Project Overworld

Chapter 5 - Iron Age

The depths of the pit were larger than he actually thought.

Keith had explored for a full hour and he did really great discovers along the way. He found more copper and a metal he didn't see up until now, silver.

But most importantly, he had found an large vein of coal. It will prove very useful for him and particularly in the future when he will need energy to power machines.

For now, it will help a lot in metal refinement.

Keith didn't pay attention, but it was almost time for Amber to come and collect the first product of their treaty. However he forgot to craft something for her, and he didn't know what to prepare.

'Actually, this spear is getting a bit old, I'll just give it to her.'

The light of the surface dazzled him as he got back to the top of his cave.

Amber was already here, and she was inspecting every nook and cranny of his base with a thorough curiosity.

'Well, I guess I will need to hide my latest discoveries.' Keith thought while sighing.

- "Hi."

Amber jumped out of surprise and quickly stopped her investigation.

- "Oh, hey!"

Keith didn't want to lose any second talking to this girl, so he threw the spear to her :

- "Here, take this. It's a spear made out of sticks, grass rope and a flint as the tip."

- "You're pretty straight-forward, I like it. I came here with a few resources for you, it's the same as the other day : stone, wood and some other plants. Do you have any preferences from now on? I will try to get it for you."

- "Well, I would really like food. It's inconvenient for me to walk half a mile to find something to eat. As for materials, wood and plants are fine, but I don't think I need any more stone.

- "Yeah, I can see that." She replied while looking at the stack of stone he put in a corner of his base. "Okay, I think that's everything I came here for today. By the way, as it's a bit compelling for me to come here every in-game days I've decided to repel my comings by another in-game day. So we'll see each other every four hours in total. However it may vary according to my availability, so just drop whatever you crafted for us at the entrance of your cave. I'll do the same for the resources.

'Great, it suits me a lot.' Keith thought.

- "Understood, then see you later."

- "Yeah, see you."

On this note, Amber left towards her base. On her way back, she thought that the path between her guild and the caveman was really long and that she needed to discuss about it with Alan.

Keith really needed to secure his base. Now that she and her guild knew where he was located, they could easily steal from his stocks. He did not have the technology to prevent others access to his base yet, but he could hide his important resources in another place.

'Speaking of food, I'd really need some to continue exploring the depths of my cave.'

After making sure Amber actually left, Keith went hunting in the forest. On the way back, he searched for a place to hide his treasures. Finding nothing, he decided to dig up a hole under a large rock. It took him a few minutes, but he was satisfied with the result.

Finally back to his cave, the long awaited moment was here. He was determined to find that iron he needed so much. As all the other times he went mining, he took a pickaxe, a torch, some food and water, and he was ready to go.

Several dozen minutes later, he was back to the silver vein he had discovered from last time. But he didn't need a lot of silver yet, thus he continued in the abyss of the grotto.

It wasn't long until he found the first traces of iron. The wall on his left had some orange shades and soon he found a giant vein of iron.

'Just what I needed!'

- "Why are you bothering? Just decide on a place halfway from his base where you could both meet." Alan didn't understand why Amber decided to do the whole ride to the caveman's base every four hours.

- "Yeah, you may be right. I didn't think about it since I was the one who came up with the treaty... However, I make some discoveries by spying his base each time I go there."

- "Hmm. Ok, but don't force yourself. If he doesn't want to cooperate, we'll just capture him and destroy his entire base. If he's a bit smart, he'll understand the position he's in."

Amber nodded as an answer. If they wanted to carry out their project, they would need every help they could find, even if they needed to use force for that.
