Reborn In Wizarding World

Chapter 20 - Eating and Thinking

Coming out of the fireplace, I cleaned a little bit of the soot off my clothes with a wave of my hand. It was around 3 pm and I was really hungry as I had only had breakfast in the morning and hadn't eaten since.

"Tweaky! Is there anything to eat?" I shouted towards her little room that was just beside the kitchen and she popped in a second later.

"Yes Master Rubin, I be making Bacon sandwiches and pasta, you be sitting at the table and I be getting it," she squeaked and popped out of the room.

I went towards the dining table and sat down on it. As I sat there waiting for the food to arrive I distracted myself by thinking about all that I had learned in the years that I have been reincarnated into this world.

The number of spells that I've been able to do has not increased by much, and after countless experiments I've finally reached the conclusion that you just can't do the spells that are complex in nature wandlessly.

The less complex the intent required to cast the spell, the more likely it is to be able to cast that spell wandlessly.

For example, The Lumos charm just requires you to think of bright light so it's relatively easy to perform it wandlessly but if you want to say transfigure a matchstick into a needle the complexity increases exponentially, it took me about 7 months of a continuous effort to be able to perform it.

That was the only piece of transfiguration my magical core was able to provide for because that small piece of magic took almost 500L worth of magic from me.

So the conclusion I arrived at was that it was hilariously inefficient to do complex pieces of magic without a wand. And so I stopped trying to imitate those fanfiction MCs who were able to conjure a lion wandlessly and then have it perform a circus routine.

Tweaky popped into the room while I was thinking and clicked her fingers and the plate in front of me was instantly filled with delicious-looking pasta and sandwiches. My mouth started watering from all the aroma of the food.

"Thank You Tweaky, you're an angel," I told her with a huge smile and started digging into the food. Tweaky blushed and went out of the room with a small smile.

As I was enjoying the food, my mind once again went back to the sore spot that had haunted me for the last year or so.

My magic had stopped increasing after it reached about 1000L when I was about 9 years old and no matter how much I try to increase it, nothing worked, it felt like I had reached a wall and I need some kind of breakthrough for it to start improving again.

And after that all I've been able to do was make my magic more compact by performing different kinds of exercises for example one of them is that I take an object with say like 40kg of weight and levitate it at the exact same speed to exact same height but with each time trying to reduce the consumption of my energy.

On the theory side of things, I've learned many different kinds of ancient runes with the help of my mom. Although all I've been able to do was to memorize different kinds of runes and their respective meanings. My mom insisted that it will be all I will ever need to do to establish a good foundation before I go to Hogwarts.

You can't learn the practical side of ancient runes just by reading and it can only ever be taught in person but she didn't teach me the practical aspect of the Ancient Runes because every person has a different way of teaching it. And the Hogwarts teacher was way better than her and she didn't want me to create any bad habits by teaching me half-heartedly.

On the other side while I was way more excited to learn healing magic it turned out to be not as fun as I had expected. As it turns out you can't just learn healing magic by memorizing a few spells and waving your wand. You actually need to study all about the human anatomy and the various reactions involved in the process of healing.

When I first asked my father to teach me healing magic, he didn't deny me or tell me that it was way too early for me or it was way too complicated a subject for a child. He just gave me this annoying smirk and put a huge book in front of me and told me that if I can understand it, he would give me the next volume.

I tried really really hard to read it but it was just so tedious and full of boring information. After a week of fruitlessly trying and failing to comprehend it, I gave up. My father didn't ask about it nor did I bug him again about learning healing magic. But occasionally there would be this smirk on his face that would really annoy me that just seems to say "You thought healing magic was so easy... huh ... where did your genius go now".

I actually blame all the fanfiction I've read, because in those the MCs would just go to the bookstore and buy all the books from 1-7 years and then lock themselves in a room for a week and then come out and say "Et voila magic is so easy, I've read all the books and now I can do NEWT level magic HAHAHA". .

It would be like a teenager buying all the books related to surgery available off the internet and then locking himself in a room for a week. Then after he comes out he goes to a hospital to immediately start performing surgery because you see he had already read all the books so now he was a surgeon.

After ranting for some time I took a sigh filled with content, I was satisfied spiritually from ranting and physically from the good food. Patting my stomach I stood up and went to my room to pick up my broom.. Running back downstairs I went straight into floo and after chucking a pinch of powder I went straight into it while shouting for longbottoms place.
