Rebirth: The Shadow Of Greed

Chapter 113 - Me First

Basil's team entered the door the only thing they found was an empty throne.

"What the heck! Where is the general!"

Basil shouted. Let's go! I'm sure we'll find the general in the middle castle! The group following Basil streamed out of the castle as they began to make their way to the middle castle.

Back at the vanguard team, the battles began to slow down, the waves suddenly stopped all of a sudden and most of the members there were confused.

"Vero! What do we do? Did they take out the generals already? Why is it so empty?"

"I have no idea as well, maybe this is the calm before the storm, let's keep our wits and not ease up."

Vero told the rest.

"Sir, I'm not getting a response from the system, it seems that it is getting overridden."

"What! What's going on? 2 of the 3 generals have disappeared!"

"I have no idea at all, it seems like there is an issue with the AI."

"If there is an issue with the AI then shut it off. It will hurt us for a retake of the exams but minor disruptions are fine. Under my authority, shut it off!"

The chief examiner got even more agitated, the veins at his temples bulged out as he started to sweat.

"Sir! I've tried, but it's not responding."

"Remove the spirit stone! I'll go remove the spirit stone! "

The chief examiner rushed to the server as he found the spirit stone, reaching out to the spirit stone he extended his arm to reach it.

"Almost got it!"

As he touched the spirit stone he felt his back go wet.

He turned his head, to see the examiner with a dagger smiling at him while blood dripped from it. It was only now, he had felt the pain that was permeating through his body.

"Damn it! I should have known." The chief examiner ignored the pain as he struggled to reach for the spirit stone. As he tried to fumble the spirit stone out of place the dagger reached his throat as he bled out."

"This is the will of Lord Pestilence, the plan must not be disrupted."

The examiner smiled cruelly as black spots appeared all over his face and arms. His eyes were lifeless as he stared on to the abyss.

In the arena, Soli's group approached the middle castle with caution, with what Z had mentioned fresh in their mind, they were careful in their approach.

On the opposite side, Basil's group stepped forward step by step with confidence as they walked towards the middle castle.

"Oh? So quick? Was the left Castle empty?"

Falcor looked at Soli as he snidely remarked.

"As a matter of fact, it was, was it the same for the other side as well?"

Soli replied, however, her vision was aimed towards Basil instead of Falcor. She didn't even acknowledge Falcor's existence which made him flush red with anger.

"The other castle had soldiers but without a general. We killed our way in to find that out."

Basil answered while walking towards the door.

"Something's not right, the timing is too accurate, almost coincidental."

Soli warned, she had an unease after Z mentioned the entire scenario and she has been on edge ever since.

"You worry too much dear cousin! I understand if you feel like you are inadequate, but I believe in Lord Basil, he will lead all of us to victory, isn't that right Lord Basil."

Falcor started to butter Basil up again, he was taking every opportunity he had to do so.

"That's right if you're worried you can wait outside, but the scores won't be shared with you, so if you want it, you'll have to do something about it."

Basil kicked down the door as he stormed in, sure enough, a bulk of the soldiers were waiting and ready for battle. He stepped forward launching a flaming fist as he blew the soldiers further back. At his side, his teammates transformed their bodies as they charged forward ripping the soldiers apart.

Falcor was shooting icicles at the soldiers damaging them. Before his henchmen stepped forward to finish them off with weapons.

"This is the way to battle! There isn't any time to waste!"

Falcor laughed with his lackeys as he started to pick up the pace to kill more enemies.

Soli shook her head as she decided to join the battle. Within 5 meters of her radius, any soldiers who stepped in turned into ice ranged attacks launched at her was blocked by Odrunn who had grasped the usage of the gauntlets. Although Z was against the usage of his manifest in this situation, he still made a move using his manifest to defend and kill the soldiers.

The soldiers came in all shapes and size some multi sizing, some with super strength some with flames and some with ice.

"Even if they can mimic our manifests, I guess that is the extent of their abilities huh? Look at them! The most they can do is stall us. We'll just farm for points here before going in to kill them."

Falcor laughed as he continued to kill the soldiers. He wasn't the only one with the thought, the longer they could stay here the longer they had to gain points, none of the students there wanted to head in.

"Stalling for time…"

A glass shattered in Z's mind, he got it, he understood what was happening.

"We have to go in now! The generals are stalling for time! They are planning something!"

Z shouted as he tried to get the attention of everyone. He rushed full speed to the door wanting to kick it in and entering.

"F.u.c.k off peasant! You don't have the chance to go in first."

Falcor pushed him aside as he opened the door ahead of Z.
