Ch5 - Fever

When Shu Jin woke up in the morning, Shu Zhaoyuan was already gone again.

Shu Jin has been accustomed to this kind of life since he was young. Back and forth, a total of three housekeeping aunts were recruited to take care of him at home. Auntie asked for leave these days, so Shu Jin is at home alone. So when he got up and heard a noise downstairs, his first reaction was that Puffs was making trouble again.

“Puffs!”

Shu Jin came downstairs sleepily in his pajamas and was stunned when he saw the situation in the living room.

Sheng Xinghe was sitting on the carpet with his back facing him, playing with the dog.

He only fell asleep almost early in the morning. When Shu Jing woke up, he had forgotten that there was more than one person in the house. At this time, he put his expression away and walked towards the kitchen with a straight face.

When passing by Sheng Xinghe, the other party turned his head and said to him: “Morning.”

Shu Jin ignored him, then called out “Puff” and went on to the kitchen.

He took out the milk from the refrigerator, and deliberately closed the refrigerator door very heavily so that the people outside could hear it clearly, and then found a cup and poured milk into it.

It wasn’t until he put the milk in the microwave that he realized that something was missing—— at this time in the past, Puffs would always hang around his feet with its tongue out, but this time it didn’t follow him in.

This is too unusual.

Shu Jin returned to the living room and saw that Puffs was sitting in front of Sheng Xinghe obediently. It was staring at Sheng Xinghe intently, with a look of flattery.

Puffs is a five-year-old Samoyed, all white and very smart and sticky.

Shu Jin’s mother bought it for him when his parents were not yet divorced.

Shu Jin called out “Puffs” twice. This time Puffs finally had a reaction, and ran in front of him, it turned around twice and sniffed. As soon as Shu Jin’s hand touched its head twice, it ran back to Sheng Xinghe.

Even the dog has changed.

Shu Jin’s hand was left empty, and his eyes couldn’t help getting hot.

He walked over without saying a word and snatched away the snack bag in Sheng Xinghe’s hand.

“Don’t give it anything to eat!” Shu Jin shouted, “It hasn’t eaten dog food yet, it’s not allowed to eat snacks first!”

As he stood, Sheng Xinghe looked up at him.

There was no emotion in the young man’s gray eyeball, and it was even more lackluster, but his other eye was extremely clear, and the expression in his eye was extremely clean.

Sheng Xinghe said: “I have fed it dog food.”

Now the dog was circling around Shu Jin.

But Shu Jin was not happy. The dog food was in the cabinet, how could Sheng Xinghe find it? He asked very loudly: “Why are you rummaging through other people’s homes! Have some manners!”

Sheng Xinghe was not angry when he yelled at him, he just said: “Uncle left in the morning, he said that he wanted you to sleep more, so he asked me to help feed the dog.”

Shu Jin was speechless.

He could only bite his lip and stand there, not knowing what to do next.

“You don’t have to worry, I’m not uncle’s illegitimate son, we are not related by blood.” Then Sheng Xinghe said, “If me being here will make you uncomfortable, I apologize to you. I’m sorry. I will apply to live on campus when the school starts.”

Puffs started sniffing Sheng Xinghe’s face and kept wagging his tail.

Sheng Xinghe dodged, then reached out and gently stroked two handfuls of Puffs’ fur.

Shu Jin put the Puffs’ snack bag aside, then turned back to the kitchen.

He is not an uneducated person, instead he has always been polite and sensible.

From last night’s meeting to the inexplicable early morning tantrum just now, he disliked this about himself.

He slowly loosen his clenched teeth, then Shu Jin closed his eyes and exhaled.

What did Sheng Xinghe do wrong? He is just a poor disabled person.

His mother was also very supportive towards his father’s support before, and she also brought Shu Jin personally to the shopping mall to select new year goods for Sheng Xinghe’s family. From his distant memory, Shu Jin, who was in elementary school, wrote a card to Sheng Xinghe at the request of his father, wishing Sheng Xinghe a smooth exam and a better grade.

He shouldn’t be like this.

Sheng Xinghe couldn’t take anything away from him at all.

Sheng Xinghe stopped playing with Puffs and stopped feeding it with snacks. When he was about to stand up and return to his room, Shu Jin came out of the kitchen.

“Have you eaten breakfast?”

Shu Jin’s eyes are red and his hair is messy.

He could see that he tried his best to control his voice, but he could still hear a little trembling in it.

Sheng Xinghe looked at him.

Shu Jin suddenly felt a strong sense of shame, and said stiffly: “If you haven’t eaten yet, I’ll prepare a portion for you, don’t forget it.”

Sheng Xinghe said: “Okay, thank you.”

Shu Jin said “um”, then turned his head and left.

He prepared another fresh milk and put it into the microwave oven. He found two large bowls from the cupboard, then took out the oatmeal from the wall cupboard, and poured it into the bowl.

Seeing Sheng Xinghe also come in, his face heated up and spoke quickly: “Let me say this first,  I can’t do anything fancy. For breakfast, it’s only milk soaked cereal. Auntie has asked for leave and will be back the day after tomorrow. She will do better by then.”

Having said that, he had nothing else to say, “Are you allergic to oatmeal?”

Sheng Xinghe said: “Not allergic.”

