Project Overworld

Chapter 18 - Studies

Although the total number of contraption he made during the last two months was not that important, Keith actually studied a lot during this lapse.

Electronic was a difficult notion to apprehend, even within the context of Project Overworld which made crafting a whole lot easier.

However, his auto-regulated furnace as well as his automated drill were proof that he did not lose his time studying for nothing.

Obviously, it was only the beginning of the journey for him.

Every day he became more proficient with various concepts, as well as familiarizing with how the game worked.

The fact that he could do everything by himself, without needing once the aid of anyone, made a huge difference between this world and the real one.

He also did not need to waste much of his time on his natural needs, as his only needed to eat and drink once in a while.

As for the stamina, as long as he did not run for several miles without stopping, there was nothing to worry about.

Overall, he could work without a stop while inside the game. Except when he needed to satisfy his real-world needs.

Also, he could not play as much as he would like to. During the week, he had to attend courses and when he was home he also had to study for the university to not fall behind.

When looking at the possibilities of Project Overworld and the level of knowledge he had to put in to make a simple contraption, his real world studies seemed quite shallow.

Only, it was not something he could brush off that easily because he would still need a diploma to work in the future.

However, Keith was becoming more and more uncertain about what type of work he would like to do. Indeed, the more he created items and machineries inside Project Overworld, the more he felt joyful.

He was currently studying economics at the university, but the jobs he could attend to with an diploma in economics did not seem that interesting to him anymore.

Nonetheless, Keith did not want to think about it yet. Only a year and an half were left until he would finish his studies, and his marks were already quite good. There was no reason to give up now that he was this close to getting a diploma.

Keith was now preparing his next project by collecting some rare resources.

In fact, with all the knowledge he acc.u.mulated in electronics, Keith wanted to design a computer which purpose would be to calculate complex operations

Indeed, Keith wasted time as he developed various craft because he had to relate a huge number of variables such as the size, the energy consumption, etc. If he could store these variables in a computer and make it do the operations instead, he would be saving a lot of time.

- "I'm here for the report, Chief."

- "Good, let me hear it."

- "The West was a huge success, we took down most of Black Raider's buildings. They scattered here and there and won't be posing a problem for some time."

Since the chief of New Dawn, Alan, decided to conquer some land to expand their guild, they managed to grow several folds.

During this time, the guild Pioneers managed to recruit new players as well as developing their armament, nearing the total control over the world spawnpoint. This would have been a huge disaster for the other guilds as Pioneers would have been the only one to benefit from the new influxes of players.

Only, things did not go their way.

Pioneers got attacked from all parts, as the preexisting guilds disputed their supremacy as well as the newbies who formed large guild after the other.

In this encircling situation, The Pioneers had to withdraw from the spawn.

- "Unfortunately, we lost an outpost to Lasting Warcry on the south. We got to inflict some damage in return, but they did deploy almsot their whole army for this battle."

'That is quite disturbing, indeed', Alan thought. 'But well, we could deploy our main force here and send a few squadrons at this spot.'

The fact was, the new influx of players also had a huge impact on smaller guilds like New Dawn.

The area encompassing the world spawnpoint was now a perpetual battlefield.

Even dozens of miles away from the spawn could be found some remnants of war.

From an exploration game to arms race and now to a perpetual battlefield. Project Overworld did change a lot during the past few months.

It was not to the liking of the whole playerbase, but the majority of them were enjoying this medieval madness.

Because of this, the disgruntled players had to exile far away from the spawn in order to get to a peaceful place. Or at least a place where battles had not broken yet.

'Just how much tension do I need to pass through this part?', Keith thought.

To Keith, however, all this agitation was but a past worry that he left inside his previous base.

The only things he had to currently think of were the resources he needed as well as the solutions he had to explore in his projects.

Moreover, if battles and such problems extended his way, he thought that it would not be so much of an hassle.

Even after two months the distance between these problematic players and himself did not shorten that much. He did travel for hundreds of miles after all.

However, he knew it would only be a matter of time before he would have to travel again.

Only, by this time, his defenses should be able to get rid of any intruders.

If he was not already gone from this place, though.
