REDEMPTION: The Devil's Daughter

Chapter 2 - A boring and hard life

[Chapter 1]

{1700 hrs.}

"See you later Old Man. I'm off to work"

"You'll exhaust yourself with all these multiple jobs you have Videl. You just need to focus on school for now. You're still so young and have a whole life ahead of you to be working for so many hours so many times a day. And I'm not an old man. p(#ὸ‸ό)q"

"The old man looks so cute when he's gonna cry (^3^)//, hehe. Mr. Renee, you're the nicest man I know but I'm not willing to take undue advantage of you. Well, traffic jams may trap me if I'm late. Later… (^_^)/~~]"

"You…silly brat", [She works a bit too hard for a 17-year-old…][1] *sigh*[2]

Mr. Renee sighed in helplessness. This 'roommate' of his had moved into the apartment with her parents nearly 6 years ago. But when she was 15, she lost both parents in what was doc.u.mented as a suicide. The case was closed without investigation which made the whole thing suspicious.

The cops didn't even bother to find her a home and left her to fend for herself which only increased his confusion.

Such a pitiful child she was. He couldn't just let her wander around on her own so he let her stay with him for the past 3 years. Barely a week after losing her parents and she was already running around looking for a job saying she couldn't depend on him forever after she quit school.

She was a very strong girl. Independent, beautiful and very dedicated in everything she did. She didn't deserve such a life

"Hey Videl, good to see you again. You're just in time, just a minute later and I would've disappeared already"

"Your shift doesn't end until 6 pm June. It's only half-past 5. I'm 30 minutes early"

"HUH! So lo~ng [3]. How 'bout you help a friend out", June pleaded with Videl with a cute face on, she looked no older than 18 with flawless skin, a curvaceous body and beautiful blue eyes with silky black hair.

Videl had known her for nearly a year and a half now as they both worked as waitresses in a small diner/bar, working 5 hours a day every day so they were quite close.

*Uuugh* "…Fine. But just this once", facing this cute face, how could she say no. She was used to her antics anyways. This wasn't the first and definitely won't be the last.

"Hehe. You're the best Videl. Promise to make it up to you. Oh, Videl it's been ages since we last hung out. Tomorrow's Saturday, how 'bout we go have some fun. Girl's day out"

"I'm not too sure June I…"

"Oh come on Videl, just one day. How bad can that be? So uptight about everything"

As far as she was concerned, Videl rarely had fun. She was always so time conscious and extremely conservative. It was like interacting with an old fogey. No fun!

June unconsciously pouted with her arms crossed. She looked even more beautiful with that angry puppy face on. Too bad only Videl could see it. (seriously too bad (TT^TT))[99]

*Uuugh* "…You just have to have it your way don't you", Videl g.r.o.a.n.e.d.

"Down to the letter", with a snap of a finger, wore a toothy grin like she wasn't even disappointed a second ago.

"I call you after work then we can talk now shoo. I have work to do"

"That's a promise. I'll hold you to it"

"I didn't make any promises…and she's already gone… *sigh*…what a pain. Time to start work"

{2100 hrs.}

"Thanks for your patronage, come again soon". After 3 hours and 30 minutes of waiting, the easiest part of the job was done. As this was a dinner and a bar, the bar was an attachment to the diner and opened at 9 pm. So, this was technically her last job for the day.

"Videl hurry it up and close the diner, the customers are pouring in like crazy today. It's like a flood in here", a slightly disgruntled voice of a male came through the opposite side of the wall.

[The boss is probably pissed again]

"Coming boss. Just cleaning up quick. Will be there in a minute."

"Hurry u… Oi! Oi! Buddy! You there drop that chair, you gonna pay for that..."

Videl hurriedly wiped down the table and turn the chairs. Her boss was a very moody person and he could fire her on a whim. But out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a woman in a furry coat.

It wasn't strange for the woman to be wearing a fur coat during this chilly autumn wind but from what she could see, she had a blackish gooey substance all over her like black blood or something of that sort. She looked worn-out and her eyes were droopy like a very tired person. Not a nice look for a beautiful lady.

"Hey miss, are you o… huh?!". As a normal human being she couldn't ignore someone in need so it was normal that she wouldn't ignore her, but by the time she got outside the lady had already disappeared.

"Oi! Videl, what are you doing over there staring at God knows what?! Get the f.u.c.k in here. It's a madhouse". Her boss came out nearly screaming his head off when he saw her staring into oblivion like a lost cause or a homesick puppy.

"Coming boss". Videl pushed the issue to the back of her head when she saw the muscular build of her boss throwing a 'manly' tantrum, she ran over to the bar to start her second shift to end the day.

[Another 2 hours of boorish fights and drunk men to go]

-----------------

{2300 hrs.}

Videl headed home straight from work to a 5-story standard structured building, average room sizes with each floor having 4 rooms each. She lived on the first floor (second floor) with Mr. Renee, the building owner.

"Another day, another job done. What a day. Old man, I'm home…", working for a whole 16 hours today, the only comfort she had was coming home to a warm bed and a warm hug. But this evening was strange. Mr. Renee never stayed out past 10 pm, but it's already 11 pm.

"Old man, are you home…?"

"…Mr. Renee..."

