One Piece Bounty Wars

Chapter 52 - The Devil Strike's Again

(Whitebeard POV)

It was late in the afternoon when Whitebeard woke up from his slumber, his head a little groggy after drinking so much the night before. Looking around his ship, he saw all of his sons and allies who had come to his aid when he thought he had to fight Garp to get Thatch back, and lots of people from Garp's own crew passed out on the deck, some still with alcohol clutched in their hands.

He smiled at the sight, knowing this was more than he could ever ask for, a family to call his own. He was brought out of his musings when he heard some huffing on the nearby ship belonging to Garp. Taking a glance, he saw Garp and Sengoku both lifting weights that didn't look humanly possible to lift.

"What are you two fools doing?" Whitebeard shouted, getting the attention of the two old monsters, while also waking some of his sons. "You saw what he did, right?!! There will undoubtedly be a war in the time to come, it's best to no get rusty!" Garp shouted back in response, not halting in his training for a second. 'He's not wrong...' Whitebeard thought, knowing that there would be a massive war in the future, one that would change the world entirely.

He watched Garp and Sengoku train, and the thought that he would never live long enough to see the war, let alone fight in it crossed his mind. He was by no means weak, still holding true to the strongest man in the world until he duked it out with Jack, but he had far too many health problems that were draining his strength every day.

All he wanted now was to go out in an epic fight, showcasing his power for the world to see, letting tales of his feats get spread throughout the world. Sadly it was impossible right now, him being kept on life support and monitored 24/7 by a group of nurses who tried their best to keep him alive.

"Good morning, Pops!" Thatch said cheerfully, breaking Whitebeard out of his fantasies as he placed a tray of food next to the old man. "Good morning, Thatch. I take it you slept well?" Whitebeard asked, his smile widening when he saw a cute girl make her way out of the cabin, look at Thatch, her face turn red, then she ran off back into the city.

Noticing the old man's gaze, Thatch turned in time to see the girl flee, then turned back to Whitebeard with a cheeky grin on his face. "You could say that, yeah. Anyway, eat up, and I'll go get Garp to call Soran again. After all, we still need to figure out that business with Teach's WANTED poster." Thatch said, making Whitebeard laugh. He had completely forgotten about that whole business after watching the broadcast last night, but luckily for him he had very capable son's that would keep him on the right track.

"That sounds good. I might even be able to get back at that little thief!" Whitebeard said, getting a chuckle from Thatch, who already had an idea as to how it would go. 'She's got the backing of more monsters than any group in the world, she's greedy, stubborn to all hell, and already scammed you!!' Thatch thought with a shake of his head as he walked over to Garp. 'I just hope she doesn't bankrupt us!' Thatch thought, jumping next to Garp.

"Hey, Garp, could you call Soran for us? We wanna get a hold of Jack!" Thatch asked, getting smiles from both Garp and Sengoku as they stopped their training. "Of course, but let me get some food first! I like to eat with my entertainment." Garp said, then made his way inside the ship, laughing to himself at what was to come.

"I guess we all know how he thinks the talk is gonna go." Thatch said, scratching the back of his head as he watched Garp leave for the kitchen. "It all depends on how you act, and we all know Whitebeard is a proud man. If he tries to one-up the kid, which he most likely will, she'll fight back plain and simple." Sengoku said, remembering that time he was conned. After knowing he was beat and just going along with Soran's "ADVICE" everything went smoothly for him.

"I hope she takes everything you guys have." Sengoku commented with a chuckle. "*Sigh* What did we ever do to you?" Thatch grumbled, annoyed at how these two old geezers were against him. "Do you have any idea how much paperwork you idiots gave me over the years?!! A god damned lot!! I hope she returns all my aggression tenfold!" Sengoku bellowed, getting odd glances from a few people nearby.

Thatch held up his hands, trying to calm the now enraged Buda as he said, "Easy there, old timer. It wasn't me, it was most likely Marco." Throwing Marco under the ship was the best he could think up on the spot, and seeing as how Marco was still passed out drunk, it should be okay. Sengoku didn't look convinced, but he did look to have gotten his anger under control.

