Pirates For The Mainland

Chapter 2 - Key - 2

"The sea is kind today," the captain's right hand said, her voice small and girlish. "We should just continue on to the islands."

Joining the captain with her advice was Dart. A young woman of similar short stature and build, her contrasts to the captain were instead her pale skin and calm attitude. Dart covered herself with a knee-length navy blue coat that was always closed and a high collar that she could hide her face behind in battle. She kept her brown hair short enough to avoid her shoulders and protected her head with a black cavalier hat.

"The boat is fine enough to let us stop and eat," Nog replied, her voice small but velvety. "Are we sure that the engine hasn't been damaged to all Hell?"

"The engine is fine, save for a few bumps and bends," Dart answered. "The crew did a fine job repairing the leaks before they were snatched up like discarded sweets."

"Good then," Nog said. "You and Neko make sure that she is properly secured and then meet me at the Wet Whistle. We'll have some drinks and fill our bellies with warm food."

"What should I tell the dock about our repairs?" Dart asked.

"Tell them not to f.u.c.k.i.n.g touch my ship," Nog answered.

The angry captain stepped off the side of the ship and landed onto the dock with an audible thud of her black boots. The men that were coming with the boarding ramp halted for a moment when they saw her but Nog gestured for them to continue. After another look at the wrecked hull of her ship, the captain sighed and continued into town. Dart watched Nog leave before letting out a small yawn.

"Neko!" Dart called out. "I know you can hear me down there with all the new holes! Come on up! We're going to eat!"

Climbing up through the damage to the main deck, a man of suntanned skin and muscle dusted himself off next to Dart. Where Dart was the captain's right hand, Neko was the left. The man was nothing but brute strength, often using his shirtless, scarred body to intimidate enemies into submission. The man of fewer words stood at least a foot taller than the little ladies of the Red Jewel with only his black boots and trousers. On occasion the girls had tried to get Neko to at least wear a hat but he always refused, leaving his short hair always a mess.

"We're just supposed to make sure she's tied up pretty and then meet up with the captain," Dart explained. "We all good downstairs?"

"Yeah," Neko said, his voice deep and monotone. "Besides the holes."

"You know what I mean, smart-ass," Dart replied.
