Rebellious Path

Chapter 55 - Church (2)

Being able to see in the dark even if it was very light was a huge advantage. That was why I was able to quickly discern the girl's identity that I was holding. She had dazzling blue eyes and silky pink hair. She also had a lighter tone of brown and was wearing clothes that a priestess should be wearing. Yes, as you may have already known through the description I gave, this girl was the dark-skinned elven beauty, Rina.

When she was about to fall on the ground, I utilised my speed, grabbed her by the waist and pulled her up. I then helped her to balance herself as I patted her head endearingly. She was not only adorable, but she also had a beautiful body.

"Oh! It's Rina! Are you alright? It seems that my sudden appearance may have surprised you."

"...R-Riku? Yes, I'm alright... as you have said, I was just surprised, haha."

She gave a very nervous laugh to me as her face flushed with a fitting hue of pink. I gave a slight chuckle as I stopped patting her head and accidentally rubbed her cute long ears, causing her to m.o.a.n lightly, which made her even more alluring than ever. I held her hand with a grin, which she tightly grasped, and I proceeded to ask her something.

"Rina, what are you doing here this late at night?"

"O-oh! I just visited the church here to give my prayers… and I'm a priestess, remember?"

"Oh, right! I forgot about that…"

I smiled awkwardly since I had forgotten about that topic even though I could remember things quite quickly and not forget about it. Maybe this is an effect of flirting with alluring priestesses? Probably not. I scratched my head lightly as I turned my head to look at the statues once more, trying to discern why it all seemed so oddly familiar.

Seeing that I was looking at the statues whilst in deep contemplation, Rina was extremely quiet. She didn't want me to forget everything that I was contemplating if she disturbed me and be mad at her, so she was really nervous. That won't certainly be the case if that happened, but she isn't me, how could she probably know?

Taking all her courage, she shook her head lightly as she took in a deep breath which was incredibly adorable and charming. She then extended her arm as she grabbed unto my cloth and pulled it lightly.

"U-um, R-Riku, what are you doing this late at night?"

I proceeded to turn my head to look at her, but she shied away, turning her head to the side. It was clear that she was very nervous due to her tone, causing me to chuckle lightly.

"I was just roaming around whilst enjoying the scenery and happened to find this place."

"Ah! I see! Roaming around at night is truly refreshing, isn't it?"

"Yeah, that is true."

Her shyness seemed to fade away as we further our conversation. I was happy to see that as I didn't want someone, I spent quite a while with to be nervous around me, or nervous talking to me. As that ended, we looked at each other and nodded whilst proceeding to walk towards the chairs and sat down. Just then, I initiated a conversation on which Rina should be knowledgable about.

"Oh, right! I forgot that you are not from this kingdom and probably worship another god... Well then... they are considered to be the goddesses that reigned over this world for thousands of aeons."

(Yeah, I already know that Rina, moving on) I couldn't help but speak in my thoughts, which caused my face to twitch as I found it hilarious. I then rid myself of such thoughts and cleared out my mind to avoid any distractions as I listened in to what she'll say whilst turning my head to look at the statues.

"In the kingdom of Reisfield, the Goddess of Light is the ruling Goddess. In the land of the elves, the Goddess of Nature is the one worshipped the most. In the kingdom of Anemos, the ruling Goddess is the Goddess of the Wind. But in the whole world, the most glorified God is the Goddess of Life as she gave life upon each and every creature.

"The Goddess on the farthest left is the Goddess of Life, Zena-sama. The Goddess next to her is the Goddess of Nature, Iris-sama. The one in the middle is the Goddess of Light, Helia-sama. And the Goddess after her is the Goddess of Wind, Aelle-sama."

After that, she stopped speaking, leaving me thoroughly confused. Why? You ask? It's due to the reason that she hadn't mentioned the Goddess on the farthest right, the Goddess that felt the most familiar. I then proceeded to turn my head towards Rina in a confused manner and asked her a question.

"Umm... Rina, how about the Goddess on the farthest right?"

Rina then was taken aback. Her face clearly showed that she was confused as she stared at the last statue and contemplated. Her hands were crossed, causing her beautifully shaped and moulded b.r.e.a.s.t to jiggle, which could distract almost any man.

She... could neither remember a thing and recognise the statue, leaving her to just sigh as she leaned her back on the chair.

"I... can't remember a thing. Not only me but… I'm pretty sure no one remembers. There is something... odd about that statue... an overwhelming sense of familiarity that seems as if the Goddess that this statue represents was our own loving mother…

I fell silent as I heard her explanation. The last Goddess was actual unknown, which came in by surprise. In earth, the Gods and Goddesses that are worshipped can be actually fake, but none of them was classified as unknown.

"Are you sure that she is truly an unknown Goddess?"

"Yes, I am."