The two stood in silence for a few more minutes until Garp walked out of the cabin, holding a mountain of food, a few bags of crackers, some candies, and some drinks. "Okay, I'm all set!!" Garp announced, walking over to the railing, then jumping over to Whitebeard's ship, the Moby D.i.c.k.

"Hey, geezer! I'll ring up Soran in a second, just let me get my recorder ready!" Garp shouted, then without caring about anyone around him, he set down his food, pulled out a Video Transponder Snail and angled it so it was facing Whitebeard. After all of his preparations were done, Garp pulled out his own Transponder Snail and called Soran. After a few seconds, Soran's cheerful voice rang out. "Hello!!" She said, causing Garp to smile happily in response.

"Hey, Soran!! How are you doing today?" Garp asked, sounding genuinely happy to speak to her, which he was. After all he had never gotten so much entertainment from a child before. "Hey Gramps!! I'm awesome!! Did you see that video last night?!!" Soran asked in excitement. "I sure did!! Your big brother was something else!! I'll bet the bad guys all over the world are scared of him now!!" Garp answered back, just as enthusiastic as Soran was.

Beside him, Sengoku was listening with a frown on his face. 'Of course he get's along with a child!! He's a f.u.c.k.i.n.g child himself!!' Sengoku was screaming inside his head, hating how Garp could get along so well with this kid. "I know!! He looked a little scary, but he's actually a big softy!! And did you see how he saved all of those people?!! I'm so proud of him!!" Soran happily proclaimed, not hiding how proud she was of her big brother.

"I did!! I'm really proud of how he saved all those people!" Garp said back, getting curious glances from a few people around him. The way it sounded, it looked as though Garp genuinely meant that, which was weird considering how he worked for the very slavers, but him being who he was, no one dared say a word. "So, are you just calling to chat or do you need something from Granny?" Soran asked, still sounding as happy as ever.

"Well actually, when Jack called us last night, those bad guys he was fighting interrupted the call, so we couldn't get his help. With how old Whitebeard is, we're all concerned he's gonna die before Jack calls us back, so I was wondering if you could give me his number?" Garp said, shooting a winning smile to Whitebeard, who flipped him the middle finger.

Beside Garp, Sengoku was having difficulty holding back his laughter. He actually enjoyed not taking or giving orders, it was so relaxing, and watching Garp torment people and not have to deal with the consequences was shaping up to be his new favorite past time.

"Hmmm... I guess I could, but it will cost the old man a bit more. Plus if he's that far a long in his years, he shouldn't need the money anyway." Soran said, her thieving personality coming back into play. "I'll let you discuss that stuff with him." Garp said, then passed the Transponder Snail to Whitebeard, then gave the man a thumbs up.

"Hey kid!" Whitebeard greeted, his deep voice trying to sound happy, when really he was just annoyed, mostly at Garp though. "Hey Geezer!" Soran greeted back, mimicking Whitebeard's tone of voice. "The younger generation has no respect for their elders!" Whitebeard commented, getting a scoff from Soran.

"Oh please!! I respect you, I just don't like your attitude! Now let's cut the chitchat! You want the number to THE STRONGEST man in the world, which will cost quite the sum. By my calculations after factoring in the $500 million you already owe, your attitude, and your need for it on such short notice, the cost would be... $1.2 billion berries all said and done. Just give it to Grampa Garp instead of sending it to East Blue, he'll see that I get it." Soran said, not letting the amount be up for debate.

Whitebeard's right eye was twitching uncontrollably, and he was breathing a lot harder than usual, but he still managed to say, "I'm not arguing, but could you please tell me how you came to that number?" Although he sounded calm, he was anything but.

"Of course!!" Soran responded happily. "First there was the $500 million which you already agreed to. The number itself is worth that amount, if not more, but because we are already asho- ashoiat- associated, I'll leave it at $300 million, bringing the total to $800 million. Quite generous on my part, I know, but that's what you get with continuous business." It was always cute watching a kid learn new words, and Soran could pick them up pretty quick.

"Your attitude isn't the best, but I can't really hold that against you too much, but you will need to start calling me by my name, showing me a little decency. So far your attitude cost you $100 million, bringing the total to $900 million." Soran paused to let all that sink in, something Nami said was useful to see how they were reacting and to see if she had to explain it better in case they were slow in the head.

