Overlord: Blue Citadel Alternate

Chapter 7 - 「Adventurers」

The next morning wasn't like any other. He felt the warmth of someone next to him, curled up against his c.h.e.s.t. He could feel the slow and steady breathing of another life.

Jack glanced down to see Ninya, her right hand curled up at her chin. She looked so peaceful, even though yesterday she had been tortured. Her friends had died and they were brought back, thanks to him. His eyes just stared down at her. There was no light coming in from outside as the shutters were closed. As he could hear the shifting of plate mail outside the room, his eyes lifted from the girl as he peeked out from beneath the covers.

Two taps from the back of his hand, Momonga stepped into the room and came to a halt as he was met with those two purple eyes in the dark.

Nabe stared at him as well. In the dark she could see the shape of the young woman with him. The room subtly smelled of s.e.x, the scent emanating from the bed and their bodies. "Gross maggots..."

Jack's eyes flickered to the new color which was amongst their clothes. It was the Mythril metal dog tags around their necks. They had been promoted from Copper to a higher rank pretty quickly.

They had killed ogres, massacred some necromancers in a one-sided battle, and obtained recognition for challenging and subduing the Wise King of the Forest. They have outdone many other adventurers in such a short amount of time, one upping those who doubted their prowess just from their equipment.

His eyes trailed down to Ninya who was under the covers. He could feel her arms constricting around him now, subconsciously, stopping him from leaving the bed.

"We've been summoned by the E-Rantel Authorities."

Hearing Momonga say this, he raised a brow. "And why are you telling me this?" Jack wasn't really interested in being involved with the politics of the Fortress City. As he looked at the time, it was the morning, and he was for sure ready to go off and check out that Vampire. Well, that was until he glanced down at Ninya again. "Hmm..."

"I informed them last night that you assassinated the leader and the enforcer of the group that was present last night." Momonga saw this other player was a possible ally and someone he could help in this world. As he had originally sent out a message to find another player, but ultimately found none originally. So he could only assume he appeared last night.

Jack frowned and nodded slowly, "And…?"

The moment he said this, Jack's eyes seemed to glow a bit brighter in an ominous manner. Momonga had his Guardians outside of The Great Tomb of Nazarick? Was he insane?

His arms wrapped around the girl in his arms tightly, causing her to let out a low groan and press into him. Rubbing her forehead against his c.h.e.s.t in the process.

"And they want me at this meeting, which may or may not be involving your Guardian?"

Momon nodded before looking to Nabe, then back to Jack.

"You can't expect me to get involved, can you?" Now that he had an idea of who the Vampire was, he didn't really want to bother with them. It wasn't the challenge he wanted.

Nabe looked over at Momonga from the corner of her eye, before glancing over Jack.

"Precisely," Momonga stated as he stepped forward, "I'd like you to reject the summons."

"Okay?"

"Instead I want you to find the perpetrator."

"She's under the influence of mind control, I want you to find out who it is."

Jack slowly nodded, wondering if this mind control could be used on him. Personally he didn't want to find out. Being under the control of someone else didn't sit well with him.

"You can't expect me to do that without compensation… This obviously isn't a game anymore." Resting his head on top of Ninya's he gave Momonga a dull look.

"Huh. Oh, of course." Momonga took out a small sack of coins and placed it on the nightstand.

His eyes narrowed on the items which he had placed on the nightstand. He could hear it as he moved the bag and as it landed on the stand's surface. He had given him coins?

"That didn't even expand my budget..." He muttered as he had around over a million gold coins from YGGDRASIL in his item box. All he had to do was mint them into the local currency to avoid suspicion which only called for a simple skill in smithing and use of molds.

Momonga wanted him to go off somewhere dangerous just for that meager bit of coinage?

"..." Momonga was impressed that the man didn't seem interested in the coins. At least he wasn't going to risk his life and limb for something without adequate payment. However him being smart, also annoyed him. While he would like to help his fellow player, he would like his fellow player to also be able to help him in times of need.

"Where are the others, Momonga?"

Taking his silence as a hint, "You have my condolences."

Momonga nodded to him and tapped his fingers against the armored plate along his right leg. What could he give this man which would enable him to go off on the task.

He could offer him a place in the Guild? No. Jack already declined in the past and he was sure he wouldn't accept that as payment. If anything he might see it as him trying to consolidate his numbers or being overly sentimental.

