Chapter 40

At the previous chapter, we were chilling around while Purin trained Fleur in magic. All were peaceful and fine. The birds were singing harmoniously, and the clouds drifted along loftily. The trees swayed with the wind, as they danced to its wonderful rhythm.

Well… Not really. I was lying. Actually, the sky is brown, the ground is brown, and the wall is brown. Everything is darkened brown…

… because we're in a cave full of Glow Stones.

Not long after, I detected a group of Humans and Aelves, which is bizarre, to be frank, since two races being together happily just happens in fiction in this world.

Well, one way or another, they were suddenly attacked by Marburrows. So, we teleported to their location to lend a hand.

Somehow, I got to defeat the incoming Marburrows with ease, but… Perhaps from the Marburrows digging, they may have made the floor vulnerable to caving in. I'm not really sure, though. I didn't detect anything below, after all.

Not waiting for another moment for me to enjoy the heaven I was enwrapped with, the floor gave in and Fleur, Fina, and I fell down the hole.

Leaving Purin and Fina's company above, we fell down the pitch dark hole we never thought we would never end up in.

It all happened in an instant, I never had the chance to look cool… Well, this is a good chance, though. I can learn more about this hazy feeling I've been having ever since I saw Fina.

Ciel: "Consequently so, we're now in this pitch black place, huh?"

Fina: "Pfft. What are you talking about with that 'consequently so'? Like we'll get it just from that alone. Hyahaha~"

Fleur: "Uhm. Are you okay? Did you hit your head?"

O-Ohh. I'm treated like a fool, I see.

Anyways, we're really in a blind spot here. I'm using my wisps to light our surrounding. Fina, on the other hand, is trying to touch them like a curious child, but I just let her be for now.

No matter how I try to reach an end or something, there's nothing to see. Just a huge space of brown dirt. The ceiling is also not visible from here. So for now, we've decided to just stay put. It'll be bad if we end up somewhere Purin and the others will have a hard time finding us.

I'm using Detect but it doesn't show anything in particular. Just a huge area without any walls or corners. Instead, I've been sensing something peculiar with my Heat Sensor, which I acquired from the Marburrow earlier.

So, to put simply, we're stuck.

The only silver lining here is that I'm not detecting any monsters at the moment. That means, we're safe for the time being. Or so I would like to believe.

The Detect only reaches up to a hundred meters. Meaning, we're down below a hundred meters from where we fell down.

Quite a distance. Yep.

As for our fall, I used my wisps, activated Liquid Body with them, and enlarged them to act as cushion for the two. I guess Fleur forgot about her Float skill.

That's how they're both unharmed right now. In case they aren't, we can just use Fleur's Heal. But it's the best case scenario that they aren't, of course.

At any rate, I can just use Teleport anyways. But that would lost the meaning of letting this happen.

My reason?

I want to know more about this Fina.

Ciel: "Ah, right. We haven't done our introductions yet, haven't we? I'm Ciel. This here is…"

Fleur: "Fleur Ecl-… Fleur. My name is Fleur."

Oh. Nice going there Fleur.

She must have realized that giving away our true identities will be bad, so she intentionally stopped from revealing her full name. Who knows whether the other races knows the name of the Demon Lord?

Right now, Fleur is using Alter to change our looks so we only look like normal Human travelers. It seems like these Aelves are on good terms with Humans, so I doubt she will go hostile against us.

Ciel: "We're travelers crossing the border to reach the Faunalian Continent. Nice to meet you. Uhm…"

We're definitely not suspicious.

Fina: "I see~ Nice to meet you! I'm Serafina Euralec. Fina will do~"

Placing her hand over her eyes, making a salutation gesture, Fina introduced herself with a bright and cheerful voice. It's like we're not even in a tight spot, in the first place.

Well, we're actually not, since I can do something about it with ease.

She then bowed her head for another simple greeting then followed by a bright smile.

I wonder how old she is.

I've learned my lesson with Fleur to not base my assumptions from looks alone, with her being 26 with the looks of 18. Not to mention, from my knowledge of elves back in my world, they live long enough to see three or more generations of humans in their lifespan alone.

She looks like she's 16 but… Maybe to my surprise, she'll actually turn out to be a hundred years old or something? Perhaps even more…?

Ugh… This world is scary.

You meet someone and you won't know, she' already at the age of your great-great grandmother.

Fina: "We're stuck, huh…? Myuu…"

Fleur: "Yes… *sigh*"

There it is again. Her weird grunting.

There's only one person among the few people I'm acquainted with who speaks like this. I mean, it's weird to begin with. It's more plausible that she's the only one who let out such grunts. I'd be surprised myself if it's actually the norm to go and release "Muu" and "Myu" all the time.