After a moment she continued "Then there is the need of it on such short notice. I'm sure my brother is busy, and he will contact you in the next few days, which is understandable considering he was helping thousands of people. The cost for needing it today is $25 million berries, then the cost of $75 million to get it to East Blue, then Grampa's finder's fee of $100 million for finding good clients, plus the $100 million cost of guaranteeing it's delivery. I know what you're thinking, the $75 million should have done that, but Gramps informed me that merchant vessels get robbed all the time, and you don't get your money back, but the $100 million guarantee mean's if it does get stolen, he will reimburse the loss entirely. With everything added up, it comes to $1.2 billion berries. Does that make sense to you, or do I need to explain it better?" Soran said, causing Whitebeard to actually smile.

"You're a shrewd little business woman, girl. I understand, and I accept." Whitebeard said, getting a cute little laugh from Soran. "Great! It was a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to do business with you!" Soran said, then gave Whitebeard, Jack's number and ended the call, leaving everyone else in silence.

"Garp!?" Whitebeard shouted, turning his narrowed eyes on Garp, who was smiling happily to him. "Yes?" Garp answered, sounding as innocent as could be. "You planned this, didn't you?!!" Whitebeard stated more than asked. "I don't know what you're talking about!! I just gave her some some business advice, it's not my fault you wanted to do business with her again." Garp refuted, not losing his smile at all.

"But you asked for the number, and not to just have Jack call me again!" Whitebeard said, leaning forward off his seat. "And for that you should be thanking me! What if Jack hangs up again, hmm?!! Plus now you can just talk to him whenever you want instead of paying such a large some of money every time!!" Garp said back, showing a side to him that even Sengoku didn't know he had.

If only they knew, this was coached to him by Soran last night, which is why she charged so much money for the number, knowing they could just bypass her now. Seeing Whitebeard calm down and sit back in his chair, Garp's smile widened. 'This kid is a goldmine!!' He thought joyously. His excitement died down when he watched Whitebeard dial the number Soran had given him, which was understandable considering Jack didn't really give the best news.

There was ringing for a few seconds before they all heard a loud click. "Hey Brat!!" Whitebeard called out in his deep rumbling voice. There was a moment of pause before Jack's voice asked, "Whitebeard? How the hell did you get my number?" Jack didn't sound upset, just curious. "I paid a lot for it!! Your sister is extremely good at getting her way." Whitebeard answered, getting a moment of pause in return.

"How much did she con out of you?" Jack finally asked after a moment of silence. "$1.2 billion!! HAHAHA!!" Garp shouted hysterically. "WHAT?!!!!" Multiple voices shouted through the Transponder Snail. "This is all your fault!!" They heard Jack shout to someone. "Would you rather her be the one scamming or being scammed?" A female voice asked. "Neither!!" Jack shouted back, not sounding too happy.

"*Sigh* So what did you want?" Jack said after a moment of silence. "I wanna know why you put a bounty on one of my sons, and more about your warning." Whitebeard said, getting a small chuckle from Jack. "You mean Teach? He's not your son, he's barely even qualified to be considered a person." Jack said, completely derailing Whitebeard's train of thought.

"What do you mean?" Whitebeard asked, unsure as to where this was going. "Teach is using you, biding his time until he finds what he is looking for. He's also a lot stronger than any of you realize, keeping his true strength hidden until the right moment." Jack said calmly, causing everyone to look towards Teach. Seeing all of their gazes, Teach started sweating and took a step back, but he didn't try to run, that would only confirm what Jack was saying.

"What's this about children and backstabbing coward?" Whitebeard asked, not taking his eyes off Teach. "Well, that part is hard to explain. Technically he hasn't done anything yet, and probably won't anymore. You see, I found something called the DARK-DARK Fruit, and after getting it, I saw a prophesy. Someone by the name of Thatch was suppose to find this fruit, then Teach was suppose to kill him and take the fruit. Teach would then cause a war, which resulted in your death, then he would claim your territories as his own and become an Emperor of the sea, but now he will never be able to do that. Well taking the DARK-DARK Fruit part, the other stuff he could still do." Jack said, causing everyone to become slack-jawed.

