Peculiar Children

Chapter 5 - Unstable

(This chapter has two POVs)

Aisha's POV

I wander deeper and deeper into the forest, my footprints being forgotten behind me. The shade from the trees feels good, I'm not being scorched by the sun. My brothers like it hot, but I like it cool.

I step on a few twigs here and there, I hear the birds above me singing. During the war, we were driven into the cursed woods and forced to live there. I miss it sometimes, oddly enough, so I come out to the woods to refresh my memories.

I stop at what looks like a sign, but the paint smudged off. If this is here, than maybe a building or cabin is around here somewhere..?

Kaleb's POV

I hate fighting with Armond, I hate bickering all together, but.. I want to stick up for Aisha sometimes.

I should really go check on her. I trot up to her room and knock on the door. "Aisha? You in there?"

No answer. "Aisha, ik you're mad at Armond but I made sure that he won't do it again." No answer.

"Aisha?" I turn the doorknob, and look around her room. "Aisha, stop hiding, it's childish." No answer.

Starting to get worried, I start checking the whole house. But I couldn't find her anywhere. "Aisha?!" I ran outside and spotted Armond.

"Armond! Where's Aisha?" I asked.

"I don't know, your her babysitter why don't you know?" He hissed at me.

"Because she's missing!" I exhaled frantically. Then Armond made a face I've never seen before.

"I think I might know where she went, but you owe me a candy bar!"

"Fine! It's a deal! Just lead the way!" Armond took off towards the woods, me close behind. I was starting to feel uneasy. We tried through the forest, before we came to a halt.

"Armond, look. These are her footprints." I pointed to the dirt. We looked at each other and ran after the trail, and we passed a sign.

About a minute later we saw Aisha on a unsteady looking building. It had a bridge that went over a deep looking creak , it looked like it was about to fall apart, and Aisha was crossing it.

"AISHA! GET BACK HERE!" I shouted. I got her attention, and I ran up towards her.

"Aisha don't move I'm coming!" I shouted again. The wood beneath my feet creeked. I continued to take a few steps forwards her. My weigh made it harder to get to her.

Just when I was about to get to her, the boards beneath her fell through.

"No!" I dive and barely caught her hand. I dug my tail into the boards for a firm hold.

"Kaleb...!!!!!" Aisha screamed. I was losing a grip on her hand.

I grabbed her with both hands, mustered all the strength I could, and threw my little sister into Armond's arms.

The boards beneath me collapsed. I smiled as I looked at the two of them. Then there was a sharp pain everywhere. And a rock was pierced through my c.h.e.s.t .

I was underwater, and I was impaled.
