Overlord: Blue Citadel Alternate

Chapter 9 - 「Crossed」

Jack had chosen to walk of all things to get back over into the territory of Re-Estize Kingdom. He enjoyed the green fields, the mountains and the trees. Everything around him made him feel warm. Even though he had just killed off a number of people and stole another artifact from the Slane Theocracy. He could only let out a light sigh.

He was beginning to imagine himself walking side by side with Ninya on this way. Part of him wanted to just steal her away from whatever she was doing to bring her here.

His tongue poked from his lips before he stopped in his tracks and glanced behind himself. He had put a small distance between him and the scene of death. Though there was very little left after he had taken what had worth.

"Hm..."

His eyes would rest on a small form coming his way. It was moving slowly, not quickly. It didn't alarm him all that much until she was within range of his identification magic.

A brow raised seeing a scythe in the person's possession and two toned hair.

"The extra-seat..." He muttered quietly to himself as he would turn away from her, his back to the woman. Confidence had nothing to do with this matter, as he took up a quick paced walk.

He continued to take in the view. The birds overhead and the sunshine on his cheek to the west. He'd imagine he was home again even though it wasn't all that much. It was an empty home. Pictures of his sister and parents everywhere.

Jack had wanted to build a family at one point and saw buying a house in Japan as an investment. It never happened though, he never met someone at a bar, at a social event at work. Shutting himself away into the world of video games didn't help that much either though.

Scratching the side of his head, he would go back to thinking of the one person who he had already slept with. The one person who he saved and knew what his character, and by extension himself, was.

"Maybe I'll surprise her with something..." His eyes traced his surroundings before bending forward to pick up a coin that belonged to the Slane Theocracy that happened to be at his foot.

The moment he bent over though, a heavy blade of a scythe passed over. Whooshing and whistling as it cut through the air. When he stood back up, he glanced around before looking down on the half-elven girl who was standing there before him.

She had this crooked grin across her face as she would lunge with the weapon out to the side. She swung and he vanished once it was within a millimeter of her blade. "Eh!?"

This kick sent him sliding through the dirt, dust coming up from beneath his boots. A frown across his lips as he had mostly deflected it with his hand. There was a clear print of the bottom of her shoe on his palm. "It's not very nice to kick someone you don't know, Zetsumei."

"Oh…? Heh, you know who I am." She wore this pleasant smile on her face, that widened a little bit too much for comfort. Her heterochromia black and white eyes followed him as he started to walk in a semi-circle around her.

"Do you know who I am?" Jack asked as he watched her match his movements. Walking parallel to him a few meters away.

"No, I don't. I was informed by the cardinals that my colleagues needed reinforcements against an unknown assailant who was attacking them outside the city..." Her eyes squinted at him as she was glaring right through him. "It's quite the pity I didn't arrive in time."

"A pity indeed," Jack uttered with a shake of his head and a grin across his lips. He had a few minutes before he could use devour again and he was unable to use assimilate. While he could use his staff to eliminate her, it wasn't going to benefit him any if the staff itself devoured her. "Now what would make you think it was I?"

"Not just anyone can defeat twelve Black Scripture members and walk away unscathed, like you." She licked her lips excitedly. No one who had been beneath her level had dodged her once out of chance and then took a direct kick and kept their full functionality in their arm after blocking it.

"Are you sure you won't become like them?"

Zetsumei swayed slightly with her scythe at the ready. She was feeling like she was on fire. Her nerves were ecstatic, she wanted to bite into him right there and then. She wanted to see if he was a match for her. If he could possibly defeat her… She m.o.a.n.e.d lowly at the prospect of a powerful husband and an even more powerful child.

That's when she charged forward, leaping into the air and dragging the blade down on top of him.

She'd rag doll across the grass for a few feet before maneuvering and getting back to her feet. Breathing heavy, panting, she brought herself to a skidding stop and charged after him again. The scythe at her side as she went to swing it repetitively.

A combination of side stepping to one side and then to the other. He ducked under the blade when she tried stabbing him, slashing him and even trying to kick him again.

