Reborn As The Founder’s Descendant, Bringing Change

Chapter 5 - In This World, I Am Lyonel Swordhaven Pt. 4

"Young Lyonel, you are still young but this agenda and initiative you proposed for our house's development is something I did not think of when I was young! If only you were there earlier, things might be different today."

"Calm down William, I still have things to learn especially from my seniors. I am still young and you have experience like everyone else here.."

"O-okay. All for the Swordhaven and Freival!"

Having departed from the so-called meeting that ended somewhat above average with grinning Grandfather Siegfried trailing behind, I called Emily and told her it's time to start the training and our follow up mock duel disguised as a training.

Emily agreed with a smile and grabbed my hand that somehow earned a reaction of Grandfather looking at us in wonder then chuckled for reasons I can't tell. I looked surprised when she took my hand but I get used to it when I saw her looking at me with that cute expression of hers.

Grandfather Sieg, he was fine when I checked him due to his stifled chuckling. I thought he was the one who get to train me with additional training instead of Granduncle Cain, but whatevs. He's that..well being a badass old man having grandparent moments because of me and Emily's presence.

I even asked him about it, the training that might help my control. He told me there was and the way he described it to me looked similar from my time as Frederick Augustus except slightly improved over the years. But still, I believe no one must not forget the original foundations because it's counted as knowledge. The example of that being a lost knowledge would be archery because of the introduction of guns in my former world which over the years caused rise of modern debates of real historical archery and the way one of the best archers have in their shooting style as archery during their respective times. Some people claimed it should be on that way with the other party saying it's not while those who were ignorant and part of archery community remained close-minded. The person I know of in my past life, do archery and he's open-minded and know his stuff respectively. If not for the rise of true VRMMO, maybe that issue in archery would not have quieted down I think.

"How astounding, Grandfather Sieg." I replied, impressed. "Perhaps, we all should be writing that down for future use, yes?"

"Of course except being well-guarded knowledge that only a couple of few know." Grandfather agreed with a smile while we talked of controlled information and consequences of it. I really intended to introduce some methods I impart in the future if there'll be some good news and a trail of corrupt donkeys who killed my birth parents in this world. A controlled and well-kept information was what I intended to do while doing upgrades ahead of it.

My escort, Gawayne, as usual, remained vigilant especially being with his association of the org, the Order's grandmaster, my adoptive grandfather. He's supposed to have discipline or so because of Grandmaster being there in my company.

When I asked him about his relations with my grandfather, my view of him slightly changed. He told me he's one of the orphans who lost his parents at that time who got personally trained by my grandfather and saw him as somewhat a savior and grandfather. I am not sure of calling him a big brother when he cheerfully asked me that alongside the other older orphans who got same case as him. But for the sake of this setting including what those lads from Order would think of me, their grandmaster's son calling Gawayne "onii-san", I told him with a promise to keep in mind of the setting especially when there's foreigners and unfamiliar/familiar people who are not in my personal circles.

"Under the oath of my blade and honor as knight, I will not fail you." gallantly said Gawayne that earned a peal of boisterous laughter from Grandfather Siegfried which I let out a sigh from his acceptable answer as I let out a forced smile at his answer.

"I think there's no need to stake your honor as a knight with that matter because of its simplicity... I am with confidence that I can defend myself in the future." I said it out loud with a sweatdrop while trying not to facepalm. In this world, staking one's honor as a knight was a serious matter because of reputation and dignity as a knight similar to staking your account and life with set conditions that can destroy one's dignity and life as a whole because of failure. The near example of that case would be a fictional story I read about a guild leader staking his life in an arena back when I was 15 years old in my past life as JJ Alcantara.

"...okay. But still, I want to do my best Sir Lyonel for your wishes, not as my teacher's grandson but being you, Sir Lyonel."

'At least he is not one of those personality-based types. I don't really mind if it's a beautiful talented non-corrupted girls saying it to me but it'll take bits of work to indoctrinate my ideals and philosophy to them.' I happily thought at him not being unwanted personality-based people who brought my past life's country down in pre-FSEA Era and being amused at my small joke of not corrupted cute girls going after me because of personality and fame before I let off my reply to him, "Alright. If you think of it that way, not by my blood connection, Gawayne, as a knight and person, you are to improve and be better than your previous self, 'kay? My eyes are on myself and the Swordhaven Territory's future. I need all the help I can get to achieve my goals."

Gawayne nodded with a small neutral smile.

