Overlord: Blue Citadel Alternate

Chapter 28 - 『Carnewall』

Under the direction of Silva, Daniki the giant Preying Mantis and about over a hundred members of the Honor Guard, a wide girthed trench was being dug up along the perimeter of the Carne Village, with just enough room to expand the fields.

At the same time, a portal opened up in the center of the village where many of the residence were standing in wait. Watching the monster and its 'minions' as they saw them, work on the trench for the wall.

"What's going on now!?" One of the women shouted as she placed her hands on her head in agita, it was clear they weren't used to portals opening up all over the place. "More people!?"

That's when Jack, Enri, Nemu and Sir Edmund appeared stepping out of the portal which zipped closed behind them without any further sounds.

"What's with the shouting, Mi'Lady?" Edmund stuck his pinky in his ear and twisted it around. He was covered in sweat and his hair was matted to his head.

It was as if half of the single women present were going to swoon at his appearance. Out of all of the soldiers here, he was the only one without a helmet on, that and he looked relatively normal compared to those dressed in victorian wares.

"N-no nothing's wrong..." The woman who had just been panicking seemed to have calmed down, eying the man in black light plate armor.

Jack's eyes narrowed on the woman for a few seconds before he shook his head slightly.

Enri stood there with Nemu's hand in her own, smiling to herself as she felt the eyes of everyone in the village on her. They had been used to her wearing the red and yellow, now she was dressed in white and blue, and her clothes were several times higher in quality than before.

Oddly enough, those were the colors of the Blue Citadel.

Nemu smiled, leaning into her sister's side for her attention and warmth, as well as to feel the softness of her new clothes. Her eyes drifted towards Jack, curious, until she narrowed her eyes off in the distance towards the giant insect.

"Whoa! Is that the giant bug?" She pointed with wide reddish brown eyes, seemingly excited.

"Yes. Daniki," Jack informed her of its name, whether or not he had told her before, didn't seem to matter really. Not to him at least since she didn't forget his name. Or did she? His eyes drifted towards the small child, before looking to the rest of the villagers as well as the refugees who came earlier.

They were in worse case when it came to the strange monster which was moving along the perimeter where the wall was to be built. They were terrified.

"For those who do not know, my name is Jack Graham." He placed a hand on Enri's shoulder lightly before stepping away from her. Taking a gander once more over the crowd which was now forming around him.

"As some of you may know, I am a Dragon," his eyes drifted to the new faces. "Especially those who had a peek into the other room before I shed the form."

Their heads practically raddled as they nodded, a light murmur moving through the crowd.

"I am a leader of the group of beings currently digging a trench around the Village," He gestured towards the monster which could be seen on the horizon. "The project you see, is the beginning of a massive concrete wall that could stop an army in its place."

Looks of skepticism and awe were definitely seen amongst the current audience.

Jack proceeded to take out a metal Scutum shield made from Serviceable Metal and Adamantite. It was a dark alabaster grey. He immediately wedged it into the ground, turning it into a makeshift wall as it stood on its own. "This is the material I plan on using to build the wall in. Adamantite with a Serviceable Metal Alloy composite as reinforcement."

Serviceable Metal was harder than Adamantite. Though he was also looking into using some magical alloy metals in order to further strengthen the wall as he knew Adamantite and Serviceable metal had its own limits.

The Village Smithy came over to the Dragon, looked him over once before turning his attention to the shield. A grin forming over lips as he further inspected the craftsmanship.

"It's quality is superior to the dwarves..." They would know, as the village had a small supply of dwarven rune craft enchanted items for everyday use. One such thing being water faucets for their kitchen sinks.

"No way..." Many of the villagers were in the awe of the moment as one of their own spoke up about the shield being of higher quality than the rare Dwarven items. Though it wasn't magical, nor did it consist of Rune Craft.

The lot of them also came to have a closer inspection in the shield which hardly looked manufactured as it was practically seamless.

"The wall will be over forty feet thick and about just as high. So you can probably even imagine, even the Evil Deities fought by the Thirteen Heroes couldn't break through it." He had no real clue of how strong the deities were, but he had an inkling of an idea that they were much weaker than himself considering who they had been defeated by.

"Why are you building a wall around the Village?" One of the people asked, seemingly wanting to conserve the view that they had of the surrounding area.