His Flash Step enhanced movements kept him entirely out of her range of attacks. Every attempt was met with failure and she was only running out of stamina rather than gaining more and more.

He could only grin at this, as he wasn't human, nor amongst those considered living. He kept moving without a problem. Then when her movements began to slow down, he would make several steps away from her and roll his neck with his arms crossed.

He was definitely making it the message that she couldn't handle him. He was far too powerful for her.

"You know, you're so much more powerful than the Captain," Jack snickered as she was charging after him again. She however didn't seem at all surprised by what Jack said. If anything she didn't care. To her, he was pointing out the obvious as that was the reason she had the extra-seat and was essentially a state secret from the rest of the country.

As she hooked him in the side with the scythe, she send him rag dolling similar to how she had been before. Except he bounced like a bowling pin, head first, legs and then soon enough he was summersaulting before he pushed himself off the ground and did a flip in the air. Within seconds he was on his feet again and slipping his staff into his inventory.

Zesshi paused seeing him put the item away into the item box. It was in this moment that she found that she was indeed fighting a God, a player. It made sense that he'd be able to handle a group of descendants. He was already far more powerful than anyone naturally born here!

"Guess I'll have to get a bit more serious..." Jack uttered as he drew back his left leg and arm, while bringing forward his right arm with a forearm held at a high angle.

Appearing beside her he brought his right leg up, his shin making contact with the cross shaped war scythe in her possession.

She blocked admirably, sliding along in the grass. He did this repetitively, not letting her make an independent move. Whenever she would attempt to make a strike at him, she felt a shallow blow to one of her pressure points.

Within several minutes she was coughing and having a hard time holding the weapon. It wasn't because she was fatigued either. He had repetitively been abusing her pressure points. Especially the ones that would effect her breathing and ability to grip. When one fights, breathing is everything as is the grip of one's weapon.

He was just too fast for her as he appeared and disappeared at will. It was as if he was wasting mana to just teleport several inches from one position to another.

"Ehehe… How do you have so much mana?" She'd laugh before coughing again. "If you defeat me, our child will be so… So powerful."

Jack froze for a moment when she spoke of having a child with him. He raised a brow, "What?"

Seemingly unfazed by her own physical condition, she grinned widely at him like a ferocious predator.

"Oh, I get it. You're m.a.s.o.c.h.i.s.t," he pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head. "If you're getting off on me hurting you, I think we should stop right here."

"Pft! Hahahaahah! You're pretty funny, pity I'll be shoving this scythe o' mine down your throat!" It was clear she was getting turned on by this fight. No matter what she tried, he just dodged. "Stop moving and take a hit already!"

Jack remained smiling however even as his HP was beginning to drain slowly as in truth, the tip was only poking him in the sternum.

The ground began to crack beneath her.

"Are your loyalties truly to the Slane Theocracy?"

Even now as he hung by the end of her pole arm, he had this casual tone to his voice. She could only stare up at him as no blood dripped upon her face. That was until she noticed as the sun rested upon him, his skin turned transparent revealing his skeletal form and shining enigmatic eyes.

He looked like death itself if it were alive.

"They will give me what I want, and when that is finished, I will do as I please."

"You are the last member of the Black Scripture. While there may be other God-kin and those powerful enough to be one, they will never measure up to those whose lives I've taken." Jack snickered as he vanished from the end of the weapon and rematerialized standing beside her.

Sesshi stood there, staring up at the man who was now looking straight down at her. His two fingers were at her throat and blood was traveling down along her throat. With a single move, she would be dead. Had he been messing with her the entire time? Even with her super strength!?

"You know that they won't let you leave."

"Do you admit defeat?"

The half elf glared over at him from the corner of her eye, quickly noting there was no hole in his clothes. Her weapon hadn't even torn through his outfit. It must be a very high class item. Though she could have sworn that she had impaled him. It felt like she had done so, unless that was some sort of illusion that tricked all of her senses?

