Redeeming The Sins Of Xu Rouguang [BL]

Chapter 55 - Kind and Loving Husband

The moment Lai Mingjie mentioned intercepting similar tragedies, Xu Rouguang had already sent out his senses to locate possible trouble. Aside from his vision, he could also detect spikes in heart rate and the terrified breathing of the targets. He had already located this place from where they were standing while speaking with Lai Mingjie.

He only needed to know why Lai Mingjie wanted him to find these things. If he said something about protecting the peace of the city, the fool of a general would not sleep in clearing the city of its harmful elements. It was never the immortals' business to involve themselves if this was a human against human scenario, but if Lai Mingjie told Xu Rouguang otherwise, the latter would act nonetheless.

However, with the way Lai Mingjie put it, these events seemed to be involving demons. Like what Brother Blue had feared before, a simple mention of the demons rebelling would mean that Emodao would be sent to the Council of Heaven's line of sight. Xu Rouguang felt an explosion of fury inside of him just by thinking about it.

It resulted in him taking Lai Mingjie as fast as he could just for them to gain answers. Alas, the man on the couch had called out Emodao's name. This made Xu Rouguang's heart sink. The current murders were done by the demonkind, and now, the immortals would have to act upon it. They were putting the lives of the humans at risk once again.

"Emodao..." the man on the couch unveiled his condition to the three. His eyes reflected pain as he heard his wife scream in terror once more. His body had turned back into his soul's original form. Right before their eyes, his human meat was being torn apart by weird bones surging from inside his body. It was slowly reshaping the man's silhouette.

"Help me..."

Lai Mingjie and Xu Rouguang's eyes widened as they heard him morphed voice call out for mercy. Help him? They didn't even know what happened to him yet. Nonetheless, Lai Mingjie came closer and held onto the man, but he pulled his hand back in pain. The man's body was burning like it was being smelted in fire.

Xu Rouguang stepped in and held out his hand, isolating the heat and trying his best to stop the bones from growing. However, the man only growled in pain as the bones started bending at impossible angles due to Xu Rouguang's caging.

"General Xu, please... kill me now..." The man cried as he started scratching his c.h.e.s.t, creating a gap between two ribs. His beating heart showed, and it was already discolored purple... the same shade as the flower they saw in the morgue. The man then fell to the floor and started making inhuman noises, shrieking and growling as he was losing all his human qualities.

"I... don't want to... hurt Yi'er..." He lifted his head just to get a glimpse of his wife that was in tears. Instead of the terror she felt earlier, all he could see now was her pain. He even watched her crawl on the floor, hoping to hold him one last time.

However, Lai Mingjie had to reach down and stop her. Xu Rouguang slowly balled his hand to a fist. He was only using his essence to create a barrier and slowly shrinking it to kill the morphing demon before them. Breaking the bones and causing some to bend and pierce him in place had deemed to be fatal to the morphing demon. He only kept his eyes at his wife that was desperately reaching out to him. Soon, those clear eyes had gone blurred.

The wife made one last wail as she realized her husband was dead. Lai Mingjie could only let her go while watching Xu Rouguang look around the house. If they were lucky, they would find the culprit. Sobbing that came from the wife wasn't something they couldn't stand. Both of their eyes landed on the despairing woman who was now cradling her dead other half, even though he had turned into something unrecognizable anymore.

...

The scent of freshly brewed tea drifted into the night. It was almost midnight, but Yi'er still had no idea how to deal with what happened. All she knew was that she had a loving and kind husband one hour earlier, and now, he was dead and was deformed. She kept on glancing at the two men who entered their property to save her, but she hadn't asked them important questions. She had yet to process the events that happened.

For now, she could only tell them what she knew as they sat in the lounge; the body was wrapped in linen and was placed under the dining table. Her husband was a frequent drinker in this bar in the city, but he started not going there one night. Then, he went out with friends outside of work a week ago. After that, he started going home very late. Before she knew it, they were fighting; and the man—who had never raised his hand against her—had thrown her across the lounge. He then sat on the couch... leading to what they had witnessed.

Lai Mingjie and Xu Rouguang had more insights than the woman, but neither of them spoke. The director soon got off of his seat and took out his phone. "I'm sorry, Miss Yi'er, but you might have to just legally list your husband as missing. I'll deal with the body." He then fiddled with his phone and made a call away from them.

Yi'er only watched Lai Mingjie's back before turning to Xu Rouguang. "...Thank you for taking him out of misery. I don't know what I'm going to do if I had to see my husband turn into a monster and... and not recognize me anymore." She lowered her head, tears inevitable dripping into her teacup. "Will our... will our baby be like that, too?"

"Miss Yi'er, no need to worry. Your baby is safe as long as you are." Xu Rouguang smiled at the woman, releasing some kind of essence that eased down the woman. "Your husband should be remembered as the perfect husband that he was. This event... tonight... something had turned your husband into a monster. We assure you that we will find whoever did this and punish them for ruining lives."

"Y-Yes..." Miss Yi'er wanted to feel at ease, but with that murderous glint on Xu Rouguang's eyes, she couldn't help but be terrified. Her hands trembled as if she wanted to seek her husband's reassuring hold. She then took a deep breath and wiped her tears. "Mister... ah, General Xu, is my husband going to be buried? I wish to bring flowers to him sometimes."

Xu Rouguang felt a little uneasy being called General Xu by a normal human. Moreover, he couldn't give an answer to the widow. It was a good thing that Lai Mingjie was already finished with his phone call. He walked over and answered for the other. "Miss Yi'er, of course, he's going to be buried. Could you leave your contact details with him? I'll give you a call when the grave is ready to be visited. Someone will come here to pick him up in a bit."

The director left first before Xu Rouguang received the paper with her details. He couldn't help but pity her as he reached out and held her head. His essence traveled around her body to heal her bruises. She lifted her face and looked at her with her round eyes glistening in confusion yet in gratefulness.

"Please take care of your son, Miss Yi'er." Xu Rouguang smiled at her, like a proper immortal being promising better days to come.