I, then looked at Emily who seemed to be thinking what I said to Gawayne. Her thinking face still looked cute to me. I don't know what she's thinking but I thought it's about what Granduncle Siegfried said something to her the other day before that led to this because of my actions including before the meeting. But again I might be wrong. "Emily, I am counting on you in our age bracket. You are foremost my precious childhood friend and first friend in this world. Like what I promised earlier, I'll be imparting you knowledge and use it responsibly so that we got each other's back. I don't know what you are thinking but I really meant it."

Giving her a sudden headpat, she snapped out of from what's she thinking as she finally processed what I said, only for it with an additional cute blush and nod of affirmation.

Grandfather Siegfried chuckled a bit as he asked me a question, "Lyon, I take it you heard what we said the other day?"

"Nothing I recall of. " I replied, looking at Emily and Grandfather Siegfried while my guard Gawayne do his thing of what's expected of him and his colleagues. "Why? Is there something I have to know?"

"Well.." Grandfather was about to say something but when he saw Emily and I looked at her first before him, he halted with a knowing grin. "It's nothing for now."

"If that is the case.." I switched my direction to Emily and commented, "I won't mind it unless it's a concern that required my presence even if it's a small matter that can be seen with utmost importance."

"You hear that, Emily?" said Grandfather to her. "You have to work your way now and then starting today."

'Goodness me, not even I can figure something out at all. I am not that slow, am I?' Seeing Grandfather's letting out a smile and what appeared to be a nod of understanding with Emily herself for some reason blushing hard, I gave up my pursuit.

"Lyonel, I never expect Grandfather to give you a pair of long swords."

"That is something...well part of my birth heritage, Emily. "

"I understand it all...don't worry I still love you as family and a big sister."

"Emily..."

Her attire like mine and others from Swordhaven really was a Westernized Japanese clothing covered with c.h.e.s.t armor that least saved some sort of c.h.e.s.t protection made up of lighter and strong materials that can give metal a money for its quality. My expectation of Freival since day 1 being that Western version of the Land of Rising perhaps was an oopsie because of my 'filthy' weeb side and coming from Swordhaven.

My current clothing was the same as almost the same as her's except fitted for males painted in black as night. The clothing itself was not restrictive in movements but 'powered' by magical enhancements like a typical magic item found in every game and other works. The clothing and armor from the Swordhaven as a whole, I say it's a Westernized Japan with militarism elements because of what I saw in my own very eyes except that my house was very noble and known for treating its subordinates and servants like a family.

"A pair of long swords for you Lyonel," instructed Grandfather to me, tossing the practice swords to me which I caught on without effort. " The very important thing you need to know is that you are to work on your speed, stamina, control and improving everything based on previous encounters."

"I see," I commented and asked a question while giving a test swirl and swing with the current practice weapons I wield using both my hands." But is there things I have to know of before me and Emily..you know to start off the official practice?"

I looked at Emily who got her own practice weapon - a single piece of long sword. She smiled at me when I looked her. How cute.

"We will get to that." replied Grandfather, " Are you aware of your elemental affinities, Lyonel?"

"It's wind, lightning and null..as far as I know. I felt bad for not telling it earlier to be honest." I said, recalling the day I sneaked back to check the tester found in one of the Order's training bases nearby the Swordhaven Territory. The 'tester' itself was an obelisk that indicated what the person has in them after pouring their mana on it. For me, it showed wind, lightning and null.

"It's fine..at least, we won't have to go to one of the bases." cooled off Grandfather with a grin as he chuckled with a knowing smile. "You are the same Emily's literally."

"G-grandfather, please!" cried Emily with a blushing face which I find once more, cute and adorable as I joined smiling at her cute reaction. This felt so wrong but I want to touch her elf ears and enjoy it!

"Ehem, Grandfather, why do I have to use this? This weapon reminded me of a thing from my past life's motherland." I eyed at my practice blades I wield in my left and right hands. The appearance of it truly reminded me of a modified double-edged kampilan. Kampilan was originally basically a single-edged longsword originated from my former life's country before the FSEA era used by various ethnic groups specifically for warfare. The feeling of it when I looked at the sword's beauty, sort of 'ruined' my expectation of this country being somewhat a Westernized Japanese whatevs country due to armor and weapons but again the time I had as Frederick Augustus William Freival was not enough to cover what is what to the present current countries I haven't seen in my eyes including the 'newer' Freival herself. I would have taken a practice gladius though if not for my Swede-Moro warrior heritage part in my soul speak its mind about whooping a Ferdinand Magellan or any guy with it in this world. Still my main weapon would and must be Abigail and Durendal due to familial reasons and being familiar with any swords as the Sword Saint.

