Paying The Price

Evelyn was surprised to get a call from Diana. "Diana, are you back?" she asked eagerly.

"Yes.....am back, we're on our way home now and I just wanted to inform you first , I'll send you the address." Diana replied in a low voice.

"Okay, am on my way." Then she hanged up.

By the coast side, there a five star restaurant was cited, it was among the many enterprises owned by the Grands, founded for more than seventy years now it was a place only the wealthy would go to purchase any of their delicacies. De'Grand had an ancient theme, decorated in a cozy, simple yet elegant pattern. Inside Mrs Evelyn Grand was having lunch with some of close friends when she got the call from Diana, hastily she stood up ready to leave while apologizing "Am so sorry I have to go, something came up."

"Was that Diana, is she back?" Mrs Charlie Daniel asked. The Grands Daniels and Linemans were acquintance for more than a century, they and some few other families were historical in Titan city.

Mrs Pamela Lineman looked at Evelyn anxiously, obviously wanting to know too. Pamela was Fiona's mother, she was annoyed with the fact that her daughter's position as Mrs Grand was stolen by a mere orphan. 'Why was she back?' she thought.

"Yes she is, she just arrived. I have to meet her. Please enjoy your meal." Evelyn answered while turning to leave.

She left immediately and within seconds her silhouette could not be seen. Charlie signed "I thought she would never come back, just leaving her marriage like that, she didn't even think it through. I wonder how she is now."

"She's probably broke and needs money why else would she come back, just coming and going as she pleases, she must really think highly of herself. Of course as expected of one with no home training." Pamela said in disgust.

Charlie took a sip of her water without saying anything, she wasn't oblivious of the hate Pamela had for Diana. For she had always raised her daughter for the position of Mrs Grand but her hopes and dreams were shattered in the engagement party when Diana's name was mentioned instead of Fiona's. 'Well she's still Mrs Grand and has the right to ask for her dues.' Mrs Daniel though but didn't voice it out.

At the same time in the headquarter of the Grand corporation, an 80-high floor office building with an exterior architecture and internal furniture that emitted extravagant opulence located at the center of the city, the air in the 65th floor was becoming ticker each moment as the company's review meeting was held. No one dare make a sound as the marketing director gave his account, beads of sweat could be clearly seen on his face as his hand wobble in fear.

Wayne Grand wore a black tailored suit, he was extremely handsome with deep blue eyes, pointed nose and s.e.xy thin lips he had an indifferent look on his face but his noble aura was firm and dangerous making it difficult for the executives to breathe.

But no one felt the impact more than his assistant Felix Roger and his brother Ronin Grand, who were sitting at his left and right side. Ronin couldn't help but sign inside. 'When was the last time we had a normal meeting? Oh yeah four years ago, before Diana....sign.' Mr Donald Pairs was still in a piteous state while giving his report when Felix received a message from the airport. He was slightly startled, stealing a glance of Wayne he contemplated on if he should inform him about the information now and how he would do so. After weighing the pros and cons, he audaciously leaned towards Wayne and whispered in his ears.

The executives were not sure what was said but before they could ponder over his slight face reaction. "Meeting adjourned, dismiss." His cold voice sounded.They rapidly package up their things and dashed out like their death penalty had been suspended.

Wayne leaned back on his chair lost in thoughts. Ronin looked at Felix as if saying 'What happened.' Felix replied with his eyes 'Liberty has arrived.' Ronin immediately grabbed the meaning of his look, then turned to Wayne and asked "Is she back? Maybe she finally misses you and wants to get back together. Are you going to meet her now?" He asked anxiously but Wayne kept a straight face as though he didn't hear a word said. Ronin knew better than to persist so he sealed his lips but his eyes couldn't hide the joy he had. 'Great! she's back.'

What is love? Wayne had no idea. From a young age he had lived with his grandfather and accompanied him in the underworld, being part of them his actions and deeds were pernicious. His parents gave him money but no love, his grandfather gave him discipline but not guidance, he had always lived in a ball of depression always suppressing his emotions and keeping his feelings to himself. Now how could he love. Wayne ruled the underworld after the demise of his grandfather at the age of 19, still having dealing with the secret government, working on countless missions to save his country sometimes even the world, he was a villain and also a hero. Now 31 he was the peak of his career as he had conquered almost the whole country as the strongest heir of the Grands family.

Wayne wasn't sure when it started but he had always enjoyed Diana's company although they only met on few events, he was especially attracted by her beautiful laugh. It would make a rare smile appear on his face as it melted his cold heart. Wayne was sure he wanted her by his side and didn't hesitate to make her his', having her by his side was what he wanted. His opinion of what a woman d.e.s.i.r.es was money and every time she asked for his attention, he would often mistake it as performing his duties on bed.

Four years ago, he overheard Fiona threaten Diana fiercely, his indignation flared up instantly, this may not be the first time he had witnessed Diana being bullied but he had never seen her so vulnerable. By ordering for Fiona's Fashion studio to be damaged, he felt defending her would make her happy, but who knew she would leave at the end.

He once heard the saying that 'The more you hold on to something the more it slips away.' So he did but the problem is, will she ever come back to him.