"Hm?"

"I admit defeat..." Zesshi dropped the weapon, but as she went to kick it back up to use it as an axe to attack him once more. It vanished before she could manage to do so.

In his hand was the weapon gifted to her, the cross shaped war scythe. And like everything he had taken from the dead and consumed, he shifted it right into the item box of his.

Zesshi's eye twitched slightly as his hand was firmly planted on her head.

"Good day to you… Maybe one day I'll come back, so 「Sleep」and wait for me, okay?" With that her eyes began to get heavy and her mind only wanted to do one thing, sleep.

"I will catch you..." She uttered as the spell he had cast on her was kicking in quickly, "I will make you marry me… You.. Bast… I… Ma...sur.. it.." Swaying side to side the half elf would stumble to the side before planting the side of her head into the tall grass off a ways from the path they had fought off of.

Looking to the sky, it was already well past the late afternoon. It became evident he had been fighting her for hours without noticing. Though losing track of time for him wasn't necessarily something new.

「Greater Teleportation」

Appearing in the lobby of the Inn which he had stayed at the night before, his eyes traced over those whom were at the tables. He didn't see the Swords of Darkness.

Blinking a few times, he didn't see Brita either. Walking towards the back where their room was, he opened the door and peered inside. Ninya's staff wasn't in there, none of her things were there.

"Hm.. Maybe they took a job?" He walked away from the door and waltzed on outside and glanced up and down the street. They didn't seem anywhere nearby. Even as he moved onto the rooftops and gazed down into the crowds in the market place, he didn't see anyone he knew.

So when he peered into the Magic Guild, he was rather surprised not to see Ninya in here studying.

He had told her he would be back in the late side of the afternoon. Yet she was no where to be seen.

Wearing a slight frown across his face, one could say he was worried and the other side was calm. She could just be doing a job with the other members of her group. There was no reason to worry, right?

His mind trailed back to the meaningless death of the group at the hands of a Death Cult. He didn't want them to die again without a meaning. That was just depressing.

"Guess I'll report to Momonga then," Jack rested his arms behind his head as he walked along the stone slap laid streets of the Fortress City.

「Message」

"Hey Momon, you there?"

"Uh. Yes, I'm here. Is there something you need?"

"I found out who the individuals are who used mind control on Bloodfallen," he chuckled lightly at this before looking to the sky. Remembering the little fight he had moments ago which had lasted hours without him really noticing the time had been passing by quickly.

"Oh?"

"It was the Slane Theocracy, I had a short run in with them and had to retreat. They have world items in their arsenal, fair warning..." He rolled his shoulders slightly.

"World Items..." Momonga didn't seem surprised now that he already knew that one had been used on Shalltear after having to kill her and later resurrect her.

"If they have Longinus, we'll be in big trouble. Resurrection items should be kept on hand."

"Sounds reasonable to believe, as World Items seemed to have been brought from YGGDRASIL into this New World. It has been beneficial working with you. I can see us working together again in the future. For the time being, I'll be continually sharing our supply of Zolue Solution with Carne Village, So if you ever need more, stop by and talk with Nphirea."

"Speaking of Nphirea… Have you seen Ninya anywhere, or the Swords of Darkness?"

"Uuuh Oh… No, no I haven't."

"Hm… Well consider my mission complete. I'll be checking out now."

"Understood."

Jack walked over to the customs at the Eastern Gate of the City and approached the nearest Guard. "Have you seen four silver ranked adventurers recently? Their names are Ninya, Lukrut, Dyne and Peter. They call themselves the Swords of Darkness."

"They headed out this morning..." The Guard said tiredly looking over at him. It appears he was on a double shift, covering for someone.

"Where'd they go?" Jack blinked a few times before lulling his head to the side.

"From what I heard of their conversation as they were leaving, was that they were going to Carne Village, escorting some folk there I believe."

"..." Jack looked off in the distance before walking passed the guard and exiting the City. The moment he stepped onto the soil outside the walls, he vanished from sight using teleportation.