The whole time Jack was speaking, Whitebeard was watching Teach intently, and when Jack mentioned the DARK-DARK Fruit, Whitebeard saw Teach's eyes widen in surprise. 'So he's at least right about one thing.' Whitebeard thought sadly. "You got to admit, I'm not wrong about his laugh or his love for those disgusting pies either. Although your laugh is almost as annoying as his, so maybe you don't see that part. Seriously though, what the f.u.c.k is up with that? Do you have some wrong with your throat? I got one of the best doctors in the world, so she could take a look for you, if you want?" Jack asked, breaking the awkward tension in the air.

"There is nothing wrong with the way I laugh!!" Whitebeard stated, defending himself. Around him, Garp and Sengoku were both laughing, and his sons were all snickering at him. Garp even did a mocking impression of Whitebeard's laugh, while some of Whitebeard's crew mimicked both his and Teach's laugh. "You know, now that it's pointed out, it is weird, but who cares?! Being normal is overrated!" Marco proclaimed, getting a few cheers of agreement from everyone around them, which caused Whitebeard to laugh, causing everyone else to laugh.

When all the commotion died down, Whitebeard looked to Teach, who was now carefully observing everyone around him, and making sure to keep everyone in front of him. "Is what he said true? About you looking for this Dark Fruit?" Whitebeard asked Teach. At Whitebeard's question, everyone turned to look at Teach, who pretty much had his back against a wall. If he admitted to looking for the fruit, everyone might wonder if the other things Jack said were true, so he was thinking as fast as he could, hoping to find a way out of this.

Finally he answered, "What?!! That's crazy!!" Teach shouted, his nervousness almost palpable to the stronger people around him. Seeing their doubt, Teach shouted "You would believe a madman you've never met over your own son?!!" Looking right at Whitebeard, Teach was trying his best to sound hurt, and he did get looks of sympathy from many aboard the ship. However, there were some who were doubtful. Whitebeard knew Teach was lying about the Fruit, he could feel it, but the betrayal was unknown to him.

Marco, Whitebeard's 1st Division Commander, was also weary of Teach. Like his father, he was watching Teach with a predator's gaze when he heard Jack mention the part about Teach killing Thatch, and he didn't miss Teach's reaction to the Dark-Dark Fruit, nor how he was looking around for escape routes and keeping everyone in front of him.

Garp and Sengoku stayed seated, not bothering to get themselves entangled in this mess, but they were on guard in case Teach came near them or their subordinates, not that they needed to. No one in their right mind would be stupid enough to mess with these two monsters. Bogard was also at the ready, hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to move in an instant if need be.

"I thought we were Family?!!" Teach cried out, his anger present for all to see. Again no one could say a word. "If this is how it is, I'm out of here!!" Teach shouted, knowing this would be his only way out. After today, everyone would be wary of him, and doing his own thing would be a lot harder to do if he was being monitored. Plus, seeing as how he hadn't done anything yet, there was nothing they could do without them looking like the bad guys. Also it wasn't like Whitebeard would do anything unless he actually did act against one of the other crew members.

"Hold on a minute Teach. I never said I believed him. Let's just get this sorted out." Whitebeard said, trying to settle the situation. As wary as he was, Teach was still his son and he deserved the benefit of the doubt. "No, I've heard enough!! I'm out of here!!" Teach shouted, sounding like a hurt victim, but even to Whitebeard it sounded false. In the end, everyone watched as Teach grabbed his few belongings, then marched off the ship, some trying to calm him down, but it was all pointless.

After Teach had left the ship, silence filled the deck. It was broken shortly after by Garp of course. "I called it!" Garp said, turning to Sengoku with a raised hand, waiting for a high five. Reluctantly, Sengoku did give him a high five, but it was mostly so he was put his hand down. "So whatcha doin, Jack?" Garp asked, ignoring everyone around him.

"Oh you know, eating some delicious food, starting new operations, vacations, and training. Got a lot on my plate lately!" Jack's voice echoed around the ship. "What kind of delicious food?" Garp asked, ignoring the other topics and going straight for the one that excited him the most. "BBQed sea king meat..." Jack went on to list a over a dozen foods that made Garp's mouth water.