It's stuck in my head since I've heard it since I was a child. Meeting her again when I entered high school also doesn't help, since I've once again heard it all day long.

Am I just being paranoid about it? Being too hopeful of something vague?

Maybe I am.

I just think, how nice it would be if she turns out to be Chloe.

Fina: "Oh, yeah. Why are you travelling across the border? Won't it be dangerous? I mean, you guys are Humans, after all."

Perhaps noticing the lingering silence, Fina turned our way and asked a question. I'm not sure if it's pure curiosity or just a way to start a conversation, but…

Ciel: "We're actually planning to meet a friend in one of its cities. In the capital, actually. Well, our main purpose for travelling is only sightseeing, but we just made that as our first objective. That person is not interested in the current war, or so I heard."

I answer, nonetheless.

Fina: "Oohh… I see, I see. It must have been a hassle, huh? Having to cross this forest and all."

Fina looked at both of us with worried expression.

Hm. Just as I thought. They're not a group of people who are concerned with the current war between the races.

Ciel: "Well, kinda. Got to encounter problems from here and there. But that's also fun in its way. Right, Fleur?"

Winking, signaling to get along with my explanation.

Fleur: "Yes, Master. I also think so."

Fina: "M-Master…?"

Crap. Well? Maybe it's something common in this world or something.

It's not like we talked about that beforehand, but… I think we should be fine. I hope.

She then threw a dubious look.

Uh… Is she perhaps misunderstanding things, like we're in a suspicious relationship where I bind her, and put her on a blindfold, and punish her, and laugh like, 'Uhahahaha!' That kind of relationship??

I mean, of course we're not. It's not like I want to. Yep. Definitely not.

Fleur: "M-Master is my Master!"

Hey, hey… Hold on, Ms. Fleur…? I think it's not good to add oil to the fire?

Fina: "Master?? You mean… You're her slave…? E-Ehhhh?? That means… You guys…"

How did she came up with that conclusion? I mean, that's not only the diction of 'Master', right?? Or is it in this world??

Fina covered her lips with her hand and used her other hand to point at us, whilst trembling. Let me tell you, she's really misunderstanding things.

I had Fleur calm down before carefully explaining our current relationship to Fina. We went with siblings and are just role-playing or something.

It wasn't long then when she just bursted out of laughter and told us she's just playing along with the quip, thinking that we were just fooling around.

It wasn't a quip, though. I almost died of a heart attack…

But good thing she just went ahead and given us a more proper misunderstanding, instead. All's well, all's well.

Still, I seriously thought she believed that I'm some pervert maniac who goes picking up girls and making them into my own harem s.e.x slave. That's appealing, but no thanks. I don't want any knife getting stuck inside my body.

At any rate, right now, we've decided to explore the place.

Well, we got bored, as to why.

From the fall, we could see that there was certainly a considerable height that is sort of impossible to climb, or for Purin and the others to descend into and find us. But of course, that will be easy for us to do with my Terra Manipulation and Detect, but I've decided to see things first before doing anything drastic.

Right now, we're normal Humans.

… Normal Humans who teleported out of nowhere and killed the Marburrows. Yeah, right.

But with this, I can now learn more about her.

And there's one thing I'm bothered with.

This place is quiet as hell, but… I can feel an organic heat from all over the place using the Heat Sensor. I want to take my time and be careful. If my hunch is right, then we're probably inside a den of a monster. And not just one. There's a lot of them.

That's why, there's no use in us waiting, so we've decided to walk our way out of this.

I'm still using detect, but I still can't find anything. Only the heat from the Heat Sensor. Are they hiding far away where my Detect won't reach? Or are they using a skill that deflects my Detect skill?

… I must remain vigilant. Since right now…

They're on the move.

Fina: "Naahh… Hyaha~ It's just… I'm not really sure. It feels like I want to tease you or something. Ah. Don't misunderstand, okay? It's just a weird feeling of mine, but… You see… It feels like I've already met you before. I meant, Ciel, by the way."

I certainly felt that too when I was checking up on them through my Magical Perception. The moment I laid my eyes on her, I felt like there's something in her that I want to know. A connection. And like I mentioned before, I feel attracted to her.

Then the more I feel like my suspicions are right…

I'll test the waters for now.

Fina: "Really?! Hyaha~ This is as if it's a scene from a movie or some TV series!"

… Hmhm. 'TV series' and 'movie', eh?

I mean… Who was she? Just as I thought, is she maybe Chloe? Can I be sure of that?

She waved both of her hand, left and right. It's as if cold sweat would start pouring down her forehead if this keeps up.

Ciel: "Y-Yeah… Sure."

I'm too riled up to bother correcting her that I'm a guy.

If she really is Chloe…

Who am I to rob her off of that life?