Momonga looked over at Nabe who was remaining at his side, keeping her eyes on the man and woman that were in the bed.

"Zolue Solution," Jack stared through the skeleton in armor, suggesting something that he wanted. The reason was due to the fact that Momonga would have an unlimited supply due to having a Guild Base. He could only assume as much as he saw Nabe standing there that it was quite possible the Great Tomb of Nazarick was around here somewhere.

Momonga would've grinned if he wasn't permanently doing so as a skull. For Momonga that kind of item would be inexpensive payment, while it would mean a lot of Jack in the long wrong.

It would ultimately allow Jack to make potions from YGGDRASIL, by binding magic to a potion as he brewed the solution.

"Six metric tons of it," he had more than twelve Infinite Backpacks in his item box which would allow him to carry all of that at once. Considering each backpack carried five hundred kilograms. He only needed to fill those twelve.

Momonga nodded, "That can be done easily. I'm rather surprised you asked for something so inexpensive to myself..." Considering Momonga knew in this world that healing potions weren't red, it wasn't clear to him whether or not Jack knew.

He walked over and slipped his clothes on before glancing to Nabe and Momon. A small grin across his lips as he took out the twelve bags and rested them on the ground for him to collect by the door.

"I have to leave a note," Jack chuckled a little bit before walking over to the nightstand and taking out a piece of parchment. He then passed his hand over the material, using silent magic words began to appear on the parchment.

『 Hey Ninya,

I sincerely regret not being here when you woke up. It seems the Vampire problem is being solved by someone else. I've accepted a Request to check something out for Momon. I should be back by late afternoon, if not, I will be back by tonight for your first lesson. Perhaps I'll be able to make you stronger.

Honestly Yours,

– Jack Cipher. 』

Once he was finished with the written note, he would place it down on top of the rest of her clothes.

Turning to look at Momonga, he quickly noticed they were gone, until they reappeared in the blink of an eye as a gate opened up and they came walking into the room.

His eyes rested on the items which were placed on the ground by Aura and Mare. Both of which passed him some curious glances. Aura had this big smile on her face, she was enjoying whatever she was doing as she hummed along. Mare on the other hand seemed shy, timid, dropping the bags and heading right back into the gate.

"Lady Aura, you have to go back before the human adventurer wakes up," Nabe murmured as she walked over and nudged her.

Rolling her eyes, the Dark Elf would fold her arms behind her head and go marching off towards the Gate in a toy soldier-like fashion.

Momon watched as the Elves vanished along with the gate, then turned towards Jack. "I look forward to learning of what you find. I wish you luck… I'll be dealing with Bloodfallen."

Jack winced slightly as he knew the balance of Momon's build when it came to PvP. He could only imagine how much damage and things he would lose fighting Shalltear if it came down to fighting her.

However if he were to find out what was used to mind control her, perhaps he could use it for himself. He liked the idea of being able to use something capable of taking over the mind of a powerful undead. Especially that Platinum Dragon Lord or any dragon for that matter. Even though he did have a High Dragon cash item in his inventory.

Turning his head to look away from him though, going through Clementine's memory. He was able to ascertain what was used to control the Vampire, even just partially. It was a World Item known as Downfall of Castle and Country. He definitely didn't want to get controlled with that.

Plus the idea of the Country that currently owned it using it to get Momonga under their control, it gave him a bad feeling. Though at the same time, it seemed like the perfect defense or even a deterrent.

Jack didn't say a word about this as he collected the payment into his item box and made his way towards the door of the bedroom. Glancing over at them before his hand reached the knob, "Time to get going," he held the door open for the two to leave.

Respectfully, the two of them left the room as he closed the door behind them.

A brow raised, she noted quickly that she was partially dressed and her eyes snapped to the rest of her clothes where a piece of parchment was sitting. Reaching over to the chair, she plucked it off her things and skimmed over it.

"You.. Could have woken me up," She smiled slightly as she saw truth in the words which were written as well of which was on his face. Slipping out of the bed, she wandered on over to him and pecked him on the cheek. "Come back safe, okay...?"

Reaching out with his hand he c.a.r.e.s.sed her cheek, letting her ease the side of her head into his hand.

"Sure thing, and I'm sorry... But at least you caught me at a good time?"

"Speaking of good time," she gestured towards the clothes which had been put on her in her sleep. "What's with… this?"

