Rebirth In KurokoNoBasket

Chapter 59 - God-Speed Impulse

Shun saw the falling power forward, and then he abruptly backed away from the spot, barely avoiding contacting the body of Aiwa's power forward.

Aiwa's power forward fell on the ground. He felt his body contacting the floor and not Shun's body.

His landing was safe, so when he felt the floor and not Shun's body, he instinctively looked at Shun, who was currently looking at his hands.

All the members from both teams came running towards their respective team members.

Tokiwadai members asked Shun if he was alright.

Mibuchi: "Kageyama-chan, are you alright?!"

Shun looked up and replied, still feeling a little lost.

Shun: "Eh? Ah yes. I am fine. I didn't make any contact with the other player, so I am uninjured."

The others were a little worried, but since they also saw Shun avoiding the power forward cleanly, they didn't question him further.

Aiwa had taken a time-out to give their power forward some time to recover and pull himself back together.

Hanamiya was frowning at his failed plan of getting Shun injured.

Hanamiya: 'How did he avoid that so quickly?! No one should be able to react that quickly.'

While this was happening around Shun, he was sitting on the bench and was looking down at the floor.

Shun: 'What was that! I haven't been able to react this fast ever before. This was something different.'

Shun had the god-speed impulse since he was born, he used it every day at every moment on the court. Shun used it to pass, to defend, to score. Every task Shun did on the court was backed up by god-speed impulse.

Shun: 'But this was different. This felt like my reflexes had been dialed up to eleven.'

Shun at that moment felt every muscle in his body, he felt every twitch of his muscles, and as soon as he saw the falling body he suddenly felt an electric jolt going from his eyes to his brain to his body, his brain commanded the body to move, and his body obeyed instantly.

Shun's heart was beating so loudly that he could hear it. An excited grin emerged on Shun's face.

Shun: 'So this is it, huh. The real power of God-Speed Impulse.'

Tokiwadai members felt a force abruptly appear before them, so they turned towards its source.

They saw Shun sitting on the bench, an excited grin on his face, and his eyes widened to the limit.

All of their eyes widened, seeing Shun showing such an excited expression. Shun usually had a calm expression or lightly smiled while playing, but this was the first time they had seen him so excited.

Hanamiya, who was at Aiwa's bench, felt a similar pressure from Tokiwadai's bench. He stood up abruptly, looked towards Tokiwadai, and saw Shun's expression.

Hanamiya: "What is that?!"

Shun stood up and addressed the others without looking at them.

Shun: "Everyone, I know this may sound sudden or even abrupt, but please pass all the balls to me for the whole second half of the game."

All the members were taken back by Shun's sudden request.

Kaitani: "What are you talking about, Kageyama?"

The coach looked at Shun, and a thought struck his mind.

Coach: 'Is he...? That must be it.'

The coach knew that Shun had reached the state that he wanted Shun to reach.

Coach: 'Now he needs to get familiar with the change he experienced. He still has the experience fresh in his mind. Now is the best timing to get used to what he has found.'

The coach addressed the team and approved of Shun's request.

Coach: "Let him do whatever he wants. He must have found something he wants to try."

Shun looked at the coach and nodded.

Shun: "Thank you, coach."

Coach turned to the team and gave his orders.

Coach: "Kageyama-kun will now be on the receiving end of the passes, so if you don't have a clear shot to the basket, pass the ball to Shun.

The defense will be the same as before."

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

The time out was over, and the last minute of the second-quarter begin.

Kaitani brought the ball to the half-court line and passed the ball to Shun.

Shun took a deep breath and exhaled it right after.

He moved at a slow speed to the three-point arc, but the moment he reached the arc, he exploded forward, passing through two defenders without any problems.

Hanamiya: 'He is faster than before!'

Hanamiya was half right, Shun was indeed moving faster than before, but that wasn't all there was to it.

The coach looked at the confused Tokiwadai bench, who were thinking the same thing as Hanamiya.

Coach: "Kageyama-kun didn't need to move this fast when he was on the giving end of the passes, the ball moves faster than any player.

He thought that as long as he can get the ball to other players, there is no need to be faster than he was playing, and if he can accomplish that with a lower speed, then there is indeed no need to be faster.

Now, as Kageyama-kun is on the offense rather than support so he can move as fast as he wants to, plus it isn't just pure speed.

Kageyama-kun has an explosive nature to his athletism, he can accelerate and decelerate at will, and his body allows him to do that, he is similar to Kaitani, but a level higher than him.

All the players looked at Shun as he passed two members of the Aiwa defense.

Shun jumped at the basket, Hanamiya also jumped to contest the ball.

Hanamiya: "I will stop you!"

Shun again felt the jolt of god-speed impulse. He twisted his body, such that the hand with the ball extended forward, and moved his hand behind Hanamiya.

With a flick of his wrist, he sent the ball upward, and it dropped into the basket, bypassing Hanamiya's block.

Shun was getting more and more excited by the second, this was the first time god-speed impulse had given such reaction, he wanted to drown more and more in the experience.

Shun: "This is good. More, much more. I have to experiment and experience more of this."

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Kaitani and Shun were still double-teaming Hanamiya, completely removing his from Aiwa's offense. Hanamiya would have been able to escape if Shun wasn't his defender, but the current pressure on Hanmiya was greater than before.

Hanamiya: 'Something changed after the fall, he has become more dangerous than before.'

Aiwa's shooting forward got the ball from the small forward and shot a long-range two-pointer.

Shun moved as soon as the ball hit the shooting guard's hand.

He reached the shooting guard and completely thwarted the ball out of his hands. The ball went to Yuki, who dribbled forward.

The shooting guard was startled by Shun's sudden appearance.

Aiwa's shooting guard: 'Wasn't he defending Hanamiya?! What is he doing here!'

Shun ran past Yuki and asked for a pass. Yuki passed the ball forward to Shun.

Shun was on the run, and there were no defenders in front of him. He scored with a dunk with no defender to contest him.

The second-quarter ended with 62-39 in Tokiwadai's favor.

Aiwa's worst nightmare was just beginning. Kageyama Shun was finally on a roll, and he was hungry for much more.

The second half of the game broke all expectations of what Kageyama Shun could accomplish on the court, and the players on the court finally realized that there was a monster amongst them.