"Huh... there must be a reason why."

I turned my head back to look at the statue and contemplated the topic. (Unknown Goddesses, huh... that can't be right. There must be a reason why they can't remember…) I pondered upon all the possibilities of how and why they can't remember. Still, I'm pretty sure that none of my opinions will lead to a conclusion as I barely had any evidence and scarcely knew about the Goddess's origins.

Now, I actually regret not reading any books about the Gods and Goddesses of the nations worldwide. I should find some time to visit the library once again. I snapped out of my thoughts as I stared at the unknown Goddess's statue, and a specific memory of a face appeared within my mind.

(Wait a minute... that face...) I seemed to recognise the face of someone. However, it was deeply scattered in my memories that even the memories that I manage to obtain after dying were useless. Just like Rina, I sighed as everything that surfaced upon my mind was worthless.

"I see… well, there's nothing we can do. I guess I should go back now, it's getting pretty late."

"Ah! Riku, I'll come with you, so can you please wait for me? I will offer a small prayer to the Goddesses."

As I turned whilst preparing to leave, Rina suddenly called me. It seems that she wanted to walk with me back to the palace, which I accepted. It's not as if we were heading to opposite directions.

I walked up to her and sat down beside her, causing her smile happily whilst clasping her hands together. I just stared at her as she prayed in a relatively soft voice, which was filled with compassion. I just listened to what she prayed about… and found out about something quite personal to the elven race.

It seems that the Elven Queen has a rather dire illness causing the functions and the moral of the elves to plummet down. It appears that the cheerful appearances of the two charming elven priestesses at the start was only a facade. But I heard her thank the Goddess for blessing them with rather unique acquaintances, making me smile widely and happily.

As she finished praying, her expression seemed to be relieved as she stood up and took a deep breath, wiping off all her frustrations. She then looked at me and pulled me up cheerfully.

"Let's go! Yay!"

"Yeah!"

I just played along as I found her with this attitude to be incredibly adorable. I wonder if I can help the Elven Queen in any way to cure her illness.

[NEW Quest!]

(Ooh! A quest!), I was rather excited about this as I haven't seen a quest given to me. I just hope that unlike all the systems in the novels I read, this will only help me, and not force me to finish whatever quest it gives.

Requirement:

Find a way to cure the illness of the Elven Queen.

Rewards:

Elven Race Loyalty

Increased Relationsh.i.p.s with all Elves

Elven Queen Affection

Title: Doctor]

Rather than being upset about a quest, I was rather happy about it, not due to the rewards, but because this system that I have gained after entering the "Trial of Time" doesn't give me disadvantages, but rather, only helps me. There wasn't even any kind of Time Limit, or Failure Penalty, but only rewards!

I just smiled as I swiped away the panel.

"Hey, Rina... I was actually eavesdropping a bit when you prayed earlier…"

"Ah! So you must've heard my prayer about the Elven Queen?"

"In fact, I have... And my thoughts went to immediately want to help to the best of my ability. I just want to ask, why is the Elven Queen important to you?"

Tina smiled at that question as she clasped her hands closely and pressed it against her c.h.e.s.t whilst staring at the moon above.

"I treat her as my own mother... she took me in when I was a child since my parents died, and she accepted me, even though I was a dark elf. It may seem really peaceful now, but before, it wasn't. The land of the elves was basically the same as any other countries. Many wards were brewing and the dark elves and the elves always fought."

"The elven queen was the one who brought together the Dark Elves and the Elves, and united everyone. She was my idol, and as well as my mother."

I was quite touched with this short story, leading me to smile. I looked at Rina once more as I chuckled lightly. "It seems that we have some things in common, after all."

Rina giggled as I said that, whilst we walked side by side, now even closer than before. As we neared the castle, Rina suddenly pulled my arm and planted a kiss on my cheeks which really didn't surprise me. I mean, I'm not bragging, but I'm getting kinda used to being kissed all the time.

"Riku, thank you for letting me let out my feelings… well, I should go now, goodnight!"

We then arrived in the castle, and Rina ran off to her room. I just continued smiling as I walked up to my room. It was already really late, probably past midnight. I just walked in the room silently and saw the adorable little creatures lying on my mind with drools on their faces, making me silently chuckle.

I neared their faces with my own and gave them both a kiss on the forehead as I sat down on the chair beside the bed, as I had some unfinished business. I opened the system menu and opened Previous Notifications.

[Unlocking 'Low Mortal' Memories. Trigger command to start the process. Make sure to be in a safe area and be prepared. You will feel severe amounts of pain during the recovering process]

I clicked on it with my thoughts as well, and another panel appeared before me.

[Unlock 'Low Mortal' Memories

Y/N

Note: Extreme amounts of pain will be felt by the host during the recovering process]

I no longer wasted any more time as I activated the recovering process.