"No, reason. It still counted as longsword which you have get use to it." confidently replied Grandfather with a grin.

"Cheeky old man." Smiling, I readied myself as I positioned my usual personal stance I used from my time as the Sword Saint. I thought Grandfather recognized my swordplay when he stared at me in surprise but I assumed that what he's thinking will and surely be of surprise. " I am ready to spar. The Swordhaven values, however, I will learn more about them later."

"Alright. I am sure our house's value and traditions will be for a later time. " replied Grandfather as he looked at Emily who readied herself already as he initiated the spar and went sidelines for safe distance, "You may now...BEGIN!"

"Emily, I hope you that the null spells I used earlier is enough for your recovery." Being the first to decide for the first strike, I dashed towards her with my natural speed. My training blades..I recalled how much I killed players in-game and fellow men with my swordsmanship before.

The session itself was all mana-free from the start because that's what we agreed on earlier yet. No problem in the training grounds so far.

"It's enough, Lyonel. But allow me to catch up sometimes because I want to exchange notes with you! " Emily, who, became calm, when she saw me charging at her, that turned into a unremained feeling of calmness, caught my first attempt of strike with her block, making our blades grind each other.

The exchange of blows continued with me 'playing around', 'being half serious' and so on.

I did not bother how many times I swung blades at her and Emily doing those same actions I did in those times, minutes or hours. It just that I want to help Emily too by making self holding back a bit. For myself, it's all for working on my stamina and a sort of testing ground for us in the name of taking notes and making improvements. I won't let Emily behind since she's my sort of big sister figure as Lyonel Swordhaven. But overall, it's my bias of being fond of those types speaking for itself.

"Lyon..I cannot believe you are able to catch up. You must have improved last time."

"Indeed, I was." I replied, watching her recover from our early first 'strikes''. I eyed Grandfather Siegfried who seemed to have understood my game. Not that I care, he's welcome for me taking down my methods.

'She's not that bad..I can see her potential and growth.' Taking note of her swordsmanship instantly, I understood and grasped the path of her in it. There's a lot of paths I could guide to her. She could be my duplicate counterpart if I teach her my moves and impart my knowledge and strategems which might leave a room for misgivings in the future but I prefer not having my knowledge and ideals be used by the crooks. I might and would do as well take action with that idea in-sync in the name of childhood friend route because it's a win-win and not having an evil-hearted imbeciles getting away with it. It's not like those 'pathetic losers' from my former life as JJ think I should get the sad end of it and them being losers who enjoy watching amused at the person's misery. Unfortunately for them, I can lay out many plans and measures in those situations even here because I have a reputation and nickname to hold.

Smiling at those thoughts as I started to craft a route for the future at the same time, I pushed more effort to make the 'balance' favorable to my side a bit that made those blades shifted to favorable to my side when I struck again suddenly which she caught on as I poured small dosage of teasing to her, "From here, I understand your swordplay 'big sister' as a whole but I smell a room for refining. Nothing beats having another life to remember~."

"L-lyon, what do you mean by that?" asked Emily as she took note of my teasing while Grandfather who were watching us, far away a bit, I thought he muttered something but whatever because I am busy right now. She's feeling it alright.

'Time to test new move.' Backing off which in turn broke the almost 'stalemate', I playfully grinned at her, forming my blades an 'X'. "That is for you to find out, 'big sis'.'"

"You haven't - huh?" before she could finish her question, I vanished right in front of her, leaving my weapons to the ground.

How I vanished? It's a trick I learned from reading a manga as JJ before. With memories from Frederick the Sword Saint, the theory of it was somewhat 'legit'. The way it works was pouring mana over my legs and I do the thing with it as long I have trained my control. But because of my first time using it combined with lone factor, the instant 'rank up' to [Ascended] from high human that made my mana control out of whack, I almost miscalculated the intended distance when I first used it today in this today's spar.

The new unnamed move added to my 'skillset' was not a violation of spar's rule because I did not use 'enhancements' or anything that powered up my weapon. I felt bad for using it against Emily honestly.

Looking around, Emily called me out, I was hiding in the tree branch near one of tallest trees nearly behind her, observing her like what would every hunter do to their prey. "Lyon, please come back here. We need each other to improve ourselves as an individual and as a knight. We promised each other with that since the day we first met."

"Oh, you did Emily? How did it go?" asked an amused grinning Grandfather Siegfried when he heard it. That old man, he never changed unless it's really serious and battlefield.