"Momon came into the room with Nabe, again. This time I was prepared to dress you beneath the cover of blankets." Jack gave this wide grin as he had dressed her in the dark and ended up being able to pull it off pretty well considering.

Though red in the face from this, she laughed a little, clearly embarrassed. "They didn't see me, right?"

"Not per say." Jack shrugged as he would gently grasp her head and kiss her forehead. "See you soon."

「Greater Teleportation」

And suddenly he was gone from sight. He was no where to be seen within the room and as she peered out the door to the room, he wasn't even out at the bar. Ninya could only assume that he had completely left E-Rantel for this supposed request that her friend Momon had sent him off on.

Letting out a sigh, she would walk over to the chair and grab her pants before pulling them on followed by her tunic and boots. Fastening the belt, pouch and sack around her waist. She was ready to go as she got her staff in hand as she made her way out of the room after slipping the letter into her diary.

Waiting in the Bar area of the Inn was none other than the Swords of Darkness, Peter Lukrut and Dyne, all sitting around a table waiting for them.

"Morning Ninya! How went the night with Sir Jack?" Lukrut actively teased as he leaned on the chair, his arm resting on its backing.

Ninya almost shrunk away until Peter smacked him upside the head. So instead she sat down with her friends and smiled coyly. "It uh… It went well."

"So we heard," Lukrut chuckled only to feel a kick from Dyne at his shin.

Ninya pouted as she furrowed her brows at Lukrut, "So rude."

Peter shook his head with a friendly laugh as he leaned on the table, his elbows resting comfortably to support his chin on the back of his hands that were folded over one another. "So where is the lucky guy anyways? He didn't come out with you?"

"Oh uh..." Ninya's face remained fl.u.s.tered as she made a fake cough, "He had a request. Momon sent him off on a personal request..."

"Momon huh? Jack must be pretty powerful for Momon to send him instead of going himself..."

"I heard that Momon was being summoned by the E-Rantel Authorities to some emergancy meeting regarding a powerful Vampire in the area." Dyne raised his hand slightly as he spoke before looking over Ninya for a moment. "It … Doesn't have anything to do with that, right?"

"I don't think so… He didn't really go into detail. From what I read though, it appears it might be dangerous. He was uncertain about the time he'd be back..." Ninya found herself pouting again, kinda disappointed that she didn't get to spend the beginning middle and end of the day all with him.

"Well, he isn't an adventurer, and in addition to that he was given a request by that said adventurer... He could be a worker, so the Guild might not really like him being around here."

"Actually, he was supposed to go to the emergency meeting." Brita interjected as she abruptly joined the group as she pulled a chair over to join them. She seemed quite a bit more cheery now that he had removed those painful memories from her mind. Or at least altered them so they didn't effect her as much as before. Considering she couldn't sleep before.

"Oh hey Brita," Ninya smiled seeing her lively today. It appeared whatever Jack had done to her with those magic spells last night had done the trick. "I see you finally got some sleep."

"It's all thanks to that guy you came in with last night," Brita smiled cheekily.

Ninya nodded slightly and the others all raised their brows at this, curious of what happened.

"This Jack guy you guys are talking about helped me out last night.. I asked for something that might help me sleep since I haven't slept since the Vampire attack… Instead he offered to help me sleep using magic." Brita couldn't help but continue to smile at this. In a way she saw the guy as her hero. She admired him for his help and wanted to thank him now that she was awake. However that didn't seem like it was going to happen, considering he had already left.

"He said he'll be back either late afternoon or later tonight," Ninya informed the woman as she leaned back comfortably in the chair. Wincing slightly from a vague soreness between the legs.

Brita nodded, "Thanks friend. So what're you guys planning on doing today anyway?"

"Well… It seems we've gotten another escort request from Nphirea Bareare, we'll be helping him and his Grandmother move to Carne Village."

Brita blinked a few times hearing Peter speak of the village, "I was actually thinking of moving there myself. Other than recent events, they seem to need some hands to defend the frontier."

"You're welcome to come with us!" Lukrut would burst with his arms out over his head, putting his feet up on the table. "We survi--" He was cut off when Peter elbowed him in the gut, causing him to plant his table on the tabletop. "Okay..." He'd groan out, toning it down.

Ninya and Brita both smirked and shook their heads. "When do we get going?"

"In a few hours, lets collect some supplies before heading out." Peter informed the crew before standing up, checking his personal coin cache in his pouches before looking to the others. "Ready?"