"Villages become towns, and towns become Cities. One day, a City may become a Capital." Jack replied as he looked towards the Villager who spoke up to him with the inquiry.

"And! And! And!" Nemu waved one hand in the air as she was jumping beside her sister, who was trying to keep her from being a bean. "Bad people won't be able to attack us again like they did last time!

Jack just narrowed his eyes on the ten year old for a few seconds before shaking his head.

She wasn't wrong, people wouldn't be able to openly attack them from the outside. However that didn't mean if they left the Gate open the enemy couldn't come walking in. It is often a person posing as a visitor who can act as a threat to the entire populace.

"As the Wall is being completed, you will be seeing more Honor Guards soldiers about your village. They're here for your protection," Jack continued to replay the information he wanted them to know through a charismatic voice and common friendly and relative gestures.

In the foreseeable future, he could tell that the sudden development of this Village will draw not only the attention of the Kingdom, but the nations around it.

That and the prisoner which he had taken, would likely draw the Black Scripture right into his hands. Based on the knowledge he had assumed from the Sunlit Scripture's Commander Nigun, they'd send the group in order to rescue the Thousand Leagues Astrologer.

So he was expecting a Divination spell to be used, which would trigger the security system of the entire Guild Base, which would then teleport the medium used directly into the prison as well.

When that happens, he'd have a Miko Princess in his hands, though he surprisingly knew very little about them other than the fact that they were used as mediums.

Their tier level was unknown to him, but he was going to find out soon enough in a day or so, maybe a week. He didn't know how long until they were going to find out that their information analyst was missing.

With the population of Carne Village thoroughly convinced that the wall was for their safety and own benefit, everything seemed to calm down rather quickly. However, everyone's eyes were now on Enri and this time for a different reason other than her new flashy clothes.

The Elder was presumed dead, they needed a new leader, someone who was equipped.

Not only did Enri have a squad of overpowered lizardmen at her command, but she had a relationship of some kind, with the very man who was becoming more and more their beneficiary.

It was clear who the next in line was going to be.

This was when Jack walked away from the group, having foreseen something like this going on. It was one of the reasons why he referred to her as Queen.

He had given her the means to protect the Village and to nurture its population. While he had saved the Village twice, and will continued to save it from the threat of death, it was up to her to have their ears and their minds.

If they believed they needed him to survive, they would serve him without fail. If they were to continue to doubt him in the future, their lives were not guaranteed.

For the time being, he understood their skepticism. He watched from a distance as they crowded around Enri, talking to her.

At first, she wanted to turn it down. She even looked towards Jack for help, only to see him flash her a smile of intent. This was something he wanted from her, and though she often misunderstood the motives and feelings of others, she saw this as plain as day.

Within the next few minutes, she succ.u.mbed to their wishes, which named her the leader of the village.

So as Jack turned on his heel and continued to walk towards where the trench was, he could see the start of construction golems emerging from the forest. They had put down trees and started building the frame for the wall, as well as other utility buildings along the interior of the perimeter.

That's when he could hear the sound of a giant hamster lounging out in the fields under the sun, bathing in the rays as if it were on vacation.

Jack without hesitation, smirked to himself as he used 『Teleportation』to appear standing on its stomach. "Someone seems like they're relaxing," squatting on the hamster's underside, his smug little smirk shifted into a light grin.

"Uwah! You scared me, you did!" The monster flailed its little pink feet about in the air as it rolled about side to side on its back, but he had her pinned.

Jack snickered at the panic, "At ease Alexandria," he c.o.c.ked his head to the side slightly.

"At ease, I am!" The giant hamster rolled onto its feet the moment Jack sprung himself off her stomach and onto the soil beside her. "Do you have a task for me, I wonder."

Jack's eyes danced around the individual for a few seconds before curiously tilting his head to the side. He was beginning to wonder if the Hamster could use 'Seeds of the World Tree' to change its species, or even if it would.

As it were, the creature hardly could be considered a practical or even fathomable mount. If he were to ride this creature into the city, it was likely to be considered a cute joke. Right?

"You are to guard Enri's little sister Nemu from harm should the Village be attacked," his eyes narrowed on the big fluff ball. "Nemu and Enri are your only ViP."

"V...ViP?" The Hamster's jaw slackened as it didn't know the meaning of the word.

"Very Important Persons. They are the only targets that you are to focus on protecting."
