Chapter 1: The one who remembers you

The anticipated pain made her grasp the quilt tightly. She was already used to it. She wanted to grasp something with her hand, but there wasn’t anything. She opened her fingers that were as thin as a chicken’s, she couldn’t help but squeeze them again.

Suddenly, someone held her hands. It was a warm hand, and she instinctively held it tightly. The grip was painful. The tighter it was, the more painful it was, the more reluctant she was to let it go.

A tear suddenly rolled out of the corner of her eyes, and her long eyelashes faintly moved, but she couldn’t open her eyes.

The door opened from the outside, and she could hear a few staggering steps. There was a faint, but extremely accustomed sigh, “Aren’t you going back?”

“Well, I’m not going back. I want to accompany her through her last few days. The doctor said she has only few days left.”

“You’re so kind.” The man walked over, “You know, it was her mother who deliberately ran into your car just to get that insurance money. Her death has nothing to do with you. Alas… it’s all caused by poverty.”

He took a look at the half-dead woman on the hospital bed, “You say, isn’t this retribution? She didn’t want her mother. She went to work like a cow for those people. That family never treated her as a human being.”

“She is really muddled. Her mother waited on her, guarded her, sold everything and even traded her life for insurance money. It was just that she didn’t want her mother, and no one from that family came to see her. Nor did they pay a penny for her medical expenses. What do think she wanted?”

“And…” The man shook the thing in his hand, “I have already got the insurance premium. You would rather carry the name of a murderer and even pay for her treatment. Why are you doing this?”

After a long silence, finally, a voice came faintly.

“This is what her mother traded with her life…”

And when he finished saying this, he didn’t know that under the quilt, that clenched hand loosened from the pain from her body.

Without spirit, without faith, and without life.

She didn’t even have her mother left…

She only had the report on her hand. She grasped on it tightly, never intending to let go…

Near a solitary grave with a stone tablet. It was raining heavily.

A black-clothed man walked over with an umbrella and placed a bunch of flowers in his hand under the tombstone. Then he traced the face on the black and white photo. In the photo, one can see that the petite woman was young and beautiful. Full of youthful bloom. But she has become a bleak tombstone.

“Finally, there is no need to suffer anymore. Your mother is by your side, she will protect you and guard you. In the next life, you will still be mother and daughter again, but you have to treat her well, okay?”

As the wind blew strongly, a bit of rain fell on his face, and he turned his face away, but there was nothing but the grave in the open space in front of him.

Only between the raindrops, he could see a name etched on the top of the cold tombstone.

Liu Liang.

“Liang Liang[1], that’s what your family called you, right? When you were young, you must have been very beautiful.”

“You must have cried just now… and that’s why it must be raining. After all, the only person in this world who cries for you has already left before you. “

A person can’t come back to life when he’s dead.

People die just like a lamp goes out.

Someone said: “In a person’s life, you have to die three times. The first time, when your heart stops and your breathing disappears, then you are biologically declared dead; the second time, when you are buried, people wear black clothes to attend your funeral, and then you are declared dead in society, and the third death is when the last person in the world who remembers you forgets you… so you really die.”

Who still remembers you, who still thinks of you, and who still remembers your name?

Only that the soul faded far away, and seemed to disappear…