*Kkkrrrrriiiiing*

Suddenly, the sharp sound of shattering glass in the kitchen broke through the eerie silence of the night. It was too silent this evening, far more silent than usual. Videl noticed this oddity from 3 blocks away but she didn't pay much attention to it, but now it was creeping up her spine.

"...Mr. Renee… you in there?". No matter how many times Videl called out, there was no response whatsoever. But the noises from the kitchen didn't die down. From the occasional dropping pans to shattering glass.

*ssswwoooosshhhh*

The wind blew hard from the dimly lit kitchen into Videl's face so fast it felt like something flew by. It was ice cold as the frozen north even in this cold with a bitter chill filling her body with fear.

"This isn't funny old man…where are you?", the chilling breeze came from a seemingly nowhere and was enough to send Videl into a state of high alert.

The reason being that the kitchen was embedded into the wall right down the corridor from the main door with only one window facing away from the wind.

"GET DOWN NOW!!"

*Boooommm*.

A booming feminine voice burst out from behind her along with the sound of splintering wood and pushed her down along with a loud explosive sound. A blood-red streak sped out from the kitchen and rushed straight to where Videl's head should have been a second ago.

"@&#*@[email protected]! @#&*#*#^@", the stranger that just barged in and seemingly saved her life mumbled some strange words causing a miniature silver hurricane light show that consumed the red streak splattering blood everywhere.

***************

{0300 hrs.}

[Ugh!... My head hurts... Where am I?... What is this place?]

Waking up on a makeshift bed in what seemed like an abandoned motel. From the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar figure of a fur coat covered woman only without the blackish goo. Now that she could see her clearly under the moonlight shining in through the busted rooftop.

[She's beautiful… wait that's not the point here!]

"Lady, what gives? Where am I? Where's my old man, Mr. Renee? Hey, I'm tal…", Videl was confused first and on guard the next. A stranger shows up, breaks into her house, saves her life then kidnaps her.

*Shush* "Keep it down. We aren't safe yet. Don't worry about Mr. Renee, he's safe but right now we aren't. We have to get as far away from here as possible, I couldn't get far carrying dead weight and they seem to be targeting you so I obviously couldn't leave you behind.

I'm Morgana, who are you and why are they after you?"

"I'm Vide… That's not the issue here. What's going on? Who are 'they'? Answer me when I'm talking to you, don't ignore me! That's the least you can do. HEY…"

*Shush* "Keep it down or we both die, see those things out there? They're called abyssal creatures and they hate living things. Once they get in here, we're toast so zip it", Videl looked outside through the binds and saw certain things she'd never want to dream about.

Fear works in mysterious ways as Videl shut her mouth immediately after seeing scary inhumane creatures seemingly straight out of a horror film. There were an odd number of them scouring right outside the building.

"Ok, let's get moving. They'll be back any minute and we can't stay here forever. Now are you gonna tell me your name or should I call you girl?", after an hour of waiting and hiding, the abyssal creatures disappeared into the shadows and Morgana finally spoke.

"My name's Videl. Videl Lilett", Videl spoke with a voice so tiny it sounded like a mosquito was flying around. Fortunately, Morgana had extremely s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e hearing so she heard Videl from 3 meters away.

"What's the matter, cat got your tongue? I want answers, you have questions about what those things were yes? Well, it is a very, very long story that we don't have much time to go into now. To sum it up, this world is… 'twisted'.

Stand over here. I'm going to open up a portal to a safe place but it's going to raise a commotion since I'm tearing into reality so we'll only have about a second before they're all over us again."

"Um… Okay"

"Don't worry, you'll understand everything in time… and you'll see Mr. Renee soon"

"@~#@~~%@%[email protected]*[email protected]#@[email protected]*@#[email protected]"

[Again with that strange language]

*zzzzzzbrooom*

[She wasn't kidding when she said it would be noisy]

Buzzing to life with a big boom, a black oval-shaped 'wormhole' opened up. It looked like an endless abyss of darkness.

"What are you waiting for, we don't have much time. Jump in now! Look if I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't use such a complex method. A gun can only do so much"

Seeing the hesitating Videl, Morgana got impatient. This portal she just opened up used a lot of her mana and also alerted the abyssal creatures of their location. They would be on them in a second.

[Damn it. Screw this]

Without wasting another second, Videl jumped into the portal followed closely by Morgana and the wormhole closed immediately.

Falling in the endless darkness that seemed to go on forever, with no reference to time. It felt like an eternity going on without an end and then a rapidly expanding light zoomed into view.

"How long was I in there? What year is it? I feel sick. (TT^TT)"

"Stop exaggerating things too much. It's only been 3 seconds"

[3 seconds? How's that possible. It felt like a year]

"Time and space don't work in the void so what think to be a week, month or year in there was barely a second out here. I'm surprised you're not on all fours spilling your guts on the floor and not just feel 'sick'."

[WTF (O_o)?? This bitch is gonna kill me]

"Anyways let's head up. I need to make a report and have the superiors order an investigation of the reasons why you were an enemy target."

Hearing Morgana's words pulled Videl's mind to the surroundings she hadn't paid attention to upon arriving. They seem to have landed in an open meadow and right behind them stood a tall building, their destination.