"Where are you at?!" Garp asked, praying that it was close by. "Somewhere in the skies above Paradise, but don't worry, we'll meet soon enough. When we do, I'll give you a feast that will make every other meal you have ever had before seem like trash in comparison." Jack said, causing Garp's eyes to shine. "DEAL!! No Take Backs!!" Garp said, acting like a little kid. "So what are you and Sengoku doing with Whitebeard? I thought you guys were, I don't know, enemies!" Jack said, getting a small chuckle from Garp, and a nod of confirmation from Sengoku.

"I wanted to spice up our vacation, so I kidnapped one of Whitebeard's kids and told him to come get him. Next thing I know, I'm hosting a party for him. HAHAHA!!" Garp roared happily, getting an eye roll from both Sengoku and Whitebeard. "Of course you did. Anyway, Sengoku?!" Jack said, getting Sengoku's attention. "What do you want?" Sengoku asked, not sounding as grumpy as he usually does.

"I'm pretty sure I killed a Noble last night when I burned the city down, so I haven't really kept my word. It doesn't sit right with me, so I'll owe ya two favors to make it up, as long as they're within reason of course." Jack said, not sounding apologetic, but then again, no one expected him to. Sengoku's face lit up at the mention of two favors from Jack, making Garp sigh. He didn't like it when Sengoku looked that happy.

"Perfect!! I don't need anything right now, but I'll let ya know if something ever comes up!" Sengoku said, practically skipping in the clouds if his smile was anything to go by. "Well then, if there's nothing else you need from me, I'll be on my way." Jack didn't wait to see if there was anything else they needed, and ended the call immediately.

"What a cheeky brat!" Whitebeard said happily, getting a laugh from both Garp and Sengoku. "Now that you got your kid, scram!" Sengoku said, ending the little moment. "What?" Whitebeard asked with a raised brow. "*SIGH* I'm retired, and having an Emperor here is ruining it! We drank, we laughed, but now I want you all gone. Go do whatever it is you usually do, somewhere else!" Sengoku said, then made his way to the hot springs.

Both Garp and Whitebeard looked at his fleeing figure before Garp said, "You know, I hear hot springs do wonders for old bones like ours." His smile was inviting, but his eyes said they just wanted to make Sengoku miserable. Catching his idea, Whitebeard smiled widely. "Alright boys!! We're gonna spend a few days at the hot springs!!" Whitebeard bellowed, getting cheers all around. Thus began Sengoku's road to madness.

(Jack POV)

After hanging up on Whitebeard, Jack looked to his crew, all of which had different reactions. Luke took it like it was just any other call, Nojiko was smiling , Smoker and Robin were both shocked, Nami didn't know what was going on, and Tashigi was half asleep. "Are we enemies of an Emperor?" Robin asked curiously.

"HA! We are enemies of the Emperor's alright, but it was long before that call!" Luke chimed in, knowing full well that they were going to go up against Kaido and Big Mom for sure, while Shanks and Whitebeard were an unknown.

"I don't think Whitebeard considers us enemies. Plus if he did, it would just mean one more target. I'm not opposed to killing him, but from what I've heard, he's the only thing stopping the rest of the world from taking mermaids and the other fishmen as slaves. We would have to take that into account first, otherwise we will get another situation like the one we're in right now on our hands. We already got enough problems to deal with right now, so let's hold off." Jack said, getting nods of agreement from the others.

"As for you!!" Jack said, pointing a finger at Nami. "I don't want you putting it in Soran's head to scam everyone!!" Jack said, causing Nami to huff in annoyance. "I didn't!! I told her to scam pirates and rich bad guys, and so far she is doing better than I ever thought." Nami actually sounded proud of Soran. "She shouldn't be scamming anyone in general!" Jack said, then left the room, Luke hot on his heels.

They both left the ship and wandered down to where all the slaves were, Jack handing out more food and clothing, giving children some toys to play with, while Luke tagged along. They were both walking in silence when a stick flew through the air and passed right through Jack's body, causing Luke to turn his head, while Jack acted as if nothing happened. "Damn it!! I'll get you!!" Came the voice from the little cat girl, causing Jack to laugh to himself, while Luke stopped in confusion.