"G-g-g-grandfather please! T-that's a secret!" slammed a blushing Emily Swordhaven.

'I think I am gonna enjoy her being cute because of teasing.. oh Goodness me, I am glad I conquered my fear of heights or else I would have fainted.' While continuously observing her and Grandfather down below and realizing the height down below, I tried not to cringe at my embarassing memories of being afraid of heights. This position and height of the tree I stand on, it felt a bit normal for a guy like me who used to be afraid of heights.

I suddenly almost chuckled when I saw Emily's elf ears (which I wanted to touch) blowing out steam. Whatever the thing I didn't hear was, it looked funny and comedic.

"Sorry, I can't help but know my grandchildren's secret. I won't mind it since our Swordhaven House is okay with-" before Grandfather can finish it, big sis Emily herself who was blushing as evidenced by her elf ears, went behind Grandfather's back with a speed that'll make my Ghost Walk an equal(?), hit him hard with her weapon's pummel enough to paralyze Grandfather.

That trick done by Emily, I had no idea if it's realistic or not. Now that I think of it, should I be testing if it's possible to do that due to not sensing a single mana from it? Still I want to tease her or something first -on second thought I should..hehehe.

Letting out a sly grin at the idea, I 'ambushed' Emily behind which in turn produced interesting results as she started to giggle and laugh.

"Hahahahaha stop it Lyonel! It's no fair!"

'It's really nice to have a playmate.' I happily thought, tickling Emily by her sides I figured with my first attempt while joining in laughing with her. "Hehehe, I got you 'big sis'~ True, it's not fair but you being cute earlier just makes me want to tease you more~ Your 'win' t-o-d-a-y~"

"HYAhahahaha- n-n-n-no stop tickling me. "

"Hehe~ I will stop..if I want to. I, however, will be teaching you that move of mine I accidentally created-" Pausing slightly to think of the name of the move, I tried to recall any sound it made when I used it the first place. I'm with confidence with there's no sound. So the name of that would be.. "[Ghost Walk], later whenever possible. "

"WHA-"

Resuming my ticklish 'assault' on my childhood friend, Emily Swordhaven, a 'ring tone' was formed in moments faster that'll make the speed of light a joke.

"Fufufu big sis here will spoil you now~"

'This is bad...' By a strange miracle, she suddenly broke free from my assault.

Looking at my 'former prisoner', Emily, who now faces me with a smile instead of an infamous Swordhaven grin known by three Swordhaven folks I personally know, suddenly pinned me to the ground, leaving myself no room for escape.

This 'mock battle'...I lost it because of my carelessness. Not that I mind because there's no involvement threatening objects such as usage of sharpened weapons and projectiles. The weapons we used were designed for training and spar after all because of myself sneaking out to observe.

Closing my eyes in resignation of my fate as I embraced the taste of defeat before looking at Grandfather's direction where he was not there anymore, seconds later, I felt a soft warm sensation.

Opening my eyes, Emily's face appeared to be much redder as her elf ears let out steam air.

"L-lyonel, I will be telling our house's traditions later alongside what I am about to tell you. M-my gesture, however, I-I-I hope you understand it."

"Emily.." Gently touching her right face with my left hand which she hold it, I saw how much she gathered her courage for herself. I've known her for like 4 years. There's no way I didn't anticipate this because we were supposed to be playing and training around at this age without getting interested in romance. Is this an experience of childhood romance? T-the Sword Saint part in me who was renown as the strategist and one of the sharpest minds was confused as this. I haven't experienced it personally on both my past lives. Maybe what her and Grandfather talked the other day? Her reactions everytime Grandfather Sieg speak of it which I find it cute and amusing, maybe it ha - oh.

'G-g-grandfather Gregorio once said a small step makes a difference for solid foundation combined with a seizure of opportunity. So that would mean I have to take care of her, Emily, starting today?' Taking a small breath, I nervously smiled at her as I felt my face burning up at the realization. " That's ...really surprising for me Emily...I didn't imagine you feel this way because in my life including my past lives, I never got to experience it. Don't take it wrong, I am really to hear it from you..If that's how you feel, let's get to know each other..more than as a family. "

With the brightest smile I've ever seen, Emily hugged me. "..I am really happy, Lyonel."

'My life here in this world..I never imagine this to happen. I will make sure it'll be a pleasant and rememberable one especially for us.' Glancing up at the sun while enjoying hugging Emily, I'm with confidence to say it's noon at this time.