Then Shu Jin added meaninglessly: “I have a classmate who is allergic to wheat or something.”

The two sat in front of a high table and finished eating their cereal.

Silence permeated without any word.

Shu Jin put down his spoon and heard Sheng Xinghe ask: “Haven’t you eaten enough?”

Shu Jin didn’t care: “En, order take-out at noon.”

After going back and forth, the two are no longer awkward.

Sheng Xinghe then said, “Want to eat an egg, I’ll fry it for you.”

Shu Jin looked at him, and expressed suspicion.

Sheng Xinghe then got up and opened the refrigerator. He took out two eggs out of the cartons filled with eggs, and asked Shu Jin where the pan was.

The child of the poor is in charge of the house early.

Shu Jin thought that this sentence was really right. In fact, it’s not that he doesn’t know how to fry, he’s just lazy, but Sheng Xinghe looks like he’s obviously very good at it.

Under the guidance of Shu Jin, he found the pan and so on. Sheng Xinghe cracked the eggs with one hand while saying: “These eggs were brought back by me and uncle last night. They are native eggs.”

Sheng Xinghe was taller than Shu Jin, so Shu Jin had to get closer to see the pan. He curiously asked: “Your family’s?”

“En.” Sheng Xinghe said, “Grandpa raised more than 20 hens, and he can pick up a lot every day. This was the last batch, and after he died, those chickens were given to neighbors and relatives.”

Shu Jin: “…”

He doesn’t seem to be very good at comforting people.

When the yellow and fragrant omelets was placed on the plate and eaten by Shu Jin, he only vaguely remembered one thing.

Shu Zhaoyuan seems to have said that the eggs in the family have been supplied by Sheng Xinghe’s grandfather all these years. The old man said there is a coming and going, they can’t do anything else for the Shu family, so they will just do a little thing to show their gratitude.

In the morning, Shu Jin had a low fever.

When he woke up, he felt his throat was so dry and he wanted to drink water. He called Sheng Xinghe’s name a few times and got no response, so he got up by himself and went to find water.

The suite was empty, Sheng Xinghe was not there.

The sun was dazzling, and the curtains of the floor-to-ceiling windows were not drawn.

Shu Jin covered his eyes with his hands, and vaguely saw the light blue sea surface outside.

There are also floor-to-ceiling windows like this in the bedroom.

Some ambiguous fragments about the window last night appeared in Shu Jin’s mind, and the pain in his throat hurts even more. He himself thinks that they were too much last night.

And he has to stay here until Monday.

They wouldn’t use these two days to continue to do this kind of thing, right?

Shu Jin thought with hot cheeks.

However, it seems that they have nothing else to do except for this kind of thing.

A few years ago, Shu Jin had imagined what would happen to him after he left Sheng Xinghe. He thought that in a few years, he would have forgotten the other party a long time ago, and would start a new life and meet new people in a certain city like many young people. But in fact, he was working really hard in the direction of this fantasy, and after meeting Sheng Xinghe again, he realized that it was not that he could not meet the right person.

This time it will be even harder to forget.

Shu Jin found ice water from the freezer, unscrewed the cap and drank half the bottle.

His throat is relieved, but his head is even more dizzy.

He took a moment to slow down, then put the water bottle down and went back to bed.

In a daze, Shu Jin heard his phone ringing in the room.

Not having the strength to care, he closed his eyes and went back to sleep, but the sound of ringing constantly rang. The caller seemed to be very patient.

Shu Jin had to turn over and answer the call.

“Still sleeping?”

Sheng Xinghe’s voice came from the other end of the phone.

Shu Jin was a little more awake, and responded: “Well, I got up once, but there wasn’t much going on anyway, so I fell back asleep. Are you out?”

“A little bit of work.” Sheng Xinghe said, “Have you eaten the breakfast prepared for you?”

The door to the room was left open, so Shu Jin just looked out of the room.

Sheng Xinghe seemed to know that he hadn’t eaten yet: “It’s on the dining table.”

Shu Jin followed the instructions and looked over, and saw a dining cup on the dining table.

Sheng Xinghe: “It’s cold. I’ll call the room service to make a new one and send it over.”

Shu Jin said yes.

They then ended the call, as plainly as if they were just acquaintances.

Shu Jin went to open the dining cup and take a look, but did not want to eat. He didn’t have much strength on his body, so he simply slept on the sofa in the living room.

When he opened his eyes again, Sheng Xinghe’s face appeared in front of him, frowning as he took out the thermometer from his mouth, “38.5 degrees.”

“Buy some antipyretic medicine.” The man sat on his side, then turned his head to the person next to him, “Buy another anti-fever patch by the way. I won’t go there in a while, so you can just finish it up.”

“Good, Mr. Sheng.” The female voice said.

Only then did Shu Jin realize that there were more than two of them in the suite, and Sheng Xinghe’s assistant was also there.

Are they finished with work?

Or did they come back halfway?

What would she think of their relationship?

Shu Jin’s mind was like a paste, unable to think.

After the assistant left, he wanted to ask a question, so he opened his mouth to call out “brother” and found that his voice was hard to hear.

Sheng Xinghe leaned over and touched his forehead with his lips, only to respond in a deep voice: “Well, take the medicine before you sleep.”
