Project Overworld

Chapter 67 - Projects progress

Like every evening, Keith was immersed in his plans trying to figure out how he would be building the modules necessary for his space station as well as the space shuttle that would bring him to the Moon.

The modules were actually quite simple to design. Most of them had the same structural model and the only restrictions Keith had to get around were related to their total weight. It was quite slowish according to him since he would only be launching some fifteen square feet module at a time, but would not be needing that many rooms in his spatial base anyways.

The space shuttle was the real problem, though. He initially conceived it as a rocket but it would be quite strange to launch a rocket into space using another rocket. This space shuttle actually needed to be quite small to be transported into space while being aerodynamic to leave Earth's atmosphere more easily.

Alternatively, Keith could be building it into space but he estimated he would need four to five more launches just to get the necessary materials into orbit around his station.

This was not efficient at all.

Anyways, back to the drawing board, Keith was putting every second of his free time into his current project. He knew he was competing against a group of people to get to the Moon, albeit he still had some others plans at the moment.

In fact, he could more or less build a rocket to get him there in no time and win the race without his competitors even knowing about it. However, it would not be fun. He had thought of many ways to indroduce himself to the world but doing it through a simple screenshot of the Moon would be quite lame.

No, he would actually be using Ericality's own livestream to catch everyone out of surprise. Just imagining how his stream's chat would be going crazy after seeing him was making him smile.

Regardless, this Moon race was but a small matter to Keith, in the end. His main objective was to build a space station from where he would be operating, and building a space shuttle was also part of his future plans anyways. What he was doing was actually not that related to the conquest of the Moon, and it was only a side objective he could reach during the main mission.

It had almost two weeks since he graduated from his economics university. After the graduation ceremony, he started working in a factory he had applyed to a few months ago.

He did not realize it at first, but it was a really tiring job. Not only that, his job was really boring to him because it only consisted in packing up perfume bottles.

Most of the job was being done by machines anyways, so human action was not that necessary. Keith had kind of expected it, but not to this point. In fact, he would have rather controlled the machines directly and tweek things up a bit.

It was a start to his career, but he hoped he would be able to progress quickly.

Regardless, he was earning a living and he was having some free time after working for a few seven hours at his job site. He could not really complain about it since he had struggled so much to get to play Project Overworld recently because of the exams.

Even if his body was tired by the end of the day, 'Simulated Reality' was not physically exhausting so he could play for several hours a day. And this number was pumping up to a dozen of hours on the week-ends. All in all, he was progressing quite steadily and was having a lot of fun.

'Okay, let's check on the machines, they should have produced the necessary materials for my Space Station Launcher 2.' Keith realized after working for a few hours on his plans.

Ever since the discoveries of new continents around the world came into acknowledgement, Amber has been officially naming those one of the other. There has not been a lot of questions raised on who shall be accomplishing this job because Amber has been assigned to the position of mayor of Midgard for quite a while now and was also taking care of the whole game's growth by each day on her own.

She was highly respected for that and her popularity within Project Overworld was even larger than some well-known streamers of the game.

That was why, when she nominated the north continent as 'Shyram' everyone agreed with it. Most of them understood that they could not keep the nordic naming style for long, and all the other continents and islands discovered also had their own naming style.

Some were simple, others complex. Some were being inspired by mythologies and legends, other were formed by only imagination.

With these place officially named, people started established everywhere. So much so that Amber has had to restrict this wild colonization and individually give out building permits to some recognized architects. She was forced to do it since she wanted to maintain some areas to build cities on.

That was actually the huge announcement she wanted to express by the end of the next Inventopia. She had planned a total of three more cities across the world all built around the shores so they could still communicate with each other using sh.i.p.s.

Regarding this matter, she had already posted on the official forums the date at which this event would be taking place as well as the rules that would be hosted. People were preparing for this Inventopia with renewed motivation. The double theme they could choose from was really interesting to them and twice as much participants as last time already signed up for the event. They were eager to show off their newest inventions and ease the exploration of the new islands they had discovered.

'I'm suprised no one came across Keith's base after all this exploration being made. I guess he hid it really well. Regardless, I should warn him about the future construction of a city on his continent.' Amber thought while going through her paperwork. It was the least she could do after this charitable soul helped them get rid of terrorists by two times in the past. Actually, if it was only up to her, she would not be building a city on his continent and let him be with his mindblowing inventions.

However, people were wishing to establish everywhere and she had to control their urge by containing them within well organized buildings.

'Okay, let's finish the organization of the fifth edition of Inventopia and contact him about the matter of the city. He should also have the choice of its name if he wants to.' She concluded.

_______________

Eric was in the heavens. Not only did their last launch succeeded, they also reach a big milestone in their plans. They had reached the fourty miles of altitude along their way and they were all enthusiast about building a larger version of their rockets.

Ericality's livestream also gained in popularity by each day and was now averaging several dozen thousands of viewers whenever he was streaming a rocket launch.

He was really proud of his work, albeit it was not to the opinion of everyone. Leyla was the first to correct Eric on his grand dreams of space exploration. She was always forced to calm him down because she was pretty sure he would actually be building a chimera of some sorts that could not even launch itself in the air.

The few others who did not join them on the space colonization project were really pleased to not have done so by now. They thought Eric was becoming a jerk and that he was being blinded by his popularity.

Other than that, the rest of the crew was not that impacted by this sour atmosphere. Most of them were ignoring his absurd commands and focused on the building of the rocket. Some even thought that this popularity affected them for the better and were being motivated by the thought that people may witness the fruits of their labor.

Regardless of that, they all progressed towards the same objective and were doing quite well on that end. Their next rocket would be more than fifty percent as large as the last ones and although Leyla was being sceptical whether they would actually accomplish such a feat or not, it would still be a huge progress in their plans.

Eric decided that this rocket shall be named 'Apollo 1' since it would be the first large step towards their Moon landing. All the previous ones were simply test rockets that should be forgotten according to him.

'This is so pompous...' Leyla thought. The more Eric took decisions, the more exasperated she felt. What if they did terrible with those rockets and failed ever reaching the Moon? What if another player went there before them? She was thinking. This whole 'Apollo' series was based entirely on the precarious eventuallity that they reached the Moon before anyone else.

'Well, let's try to actually reach the Moon before someone else does.' She motivated herself while focusing back on the assembling of the main engine.