"What's going on?" Luke asked curiously after watching the little cat girl wander off. "She wants to join us, but I said she had to hit me before I would let her. What she needs to do is go back to Zou and find her family, if she has any that is." Jack said, his smile falling from his face.

"Hmmm... She at least seems serious about it. You go on, I'm gonna hang around here." Luke said, leaving towards where the little girl went. 'Him and furry things...' Jack thought, then continued making his rounds. It wasn't until some hours later that he finally finished for the day, then headed back to the ship, a tired Chopper and Kureha in tow.

After preparing a nice dinner for everyone, Jack grabbed Nojiko and took her out for the surprise he had planned. It involved music and dancing on clouds, something very few people in the world could do, then some drinks, a shooting contest, a flying race, and other small games, all of which they enjoyed immensely. Their contests mostly involved the loser to drink, and Jack did win most of them, save for the shooting ones.

It was late into the night when they finally returned to the ship, both heading to their room. As they were walking down the hallway to their room, a net dropped from the ceiling, wrapping itself around Nojiko and pinning her to the floor, while passing right through Jack. "What the f.u.c.k?!" Jack shouted in confusion. Looking around, he had a feeling this was Luke's idea of revenge.

With his Haki active, he noticed almost a dozen guns set up, all pointed towards Nojiko. Coating his body in Armement Haki, Jack wrapped his body around her as a shield, and not a second later shots went off. To his surprise, they weren't regular bullets, but rubber bullets, ones he used during his training. All of the shots hit him, then out of no where a small child's figure appeared in the darkness. "It looks like I'm a member of your crew, Captain." The little cat girls voice rang out.

"Wha-" Jack's mind finally processed everything that went on, then he sighed. This had Luke's name written all over it. "Alright, come out!" Jack commanded. Answering his shout, 5 doors opened up revealing Luke, Smoker, Robin, Nami and Tashigi, all smiling broadly at him. "I knew that would work!! All your blood is running to the wrong head, making you slow Cap!" Luke proclaimed happily.

Jack stood up, then pulled the weighted netting off Nojiko, then helped her to her feet. "It was all Luke's idea! He sort of forced us into doing it." Nami said, then went over to hug Nojiko. "Are you okay?" Nami asked, looking her sister over for any signed of injury. "I'm fine! I was just caught off guard." Nojiko said, swaying a little. "Are you sure?!!" Nami asked, noticing the sway. "She might have had a few too many drinks..." Jack said, leaving it at that.

"HAHAHA!! Dancing on clouds is amazing!! You should try it, Sis!!" Nojiko said, sounding as if it was the funniest thing in the world. "We should get you to bed." Nami said, smiling at her drunk sister.

"I do hope whatever Luke has on you was worth it, because now you all are in for the training of a lifetime!" Jack said, shooting everyone a vicious smile that sent chills down their spines. Looking down to the cat girl, Jack asked, "What's your name?" The little cat girl smirked as she answered, "My name is Selene. It's good that you accept me as part of your crew, and I look forward to training with you."

Luke walked beside her and pat her head softly as he said, "You really shouldn't. Anyway, take any of those rooms." Luke pointed to the empty rooms in which she could choose, then Nami showed her which bathroom was for the girls. "Get some sleep, kids. Tomorrow is gonna be a busy day!" Jack said, his voice laced with promises of revenge as he picked up Nojiko and carried her into their room.

"Nice going, Luke! Now look what you got us into!" Tashigi admonished, glaring at the man. "Oh shut it! You all knew this was a big possibility. Besides, you chose to do this of your own free will." Luke said back, still smiling at them. "Yeah, yeah! Now give it to me!" Nami said, then held her hand out to him.

Luke then proceeded to give all of them a small piece of paper, then went to his room. "Was a training session really worth this?" Robin asked as she held the paper in front of her. Nami looked at her paper and read it.

Blood favor

Any job, anytime, anywhere. (Luke's Thumb Print in blood)

Reading the small simple scrap of paper, Nami held it close to her. Looking over to Robin she said "Totally!!"
