Rebirth In KurokoNoBasket

Chapter 98 - Yukigaoka vs. Tokiwadai; Part 2

In the third quarter, Shun walked to Mibuchi and said.

Shun: "Mibuchi-senpai, I want to try something. Help me out."

Mibuchi smiled and said.

Mibuchi: "Sure, what do you want to do."

Shun leaned and explained the plan to Mibuchi.

By the time Shun finished, he was grinning, and Mibuchi was sighing.

Mibuchi looked at his junior and asked.

Mibuchi: "Have you ever tried this before?"

Shun scratched the back of his and chuckled.

Shun: "...No."

Mibuchi rubbed his temple and said.

Mibuchi: "Okay, we will try it one time. If you fail, then we won't try it again."

Shun saluted and said.

Shun: "Aye-Aye, captain."

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

During the next Tokiwadai possession, Shun passed the ball to Mibuchi just before the three-point arc and then proceeded to the low-post area.

Mibuchi sighed as he dribbled the ball and waited for Shun to reach his position.

When Shun reached the low post, Mibuchi shot the ball, but the aim was off.

Yukigaoka's Coach stood up from his chair and yelled.

Yukigaoka's Coach: "REbound..."

His voice became smaller at the end, as he wide-eyed saw the scene in front of him.

On the court, Shun jumped for the ball before it hit the rim.

Shun: "WOOHOO!!!"

Shun was attempting his first alley-oop.

He grinned as he caught the ball and moved his to jam the ball in the hoop.

Shun: "Ooooooooh!!!"

But, Shun came up short, and the ball collided with the rim and bounced off away from the basket.

Shun: "Ooooo...Ah."

Shun watched the ball go away from his grasp.

Shun: "Oh, crap."

But, Yuki was there to save the situation as he caught the ball. He passed the ball to Aone, who jammed the ball in the hoop with a dunk.

Shun looked at Aone, who hummed at him.

Yuki, who was looking at them, spoke to Shun.

Yuki: "He means, that's how you do it!"

Shun turned to Yuki and yelled with an embarrassed face.

Shun: "I know that!... Dammit, I should've practiced before."

Mibuchi chimed in when he heard the last part.

Mibuchi: "Yeah, that didn't come to your mind before, did it?"

Kaitani pointed at Shun and laughed, especially loudly at his miss.

Kaitani: "Pfft! Hahahahahaha!!"

Shun pretended to wipe the sweat off his face with his jersey to hide the embarrassment, as he returned to his side of the court for defense.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

After that, Shun decided to redeem himself on defense.

Yukigaoka's point guard dribbled the ball, trying to get away from Kaitani, and they arrived at the left side of the court.

As the ball was on the right side of the court, Tokiwadai members shifted to the right to accommodate the defense, in case the point guard decided to charge in our passed the ball near him for a post-play.

But on the other side of the court, Yukigaoka's shooting guard raised his hand for a pass.

Yukigaoka's point guard passed the ball to the small forward, who was near him, and the point guard yelled.

Yukigaoka's PG: "Pass the ball!"

Yukigaoka's small forward caught the ball and said while relaying the ball to the shooting guard.

Yukigaoka's SF: "Got it."

The crowd 'ooh-ed' when the ball got to the shooting guard from the point guard.

Person A: "That was quick."

The pass was smooth and had no delay.

Person B: "That was a good relay."

Yukigaoka's shooting guard caught the ball at the three-point arc and jumped for a three-pointer.

Yukigaoka's small forward was celebrating that the pass went great, but then he saw Shun running towards his shooting guard, with an irritated expression on his face.

So, like any good teammate, he yelled.

Yukigaoka's SF: "Incoming!"

But, it was too late as the shooting guard saw a scary-looking Shun smacking the ball out of his hand while yelling.

Shun: "PORZINGAS!" [1]

The ball went out of bounds because Shun smacked it too hard.

Shun: "Ah..."

Yuki called out to Shun.

Yuki: "Don't yell out weird stuff. It is embarrassing."

This time Shun just turned his head, showing that he was capable of having thick skin.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

After the ball went out of bounds, it was inbounded by Yukigaoka's shooting guard to their point guard.

The shooting guard ran to the corner of the court, ready for a shot.

The point guard looked for potential pass recipients and saw the small forward running at him, Kaitani was behind him chasing his mark.

The point guard decided to pass the ball to the incoming small forward, he tossed the ball to him, but mid-flight a figure put a hand on the ball.

Yukigaoka's point guard and small forward were stunned at the sudden pass fake.

Yukigaoka's PG: "I forgot about the steals!"

Shun, who just stole the ball, ran like a maniac to the basket.

Shun: "I won't miss this time."

Shun jumped as soon as he entered the Dee and put the ball down into the basket with a powerful one-handed windmill dunk.

Shun landed on the floor and pumped his fists into the air and celebrated.

Shun: "Woohoohoo!"

-*-*-*-*-*-*-

After that, Shun became serious about stealing passes.

The turnovers took a sharp rise in the last two quarters.

Shun's repetitive steals broke Yukigaoka's rhythm, and they started to miss a lot.

Yukigaoka's power forward somehow got into the inside and jumped up for a shot, but he missed the basket, and the ball bounced off the back of the rim.

Yukigaoka's PF: "Tch."

*

Yukigaoka also started to choose bad spots to shoot from and got blocked a lot.

The shooting guard took a shot a long-range two-pointer, which bad considering that Tokiwadai was still following their pack-line defense.

Shooting a long-range two was a wrong choice, as the distance between long-range two and a three-pointer was small, and a long-range two had a smaller distance from Tokiwadai's pack-line.

Yuki contested the incoming shot and completely blocked it.

Yukigaoka's SG: "Crap!"

*

When shooting didn't work, they went for layups and other close to basket shots.

Yukigaoka's center tried to move just below the basket and tried to put up the ball with a layup.

Yukigaoka's Coach stood up from his chair and yelled.

Yukigaoka's Coach: "Don't stray away from our tactics!"

But it was too late, Aone was already on the center's tail, and snatched the ball from him.

The crowd cheered on the block and snatch.

*

Little by little, Yukigaoka crumbled, and their helplessness increased when Tokiwadai added Hyakuzawa in place of Kaitani to bolster their defense.

The tall second-year was a menace for shot players as he repeatedly blocked shots left and right.

With Aone and Hyakuzawa on the court together, Yukigaoka couldn't get rebounds, and their whole system crumbled completely.

Yukigaoka was only able to score four points in the last quarter, which made it clear to the crowd the difference between both teams.

The game ended with the score 123 - 45 in Tokiwadai's favor.

And, Tokiwadai moved to the finals of Block-B.

[A/N - 1: The line is from Brooklyn 99. A Latvian character yells this out as he blocks.

The line comes from the Latvian NBA player's name, Kristaps Porziņģis.

I don't know if 'Porzingas' is correct or if it is 'Porziņģis, but I just followed what was written in the subtitles.]
