the truth of the matter was that the jade family actually had 2 sons. tobias and his twin brother troy. growing up they were close but troy shut out anyone else. troy despised their parents too busy working or throwing their money away to raise their children. he also disliked the people who only tried to befriend him for money.

Troy rebeled, partied, and slowly immersed himself with the wrong crowd. by the time he had gotten in his 20s he was part of a gang,the leader of gambling ring and a infamous loan shark business. he racked up many enemies with his brutal methods but the one person besides tobias that he cared for was Rebekah.

Rebekah was a tutor for tobias who grew up dirt poor. she was a beauty though. to pay her bills she used her looks to gather the hearts of rich men to milk all the money she could from them. at first troy hated her. she was conniving and scheming. much too wayward for his good brother, besides tobias already had a cute girlfriend. he wanted to chase Rebekah away in fear that she would break up the happy couple.

that was until one night he just happened to find her in the back alley of a bar he sometimes visited. there she was, squat down holding a piece of chicken and sharing it with a small stray cat. she looked rather lonely in her wrinkled school uniform among the empty boxes and broken bottles glittering on the gravel below. Rebekah wasnt aware that she was being watched. thinking she was alone she began to cry after watching the tiny animal scarf up all the food in 2 bites. the small kitten reminded her of herself. weak and helpless without some strangers whim of kindness. with no hesitation she let the cat have the rest of the food and stood up while wiping the tears from her face. for the first time in Troy's life he realized that everyone had their own story. so why should he judge this girl who was just trying to survive? without saying a word he left her unaware of what he had seen. later on they became close and truly fell in love.

what he didn't realize was his previous actions would soon ruin his life with her. after finding out he now had a weakness besides the well guarded twin brother his enemies came in troves after Rebekah for revenge. troy tried very hard to protect her but in the end he was killed. to stop them from attacking his brothers beloved Rebekah who was pregnant with his niece, tobias let others believe he was actually the father of the child. Rebekahs reputation was widely known as a promiscuous gold digger so this wasnt too hard to believe. of course his parents were unwilling to accept Rebekah as part of the family. they gave up on troy long ago and didn't care about his soon to be daughter either. forced to wait until their death tobias was finally able to bring them in. but by then Rebekah had settled down with a new man. she might have been greedy but Rebekah had her pride. she wanted nothing to do with the family she felt cast her aside. it wasnt until after her 2nd husband left as she was dying cancer that she gave in but she made tobias promise. "never let anyone know that lily is troys" was rebekahs last words to him before she died. tobias knew she was right but still... marissa and willow was suffering because of this. if only he could tell them the truth. rolling onto his side he laid in bed staring at his wife's peaceful sleeping face. in that moment all he wished was for his family to be happy.
