. I go check on Andy, but she's sleeping peacefully. I won't wake her up. Today is rest day but the last thing I want to do is sit around and do nothing or I'll get lazy. I decide to go take a walk on the street after warning Andy that I was leaving. I want to go in the residential sector. Near the academy, there's a cute park in which I used to come all the time, just to listen to singing birds. I walk towards it but when I get there, there's a sign saying the park is closed for construction of new infrastructures. So I decide to walk further in the sector. There's pretty much nothing there except construction in progress. I walk back to our usual spot. I see a group of people around someone on the floor, which I can't see exactly. Then I think it's probably Andy who's singing. An ambulance passes besides me and a man who was watching the person on the floor gets on the street, making a sign to the ambulance. I stand there for a second until I see the paramedics trying to push people back, which let's me see Andy laying down, immobile. I run towards the paramedics as they put her on the litter to get her to the hospital.
